Today I woke up and it is a lovely day of course. Today I will attend the Gladiatorial games put on by the Emperor Trajan. While I was walking through the town yesterday I noticed a sign telling all about the games and events to be. It stated there are to be beast hunts, sacrifice of criminals, and gladiatorial fights. I am especially looking forward to the beast fighting. I have finally arrived at the Amphitheatre. It seems bigger since the last time I was here. The stone walls and columns tower over my head into the sky. Today the grounds are filled with people. Everywhere I look I see spectators excited for the days events. The beasts are already fighting in the arena. The bull has blood dripping from its neck. I arrive at the gate to receive my seating assignment. Once I find out my seat I must travel to the other side of the amphitheater to find my seat. I am a poor freedman, so I have to walk up many flights of stairs to get to my seat. …show more content…
The beast hunting was next! A group of venatores successfully slayed all of the animals in record time. After the beast handler removes all of the slain animals from the arena he leads in the elephants and the lions. This is my favorite part of the games. The elephants do all sorts of tricks with their trainers such as parading across a tightrope. The elephants also are trained to do dances and kneel for their trainers. The lions are jumping through hoops and letting their trainers put their hand in its mouth. The tigers are kissing their trainers! Then the morning show is
I have lived in only one location my entire life: Edwardsville, Illinois. A peripheral suburb of St. Louis, it stands as the rare oasis of people in a desert of corn, pinned in its own personal bubble. Due to this blend of time and isolation, I developed a natural familiarity with my hometown. But, throughout my childhood, I longed to break free from the confines of the bubble and venture outward. However, this changed last summer, as I walked through Richards Brickyard, our family heirloom, that my great-grandfather, Benjamin Richards, founded over 120 years ago. I felt these childlike sentiments slip away. The bubble that had surrounded me for so long began to vanish, and the picture that it had been obscuring was slowly revealed.
"the gladiatorial troupe of Aulus Suettius Certus will fight at Pompeii on 31 May. There will be a hunt and awnings. Good luck to all neronian games."
To play a role given to us, isn’t fun once we learn of it, however, breaking away pushes us further into the journey. The Hero's Journey, a repetitive process that seems to be in the basic natural structure of every human, and despite any efforts are often replicating it ourselves. Following the journey is simple and sometimes unavoidable. The whole journey is mapped out by Christopher Vogler's The Writer's Journey. Then seen in Dracula, Bedazzled, and Noah. Also, in a easier way Howl's Moving Castle and The Game.
Joseph Campbell has a theory called The Hero’s Journey in where an individual is shown in a mundane world, called to an adventure, and goes on the adventure. In the adventure, the individual goes on the path of trials that consisting of making new friends, new mentors, new enemies, facing new challenges, gaining new skills, and new knowledge. When the individual comes back to their mundane world, they are the master of two worlds through their new experiences they've gained in the adventure. The Hero’s Journey has been repeated in literature and films through many years: two examples that have The Hero’s Journey are the films, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Joseph Campbell is a leading mythology expert and philosopher who studied all myths from around the world and found the “Hero’s Journey,” a pattern or algorithm that appears in common in myth, religious ritual, and storytelling. The Hero’s Journey has three elements, separation, initiation and return. If I think about myself, coming to Hawaii by myself was a separation from my comfortable zone where I was surrounded by my supportive family. First time when I came here, I could not say anything and became quiet because I thought people would think I was a stupid and not understand me. I was afraid of how people think about my language skills. However, I tried to speak from myself, asked people to collect my mistakes, accepted what I cannot do
Gladiator is a film about Maximus, a soldier of Rome that is forced into the gladiator arena after the emperor, Marcus Aurelius, is killed. This film follows the Hero’s Journey almost perfectly. Maximus encounters some form of all but a couple stages of the Hero’s Journey. The first phase of the Hero’s journey is departure, when the hero transitions from one world to another. The first stage in this phase is the call to adventure, which is when Maximus is asked by Marcus Aurelius to be the next emperor.
It's been an interesting year so far, and it looks like it is about to get even more interesting (more about that in a moment). What I wanted to write about in this here journal of mine is a new brand of shoe that I just purchased; they are called Nike running shoes, and I love them. They fit well, are comfortable and seem like they will last quite a while. I just had to have a pair (I think I'm the first one here at school to have them most of the other students have never even heard of them; Neanderthals, I know!). I predict they will be a big hit in the future. Okay, enough about shoes, let's move on to more serious matters, my love life! (just joking journal I have no love life right now). Oh well, I haven't written in here for the past few weeks, I guess I better talk about the events of the month. Let's see, it's October 1962 and a number of events have taken place; some here at the University of Mississippi, some in the United States and some internationally. Many of these events will likely have long-term impact on some very serious matters. Of course, I did not think any event would foreshadow James Meredith being admitted into the University, but, the first Negro being admitted into a higher education institution is an event that has only national implications, while the missile crisis in Cuba, could lead to death to thousands or even hundreds of thousands of citizens in both the United States and in Russia.
Cornered, Terrified, and feeling the despair of the situation creeping in, I was numb. Staring at Drew and trying to grasp the situation, a flash of rage overpowers my anguish as I suddenly have a flashback of Drew welcoming me into the squad with open arms. The warmth of that time would be heaven compared to this agonizing heat and sand blasting into my face. Now though, here he is in my arms, with his pulse slowly fading. I get snapped out of it by gunshots followed by hoarse screams. We were being subdued, I had to think fast. My heart was racing out of my chest, wanting to escape this hell but my eyes scanned the situation. For a split second, everything seemed to be in slow motion and I sensed danger and instinctively ducked. Something grazed my hair, I look up to see a bullet zoom on by. With nowhere to run and location found out, I had to plant my feet and fight.
I charged forward, pushing my way through the other warriors. I clenched my teeth and growled as hard as I could, trying to send fearless vibes. On the inside I am terrified- why in Helheim would I ever sign up to do this, what if I don’t make it home to my family? Or worse… what if I get captured and tortured?
Not all gladiators were brought to the arena in chains. While most early combatants were conquered peoples and slaves who had committed crimes, lured by the thrill of battle and the roar of the crowds, free men began voluntarily signing contracts with gladiator schools in the hope of winning and prize money, but not me I was poor and needed prize money to live. Female slaves were regularly condemned to the arena alongside their male counterparts, but a few citizens took up the sword of the own free will. The gladiators won massive fame among the lower classes. Our portraits graced the walls of many public places, also children played with gladiator action figures made of clay; and the most successful fighters even endorsed products. It’s been a couple of days since i’ve won the battle in the colosseum. The opponent's family is angry at me for the death of the gladiator.
I been through a lot to be of assistance for this awesome police officer in Chicago, Illinois. I went through being distributed from Cupertino, California to Chicago, to being manufactured in South Korea, being made into many different parts to be an intermediate good, and being different parts as a raw material. I’m starting with who I am ,I am a iPhone 7 Red.{I know, I know, I am fancy} I am with this officer where I go all around Chicago with my owner Officer Jentson and we go fight crime and help other around our community. I came to Officer Jentson through the FedEx mail. I originally came from different parts of the world. Before I got to Officer Jentson I was in Cupertino, California going through the distribution process, that process
My eyes pop open to the sound of my phone blaring “Turn my Swag on” by Soulja Boy. Hesitantly, I roll out of bed to see the sun- whispering through my window- promising me another warm day. Knowing that I had to be out of the door in thirty minutes, I swiftly dressed myself, chugged my morning smoothie, grabbed my bag, and ran out the door. While departing form my house to Atlanta, a journey I had done too many times too count, I recall the first time that I had made this very trip.
Sunshine. Endless amounts of fun. Water. It was about that time again, summer! My favorite season, no school and my birthday was in it. This summer was especially great, my dad was coming home he was in the military and I hadn't seen him in eight months. It was about a regular summer day with my family, when my parents thought of heading down to the beach. I was thrilled this beach was one of my favorite places to go in the summer. It was not only just a beach but, it also had a large park with big blue swings, a tennis court, and large grass area for people to have picnics. And were the beach and the park split of there were tall ginormous rocks so people could watch the boats and ocean. I was so excited and on top of that my mom told me that
Training was a predominant force in the lives of those unfortunate enough to fall into the ludus (Gladiator school).“The life as a gladiator and his training at first concentrated on getting the new gladiator to the peak of fitness” (Alchin 2). Leading a hard life, gladiators had to
The Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of the time period. It was a huge elliptical structure consisting of four stories, over 150 feet high. It measured 620 X 513 feet. The enclosed oval arena measure 287 feet long X 180 feet wide.
