The soundtrack has received critical acclaim from numerous reviews and was a best seller, selling millions of copies of the soundtrack alone to anxious listeners. The songs helped set the pace of the movie and made a good movie into an excellent movie. Some of the favorite songs from the soundtrack include “The Battle,” “Elysium,” and the favorite “Now We Are Free.” Mixing a combination of soft melodies and ballads, with battle waltzes, the soundtrack covered all ground and provides future composers the groundwork for future war epics. While Hans Zimmer gets most of the credit and praise for Gladiator’s score, he could not do it alone without Lisa Gerrard, who co-composed the score and provided the vocals. This soundtrack was so well received that it was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for best score, and won a Golden Globe for best original score. Compared to other action films, Gladiator is hard to top. As a reviewer of the soundtrack, Roko Zaper, said Gladiator, “By the very nature of the film itself, the score to Gladiator is perhaps hard to grasp for some, but in it Zimmer and Gerrard have created a score that transgresses its genre and brings the music into an unforgettable arena, an Elysium of drama if you will.” As Zaper said, Gladiator separates and goes past any other action soundtrack. The fans chant “Live! Live!” as Commodus bows to their will, and signals with a thumbs up. This helps demonstrate that Commodus was not paying attention in Caesar’s school, since the practices in the Colosseum at that time was to close the thumb into his fist to symbolize/signal life while an extended thumb meant death. Luckily, no one else in the Colosseum knows this, either. Crowe is efficient as Maximus: bearded, taciturn, brooding. His closest friend among the gladiators is played by Djimon Hounsou, who played the passionate slave in "Amistad." Since protocol requires him to speak less than Maximus, he mostly looks ferocious, effectively. Nielsen shows the film's most depth, as the sister. Phoenix is passable as Commodus, but a quirkier actor could have had more fun in the role. Old pros Harris, Jacobi and Reed are reliable; Scott does some fancy editing and a little digital work to fill the gaps left when Reed died during the production. "Gladiator" is being hailed by those with short memories as the equal of "Spartacus" and "Ben-Hur." This is more like "Spartacus Lite." Or dark. It's only necessary to think back a few months, to Julie Taymor's "Titus," for a film set in ancient Rome that's immeasurably better to look at. The visual accomplishment of "Titus" shames "Gladiator," and its story is a whole heck of a lot better than the "Gladiator"

The Gladiator epic directed by Riley Scott (2000) is based on real life events of the Roman Empire, their society, as well as the role of gladiators. Scott tried to portray the Roman culture as accurately as he could, and even went further to ensure his authenticity by hiring several historians to do so . It is supported by the findings of historians’ research. The film is historically accurate in most parts, including the role of gladiators; gladiatorial games and the aspects of Roman society such as the religions and beliefs. Some characters such as Commodus, Lucilla and Marcus were loosely based on the real life characters. However some parts of the film were exaggerated such as the battles in the arena, where gladiators fought to
Spartacus was captured and placed into slavery; where he was sold to a Gladiator training camp in Capua, Rome. He perfected the art of hand to hand combat to kill any opposing gladiator in the Arena all the while Spartacus devised a plan to escape with other gladiators. Spartacus escaped from slavery and defeated multiple waves of Roman Legions by conquering small towns and villages while gaining material and support, using his unconventional tactics thinking, and by training ordinary men in the art of warfare by his gladiators.
An excellently crafted movie filled with action, witty banter, and even romance, The Princess Bride is entertainment for the whole family. There’s sword fights for for action-inclined people and clever phrases riddled throughout the script for the intellectuals. Overall, the movie has become an American classic. The story itself is presented as a mere love story, but there is so much more to the movie than just the theme of love. Subplots are intertwined masterfully, and the ending leaves all the viewers satisfied and all the separate plots resolved. This movie has earned five stars, and should be seen by everyone at some point in their life.
Gore, drama, and action. These are what most people pay Hollywood to show them at the screens. The movie gladiator from the year 2000 is no different. The movie gladiator is a movie with contents that does not align itself historically. Rather it is tainted with a bit of historical accuracy resulting it to be more difficult to discern the accuracy of the movie as it is now ambiguous for which part of the movie is unreliable and reliable. Nevertheless, this paper will be contrast the content of the movie with the historical accuracy of some of the event, the people in the plot, and the gladiatorial combat in the movie, proving the lack of historical revelevancy.
Steven Spielberg's Jaws and Ridley Scott's Gladiator The two films being examined are the thriller Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, and the action film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott. Both directors create epic films; the films are momentous and are designed to manipulate the emotions. A thriller is intended to appeal to basic human instinct to the need of feeling fear and survival. Action movies are designed to appeal to our sense of danger: pace and experience is something we want but don't have in our everyday lives to this extent.
Roman slavery was a complex institute with great diversity, and while some aspects of it were comparable to American slavery, limiting it to these comparisons would be inaccurate. Nonetheless, Kubrick’s Spartacus chooses to emphasize the aspects that were comparable to American slavery in order to comment on the Civil Rights Movement of the time. At the same time, the gladiators represent ideals that would be associated with communism at the time this movie was released, and the positive portrayal of the communal aspects of this slave society also offers commentary on McCarthyism.

During the Roman Empire many emperors ruled in their own ways. Some were considered to be one of the “Five Good Emperors, ” and the others didn’t last because they were assassinated. They either just cared about themselves or actually cared about the citizens of Rome. The movie Gladiator portrays Roman life and the gladiatorial games. Really though, how does the movie compare to the history of the Roman Empire? I am really interested in the actual history of the gladiators and the movie is one of my favorites. That’s why I chose to do my review on it and I came to find out that the movie didn’t give me the information on the real life and times of the gladiators.

Gladiator is in the manner that the main characters became slaves/gladiators and the aspect of how “freedom” is earned. Maximus on the other hand, was a Roman General that refused to serve for the Roman new emperor, Commodus, who had murdered his father, Marcus Aurelius, in order to obtain control of the Roman Empire. The biggest difference between Gladiator and Spartacus is the manner in which their respective freedom is earned. Gladiators freedom is earned thru defeating Commodus, who sentences Maximus to be executed. The story begins after he escapes his captors and rides off to his farm. This is after he discovers that his family has been murdered by said King/Emperor Commodus. Maximus collapses from exhaustion and is then picked up by slave traders and sold to Proximo, thus leading to his voyage of becoming a Gladiator and his fight against the King. Another difference is that Spartacus is pressured into fighting the best gladiator of the Roman army, upon the conclusion of his training however, he is defeated. Afterward he becomes leader of the Army of Slaves and in an effort to gain the slaves freedom back, he leads them to battle. After being captured, Spartacus ultimately has to fight it out with a slave who is also captured and the winner will be crucified. In Gladiator, Gladiators from all over the Roman
