Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and a modern take on the story portrayed in Gnomeo and Juliet directed by Kelly Asbury can be compared to each other in many ways. As both stories progress, and the plot develops, it becomes clearer that there are multiple similarities and differences between the two. Despite their differences, both tell the timeless story of Romeo and Juliet in a way that touches everyone. The most obvious, and first difference comes in the first act of Romeo and Juliet and the first scene of Gnomeo and Juliet, when the main characters are introduced (Act 1. Scenes 1-5. Lns. 1-45). In the modern take on the story that is shown in Gnomeo and Juliet the characters are depicted as gnomes. While in the original plot the character are humans. This is clearly a huge difference between the original story and the ageless original. The clearest similarity is the feud between the two families. The classic story of Romeo and Juliet revolves around the two young lovers who struggle to stay together, because of the feud between their families. The two’s families have been in a feud for years, Romeo belongs to the Montague family and Juliet belongs to the Capulet family, and both families despise each other. Since the families hate each other so much Romeo and Juliet, or Gnomeo and Juliet, are forced to hide their love. In both the movie Gnomeo and Juliet and Romeo and Juliet the main characters are forced to hide their love due to the two families’ feud. In the movie
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both have a lot in common as well as major differences that set them apart. Although West Side Story is a direct rendition of Shakespeare's original play, many of the themes and symbols are altered to fit the modern perspective. The characters have a direct correlation to each other, yet racial issues give them a new light. Many of the events also reflect each other, yet small differences give them uniqueness. West Side Story differs from Romeo and Juliet in characterizations, plot sequences, and themes.

The movie Gnomeo and Juliet uses a plot line that is far more simple to follow. The movie’s plot line included ideals such as, love and forgiveness. In the play Romeo was a little different than in the movie. In the play, Romeo cried over Rosaline and in the movie he did not physically cry. He just played pool and smoked instead of crying. Also in the movie, Romeo and his friends were always hanging out on the beach while in the play they didn’t. Also in the play, Romeo seemed more mature and adultlike than in the movie. Also in the play you kind of get the picture that the Capulets and the Montagues have the same toughness and intelligence but in the movie the Capulets and their friends are more reserved and mature than the Montagues.
Romeo and Juliet is a very well known book that is loved by many. There numerous movies done on Romeo and Juliet like Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version and Gnomeo and Juliet. Although there are many similarities, the differences between Luhrmann’s movie and Gnomeo and Juliet compared to the play Romeo and Juliet are evident. The similarities between the movie and the play only go down to the plot and language.

“Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare has been read in schools around the world ever since schools have existed. One of the characters in the play is Friar Lawrence, who makes many influential decisions that affect the story. Friar Lawrence marrying Romeo and Juliet causes more problems than it solves. Also, Friar Lawrence’s plan for Juliet to fake her death is one of the worst decisions in the play that leads to terrible tragedy. Finally, Friar Lawrence had the chance to save Juliet from killing herself after she awoke, but he gave absolutely no effort. Shakespeare used Friar Lawrence as a major driving force in the tragedy.
The Pixar animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet, had major differences in comparison to Shakespeare’s original play, Romeo and Juliet. The most fundamental changes to the film were shown through the plot, setting, and characters, and resulted in a film that all ages could enjoy. The director, Kelly Asbury, expertly nurtured the plot in order to create an ending that would be satisfying for the young and old alike. Alongside the plot, he used the setting of two rival gardens to symbolize the original feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets. Asbury also changed many of the characters’ personalities from the play, giving the film a playful undertone. Throughout Gnomeo and Juliet, Asbury changed the plot, setting, and characters in order to create a film better-suited for children.
was the first film of Romeo and Juliet. It was produced in 1968 and it
The play Romeo and Juliet has been recreated many times and each story changes the plot and certain feelings. The setting varies a lot in each movie, for example, the original version is in the 1400s and the Dicaprio version is in the 2000s, so a big time difference with all of them. Not only are the settings different the character can be interpreted in very different ways, like how you can compare Romeo and Tony from The original play and West Side Story, you can very easily see the difference in character development and personality. All of these movies essentially handle the same story differently but you can still easily see how they all come from Romeo and Juliet.
Compaing Two Film Versioins of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, written by William Shakespeare. The
Comparing the movie to the film, it follows the same concept although there is a ton of differences. First off, they have a fake wedding inside of a dress shop in the movie and in the play the couple gets secretly married, but it’s still the real deal. A big thing that I noticed is the death situation compared to the play, in the play Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin, which leads Romeo to drink poison because he doesn’t think Juliet loves him, which causes Juliet to commit suicide using his
The scene that was most different between the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet was how the two crossed lovers first met each other. In the play Romeo and the Montague boys find out about the Capulet party through a poor peasant who could not read the invitations. While in the movie the Capulet party is announced through a newscast over T.V. I think the director changed this so the invite can go more along with the time period of the movie. This could change how the viewers see it by making the invite less secret. Over a newscast anyone who was paying attention to the T.V. could of heard the invite. Another main difference in this scene would be Romeo and Juliet first seeing each other in the bathroom across a fish tank rather than across the ballroom in the play. This could take away from the romantic side of the two first seeing each other. In the play it seems Romeo and Juliet have more privacy when they first speak to each other. In the movie the two are getting on and off an elevator just not to be seen. This could add more suspense to the scene and make the viewers see the movie from a lofty viewpoint.
One of the main differences between the play and movie is the time period. The play Romeo and Juliet takes place in the 1400’s. The movie Romeo and Juliet takes place in 1996. You can tell almost immediately that the movie takes place in a different time period. In the movie they have cars, telephones, Tv, and guns. Their clothes are also a lot different in the movie. You would not see people walking around in what they were wearing in the movie in the 1400’s. Romeo and Benvolio find out about the party on Tv in the movie. In the play they found out from a servant. I think that the director made these changes specifically because he wanted people to see how things would have been different if the play took place in a different time period.
