The Pixar animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet, had major differences in comparison to Shakespeare’s original play, Romeo and Juliet. The most fundamental changes to the film were shown through the plot, setting, and characters, and resulted in a film that all ages could enjoy. The director, Kelly Asbury, expertly nurtured the plot in order to create an ending that would be satisfying for the young and old alike. Alongside the plot, he used the setting of two rival gardens to symbolize the original feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets. Asbury also changed many of the characters’ personalities from the play, giving the film a playful undertone. Throughout Gnomeo and Juliet, Asbury changed the plot, setting, and characters in order to create a film better-suited for children. …show more content…
Friar Lawrence in the play desperately wanted the feuding families to unite and married Romeo and Juliet for that sole purpose. However, the flamingo, Featherstone, who is also responsible for bringing the lovers together, is solely focused on the couple’s happiness and is not concerned about uniting the feuding gardens. Featherstone not only taught Gnomeo and Juliet the pain of loss and the power of love, but he influenced the audience with his warmth and positivity as well. By using a flamingo to send the message, Asbury avoided confusing the children with a religious figure like the friar. Another substantial change in the characters is the way the nurse from the play’s character is manifested in the movie. The nurse in the play is more serious and tries to push Juliet to marry Paris, the man her father chose. However, in the film, the nurse’s equivalent, who is a frog named Nanette, is more cheerful and supports Juliet’s love for Gnomeo and wants them to be together. The character changes them tremendously changed the mood of the film and made it more
Aristotle proposed what is believed to be the first definition of a true tragedy. Specifically, he states that a tragedy triggers great pity and fear caused by the main characters’ actions alone. Likewise, a true tragedy lacks coincidence and fate plays little in the overall play. William Shakespeare writes the play of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet in which the audience knows the destiny of these two tragic heroes from the very beginning. Although this play is tragic knowing that the lives of two lovers are lost, it is not a tragedy as Romeo and Juliet are not solely responsible for their own deaths. Destiny is determined through the hands of greater forces than that of Romeo and Juliet, making this play merely tragic and not a true
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story about two young lovers who are forced to be estranged as a result of their feuding families. The play is about their struggle to contravene fate and create a future together. As such, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would try and emulate Shakespeare’s masterpiece. This had been done before in many films. Prominent among them were, Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 “Romeo and Juliet” and Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 “William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.” Both films stay true to the themes of Shakespeare’s original play. However, the modernised Luhrmann film not only maintains the essence of Shakespeare’s writings, Luhrmann makes it relevant to a teenage audience. This is
Romeo and Juliet is a very well known book that is loved by many. There numerous movies done on Romeo and Juliet like Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version and Gnomeo and Juliet. There are many apparent differences like using guns instead of swords and using gnomes instead of people. Although there are many similarities, the differences between Luhrmann’s movie and Gnomeo and Juliet compared to the play Romeo and Juliet are evident. The similarities between the movie and the play only go down to the plot and language.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and a modern take on the story portrayed in Gnomeo and Juliet directed by Kelly Asbury can be compared to each other in many ways. As both stories progress, and the plot develops, it becomes clearer that there are multiple similarities and differences between the two. Despite their differences, both tell the timeless story of Romeo and Juliet in a way that touches everyone.

In the works of literature Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare and The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, there are two young female characters; Juliet capulet and Hazel Grace. These characters differ in their behaviour and are both affected by the power of love. Juliet, a character in Romeo & Juliet is a youthful, inexperienced girl who hadn't thought a lot about love or her future with a man until her mother introduces the idea of marrying Paris. Juliet is content until she soon after encounters Romeo. After this, the dependant Juliet becomes extremely independent.
In the film Gnomeo and Juliet, Gnomeo says he prefers this ending rather than the horrific original Shakespeare ending. I also prefer the Gnomeo and Juliet because it ends with a happy ending instead of the deaths of star crossed lovers. Even though both films have different endings they have many other things in common. Such as the similarity of wanting nothing to do with each other until Romeo and Juliet meet. They both have the same concept as well with the feuding over whos better.
The way men convey their love for the first time is very similar, if not exactly the same in both literature and songs. “Michelle,” is a song performed by Sir Paul McCartney, at the White House for Barack and Michelle Obama. In the song, a man is trying to woo a woman, whom of which we assume is French; it is also. Lines 44-53 of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is an excerpt from a play by William Shakespeare. In the excerpt, Romeo sees a young lady, who he does not know yet that it is Juliet, and shows instant interest upon putting his eyes on her. Considering both sources and what they say about men when they express their emotions, we can presume that when a male first has a passionate attraction to someone, that man is influenced by those emotions
The two stories The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisby there are many similarities and differences. For example, they are both love stories. Which is a similarity. A example of a difference is Pyramus and Thisby never got to meet each other before their fate. Throughout the stories there are many more examples of similarities and differences.
“Nothing you can make that can’t be made. No one you can save that can’t be saved. Nothing you can do but you learn how to be you in time. It’s Easy.” Can you imagine, writing a song in 11 days that would be performed in front of approximately 400 million people all over the world? Sounds a bit unrealistic doesn’t it? The Beatles were asked to write a song that they would broadcast all over the world. A song that had a massage, a massage that was clear and easy to understand. Geoff Emerick once said “I don’t know if they had prepared any ides but they left it very late to write the song. John said ‘Oh God, is it that close? I suppose we’d better write something.’ “Perhaps it was the 11 day crunch that made this song a hit, or maybe it was the massage. All many know is that “All You Need is Love” is a song that has been carried throughout history for years. Many would classify this song as a classic, much like
Shakespeare represents the idea of how holiness and passionate Romeo’s love for Juliet are, through the metaphor in the quote “My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.” The metaphor conveys the idea of Romeo’s lips acting as pilgrims, ready to kiss Juliet tenderly. Comparing his lips to pilgrims that will worship Juliet’s lips like pilgrims who’s worship a holy place. Despite only knowing Juliet for a short period of time- still, Romeo shows his passionate love and desire to kiss Juliet. Luhrmann’s modern version which portrays the ideas through Juliet’s angel costume and the panning film technique.
I actually do prefer the ending in Gnomeo and Juliet ,the ending is less tragic and has a happy ending unlike the original Romeo and Juliet play. There is many differences between the two views of the story and I like the Gnomeo and Juliet better. In the play there is a lot of tragedies and does not have a happy ending. In the play Tybalt, Mercutio, Romeo, and Juliet all die but in Gnomeo and Juliet both characters live and Tybalt dies ,but comes back later on in the end of the movie. The play is a more accurate representation of the actual story ,but it has a more appalling ending.
The Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet has been recreated and adapted many many times. One of the most popular adaptations is the animated movie Gnomeo and Juliet, which is actually very similar to the original play. They have similar characters, like the gnome Tybalt, and the gnome Benny (Benvolio). In addition to this, both the movie and the play have almost the same plot-line (a fued, a forbidden love, a fight scene, and the feud coming to a halt at the end). On the other hand, the movie and the play have many differences, too.
Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation on Romeo and Juliet has many similarities and contrasting elements with the original, made by Shakespeare. The casting, special, and Scenery of the adaptation and the original all have some things in common or are contrasting to each other.
In the story “Romeo And Juliet”, we find two star-crossed lovers in love, but their love is soon interrupted by a feud between their parents which in the end causes them to end their lives. The lovers first meet at a party where they find themselves falling in love at first sight, but soon the feud tears them apart and pushes them to suicide when Romeo gets banished and later receives a note and finds Juliet “dead” in the Capulet tomb after drinking a potion gave to her by friar lawrence which puts her in a deep sleep, and when Romeo finds her, he believes shes dead, and commits suicide and she awakes to him dead and takes a dagger to the stomach and dies. The people who caused this to happen are Tybalt and Romeo.
