1) On the goals you set for yourself for this semester, how have you done? Have you improved in some, stayed the same in others? Have you actually done better than you thought was possible? Is there a particular goal you found more challenging to accomplish? What activities in class helped you achieve the goals you set for yourself?
My goals for this semester are being comfortable and confident when giving out a fluent and clear speech, making speaking in public becomes one of the easiest and adapted skills for me. I have been trying to do my best in speeches, and got improved. I improved a lot in giving speeches fluently and clearly because of the number of speeches I have experienced. The more exercises you did, the more fluent and clear

I used to think giving a speech in front of many classmates can be overwhelming and challenging, because they may made fun of me when I making a mistake. After several speeches, I find speaking in public is much more easier than I thought, because everyone focus on your story rather than mistakes. Although I did better in being comfortable and confident during the speeches, I find it is still the goal that more challenging to accomplish because I am too eager to give out a good speech which caused the nervous.
In-class discussions, examples of the successful speakers, varieties of speaking tactics all helped me achieve the goals I set for myself. Meanwhile, I also learned from watching classmates gave out speeches, which gave me ideas on how to improve.
2) Did you develop any other goals for yourself throughout the semester that you didn't even write in your reflection paper? For example, maybe you didn't write about getting past nerves and growing in confidence, but as the semester went along, you wanted that for yourself? Or, maybe you witnessed a particular skill that a fellow classmate had that you admired, and you set the goal for yourself to improve in that

How did taking this course help you get ready for those goals?
My goals for public speaking in the future is being enjoyable and energetic during giving attracting speeches. The ultimate goal is getting the ability of giving out meaningful and helpful speeches to people who need a guidance. I have saw numerous examples that meaningful speeches gave people hints and got out of troubles. Meanwhile, as a businessman in the future, the ability to give out convincing speeches is one of the most important tools to attract investment from the public.
From taking this course, I learned how to use varieties of speaking tactics to attract and convince audiences, such as surprising numbers and facts, real experiences related to the topic. Meanwhile, being speak in front of the classmates for many times enable me to speak more comfortable and enjoyable in the future. I also learned from classmates on how to control the audiences’ moods and the overall
When it comes to public speaking, I tend to fumble my words. I do not always communicate my thoughts as I would like. In the past, I was hindered from public speaking due to my intense stage fright. Oddly enough, I am heavily involved at my church, and they have asked me to speak on several occasions over the course of this year. I did not ask for this, but I suppose it is God’s calling for me. I preached my first sermon at age seventeen in front of over 700 people. Shortly after, my high school asked me to speak in chapel for over 400 students around my age. Those are a few examples that have gotten me to this point, today. I have had very little professional instruction with public speaking, so I anticipate learning a great amount this year, including: word flow, different tactics, memorization, and gaining more confidence. I do not enjoy public speaking but I feel it is necessary for my career. I truly am a living, breathing paradox.
Some of the goals this year is to get good grades on most of the subjects. What I will do to accomplish that is I will listen in class and study for more than one day. Something I’ve done right I want to continue doing is to read a lot of books and writing excellent essays. I also want to do better in Social Studies. I will do this by studying history facts every week.
Public speaking is the spark that leads to the realization of the need for change. When the world becomes so conditioned to not talk about the uncomfortable issues, it becomes easy to forget how harmful they truly are. However, public speaking is that opportunity to hold up that mirror to society, and command a change to be made. All of the great social shifts were fueled by the speeches of those who cared. The famous of all being the famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which still is quoted today. In order for change to take place, an individual must speak up in some sort of public forum to identify the problem.
Public speaking is something that I enjoy. Being able to talk to many people at once and having them get to know a part of me is something I find interesting. With me enjoying speaking to people I found myself running for the Associated Student Body (ASB) president my senior year in high school, I was the secretary previous year. Knowing that with the position of being the president of the school I knew it came with having to be very social not only with my fellow ASB team but with the entire school! However, that was the least of my problems. I knew that in order for me to run for the position having a speech to present to the former ASB president and administration of the school was mandatory. Writing speeches have never been my cup of tea. I have always winged it, mixing my personality into the core of the message I was trying to deliver seemed to always work for me. I worked on the main points I was going to present, had a few lines that I knew I was going to follow but the rest I knew would come to me when the day came. It was the day for everyone running for office to have their presentation ready. Because I was running for the highest office that was available everyone who applied for a lower/ different position went first. Starting from the lowest office of being the freshman representation moving all the way up to the president. Because I was one of the last to present I had an advantage of
Claudia Stepanovich gave me a message through power point that I completely agree with and that is that public speaking is not a skill you are born with; it is something that you have to learn and get better at. This message spoke to me, because I am extremely nervous about public speaking and I always avoid it when I can; when I can’t avoid it I always get nervous and start to stutter and forget information.
In the first speech for this class, my main goals were to gain confidence to voice my ideas and use speech to make a difference in peoples’ lives, and to practice overcoming my speech anxiety therefore be able to use my nerves to focus myself. Overall, I believe that I did improve in both of these areas as a result of information from the book, mini speeches, and the larger speeches.
Concerning future speeches, a goal for me to set and work towards would be to have a more relaxed stance from the very beginning that carries through to the end of the speech which can likely be achieved through more practice in front of others instead of practicing by myself. As a whole, a lot of work, research, perfecting and time were put into this speech and it turned out a lot better than
2. Looking back at the semester (hindsight is 20/20, right?) what are 4 things you might have done differently in order to increase your success? What are the changes will you make moving forward to avoid a repeat of these
This really helped me to find my confidence and taught me how to get rid of the nerves that comes with public speaking. There is always room to improve and through the speech classes I took throughout high school I feel like I improved in my speaking skills. One of my strengths is being good at preparation. Preparation is a very important factor in making a good speech. Knowing your audience, your topic, and knowing how to organize a speech properly is something I find to be a strength. Another strength of mine that I previously stated is knowing how to get through any nerves that I have. My weaknesses of public speaking include my newly developed stutter, talking too fast, and not speaking super clearly. With speeches I am much better at putting the speech together rather than actually giving
From the beginning of the semester until now, I believe I have overcome a few of the goals from the midterm. Those goals were strength training, tension awareness, and having a sense of alignment. In addition to these goals, I have very well improved with attendance, participation, and work ethic. Aside these components, there are always new goals that develop from the accomplished ones.
My first point is standing still.I learned that when you move to much it distracts from the message you’re trying to get across. Standing still can even show that what you’re saying is important and that your audience should know it’s important too. I also learned that standing still makes you look confident and feel confident.
As a student, my biggest expectation for Speech 111 is to learn and grow. I would like to learn the ins and outs of how to organize thoughts into a way that is clear for the audience to understand. I think this is the best way to clearly get your point across for a room full of people with all different opinions and listening habits. I have applied for Dental Hygiene program at Lake Land College. As a requirement for the Dental Hygiene program, speech was a “must take” course. I think this is a great prerequisite as speaking with colleagues or giving presentations in the workplace are a sure thing. From speech I would like to take away how to more efficiently, confidently, and more effectively publicly speak. Whether it just be within a small
Throughout the public speaking course, I 've learned a variety of methods and strategies that have strengthen the effectiveness for my last speech or any speech, that my occur in the near distant future. It was important to understand elements that were effective and ineffective to avoid making the same mistakes and to have a clear understanding Where I may have fell short in the past and could improve in the future of public speaking. When constructing the persuasive speech it was important to use the rhetoricl methods such as the a few of the 5 canons of Rhetoric as well as a few communication strategies, these tips have definitely improved my persuasion speech effectiveness.
First of all, this year my academic goal I hope to achieve is getting good grades this year. One way I am going to get good grades is by studying more. I will make my own flashcards to study will them. I will try to study in advance so I do not have to study everything in one day. Maybe I can even make a pre-assignment to see what I already know or what I need help on. This will help me reach this goal because if I make my own flashcards I know I will study off them. Another way I am going to reach my goal is by asking for help if I need it. For example, when I am confused I can start asking questions in class so I know what we are talking about in class. I will also meet up before or after school so I can get the extra help I need it. If I am ever stuck, I can check with myself if I need help on a specific topic. This will help me reach my goal. Finally, I will stay organized and pay attention in class to reach my goal.
In public speaking of any form to a diverse group of individuals, my main consideration as the speaker is my concentration on the audience that I am speaking to. In starting an effective presentation,
