Soccer, also known as football in many other countries, is a game focused on moving a black and white ball across a grass field and place it in the goal of the opposing team to score points in the course of two 45 minute halves. At the end of the game, the team with the most points reigns victorious. In some instances, there is a tie, the game moves into overtime and, if still tied, to penalty kicks (where the goalie must prevent a direct shot from the opposing team). Often times, the official will simply declare a draw. Therefore, with the objective to score the most points, it is imperative that teamwork, communication, emotional discipline and physical endurance is maintained by the teams. Also, in recent years, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), requires that each team take the pledge to end racism and promote ethical playing practices, both on and off the field. Thus, indicating why the …show more content…

Athletes who play football share the same goal as athletes who play soccer: score the most goals to win the game. In football, there are two areas on opposite sides of the field where one can score points by bringing the football over the goal line. Soccer shares this same concept by having two nets on opposite sides of the field where one can score a point by kicking the soccer ball into the net. Also, both sports share the concept of having an offense and defense, and both sports each have eleven players on a team on the field at a time. These are only few of many similarities between these two sports, but in actuality, they are significantly different. The rules, rituals, and concepts of both sports distinguish
Soccer is regarded as the world’s biggest sport, it’s played everywhere, from the streets to major cities around the globe. There are many misconceptions about soccer and it’s very frustrating to hear about; being a Soccer fan myself. Whether you call it football or soccer, there are three enormous misconceptions I hear all the time and one of the biggest misconception I hear from people is that soccer is a very long and boring sport. The second one I pick up from people is whenever a penalty kick has been awarded, the referee must give a red or yellow card to the opposing teams defender. This Just isn’t true. The last misconception is you will get beat up by delinquents if you go to a game. Most People believe that soccer isn’t very exciting to watch and is very tiresome to go through. Soccer isn’t a game where two teams go back and forth scoring goal after goal.
The rules of play for soccer have deliberately been kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. The game starts off with a kick off, and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick, and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their opponent’s goal. If the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw-in, where the ball is thrown over the player’s head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the goal, or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive team, where the ball is placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal kick, where the ball is placed on the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. If a goal is scored, the ball is taken back to the center of
Ethical dilemmas confront athletes, coaches, fans and others around the games every year, forcing people involved in sports to examine their behavior and conditions and reevaluate the morals and ethics that are most important to them. Sports topics related to ethics begin in youth sports and carry well into professional sports.
Eden Prairie Soccer has been a part of my life since I was four years old. All the experiences soccer has given me throughout the years helped make my mission trip to Haiti so successful. While in Haiti, football (soccer) is a huge form of entertainment among the children of the village we visited. The experiences the Eden Prairie Soccer Club has made it possible to connect with the children in Haiti through soccer. First, soccer has taught me many ways how to communicate on the field, through hand gestures, body language and verbal cues. In Haiti, there was a language barrier so hand gestures and body language became crucial when communicating to the children. These gestures were not just helpful when playing soccer, but also when playing
Not only does the world affect soccer and its ideas, but soccer creates substantial effects on the world as well. Soccer extensively influences politics all over the world, some of its effects positive and some negative. One of the major positive effects the sport can have is its power to stop wars and bring nations together. One prime example of this is in 1967, Pele, a world famous Brazilian soccer star played in an exhibition match in Nigeria . Prior to this event, Nigeria had been in the middle of a civil war, but when Pele arrived to play in the match, the country called a 48-hour cease-fire just to honor Pele and his talent . In 2007 in Ivory Coast, the same thing happened again, only this time, Ivory Coast’s own soccer team united the nation. Ivory Coast had been at war with itself for five years when the national team played in the rebel capital. Both government supporters and rebels were next to each other cheering in the stands because of soccer instead of politics (“Football- A Beautiful Game…”). Another time countries have made peace over soccer was in 2008 and 2009 when Turkey and Armenia played in a World Cup qualifying game. The leader of Turkey and Armenia met to watch the game together consequently thawing relationships between the two countries (Weiner). Soccer can also be a vehicle for various movements, especially in the Middle East, where
Learners who have little or no experience about the rules of engagement of soccer will require to learn and understand the fundamental rules of soccer. This will enable them to become familiar with soccer and eventually appreciate it in their life. This is because understanding the rules and regulations of soccer enable learners to understand the nature of life, as well as learn morale teachings that we experience in our day to day life activities. It will also enable students to learn from known to unknown and become competent as the lesson progresses. The secondary objective of the course is for the teacher to allow learners to understand that the game of soccer is a virtual activity or ability although an individual chooses the playing

But, the first modern version of soccer originates from Victorian England. Since then, soccer has spread around the world to the point where almost every country plays some form of it.
