According to CNN, “close to 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths in 2011 and an average of 268 citizens are shot every day”. Thousands of children and women are the victim of gun violence. Gun violence in the United States is increasing as each year passes by. Most of the time, poor people or low class people are the victim of gun violence. In the United States, by the law, a license is required to have a gun, but law informant agencies are failing to do that. Some people are carrying guns without a license, and use them to commit crimes, such as robberies and murdering innocent people. Some people argue that guns should be limited to only police officers and military, and citizens should not be allowed to carry guns. They …show more content…
However, owning a gun is not the only way for an individual to defend himself. There are security systems, self-defense classes, and martial art classes. Purchasing a gun and believing it can protect someone is quite naïve. There are better approaches an individual can take to protect themselves. With purchasing a gun, one must have a license to own and use it. Some people even commit a crime with license guns, so guns should not be allowed to citizen for any reason. There should be completely ban on gun sell. Gun control would reduce the rate of homicide and gun control would surely reduce crime. It will place qualifications for people who are eligible to have a gun. That would lead to less people having guns and only the more responsible people in the world owning guns. I believe this would reduce both crimes and deaths. In an article, “The Facts That Neither Side Wants to Admit about Gun Control”, by Justin King, acknowledges, “Australia enacted its gun ban in 1996. Murders have basically run flat, seeing only a small spike after the ban and then returning almost immediately to preban numbers” (King). Gun control will help crime rates and homicide rates drop. Guns are very powerful weapons and should not be in the hands of just anyone. If United States can have strict rules about the selling of guns, like other countries do then it will surely reduce crimes. Many
If gun control is regulated, then we will have less crime. Access to firearms makes killing easy, efficient, and impersonal, which increases the lethality of crime. Josh Sugarmann, the Executive Director of the Violence Policy Center has once said, "We recoil in horror and search for explanations, but we never face up to the obvious preventive measure: a ban on the handy killing machines that make crimes so easy.”Allowing untrained people to carry guns puts others at risk and it can result in self-inflicting injuries both by suicide and unintentional incidents. Gun violence in America kills more than 30,000 and injures almost 70,000 each year. Guns can be misused and abused, which is why gun
The United States is one of the few countries were the right to bear arms is protected by the constitution. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most violent with incidents involving guns this year reaching an estimated 36,212 and an approximate 9,050 deaths (“Gun Violence Archive”). There are an estimated 310 million firearms in households across American, these are only estimates because current gun laws do not require them to be registered or tracked. A more staggering estimate is that most of the guns owned by private citizens are semi-automatic guns, the same type of gun used in almost all mass shootings. While these privately owned guns are legally purchased, many times, they land in the hands of criminals, and owners never report them stolen. Mass shootings and gun crimes are not the only issues with gun violence the one never talked about is suicide, more guns available equals more suicides. The United States is one of the easiest countries to own a gun legally or illegally, stricter gun control laws are necessary.
More gun laws would have a negative effect on shootings and crime rates. Stricter gun laws would not prevent people from getting guns, would not prevent killings, and would not fare well with the people of the United States. Strict gun laws would only prevent law-abiding citizens from getting guns, and criminals would still be able to get them. Crime and shooting rates do not go down after increase in gun-restrictive laws are passed. People in the United States have the right to defend themselves from harm, and the 2nd Amendment right to own firearms.
The gun violence, crimes, and cases in the United States is a national epidemic. A lot of people take advantage of guns using them and manipulating their weapon with hardly any thought. Many countless innocent lives have been lost because of the fact that people have been able to obtain firearms legally or illegally. These people have taken the notion to be the jury, judge, and executioner in holding someone’s life in their hands. For example, in the article Think Progress the state, “Courts have granted immunity to a man who went back to his car to get a gun, and another who shot a acquaintance for threatening to beat him up.”(Think Progress). Think Progress also states, “In Florida alone, 26 children and teens were killed in Stand Your Ground cases.”(Think Progress). These are very serious cases where people have misused their rights by manipulating the Stand Your Ground Law and their weapon. Gun violence just do not affect the victims, but it also affects poor neighborhoods, family and friends. The Atlantic report confirms great logos with providing statistical facts stating, “There are about 310 million guns in the country. About 40% of households have them.” Guns are so easy to obtain legally and illegally that America has the highest gun rate than any other country in the
Guns have been is society for centuries. They have been used for hunting, war, and even safety. However, in the past several years they have begun to take the lives of many innocent victims, often young children. In response to the killings in Newtown, Conn., it has been noted, “If this were a country, the number of children killed by gun violence would violate international law.” (Browne-Marshall) F.B.I. data shows in 2011, 1,668 African American children were killed due to guns. Day by day gun violence is rising and it is not only in ghetto neighborhoods.
Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons.
In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over 10,000 gun-related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also, putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations.
Gun Violence is a major problem in the United States, it leads to a lot of deaths every day. The area of focus is the United States of America. More controls need to be put on guns to make America a safer nation. More than 30,000 people are killed each year in this country due to guns. There are some questions that haven’t been answered like, Amendments that need to be made to reduce the availability of guns. At the point when American threats with Britain began on April 19, 1775, the Continental Congress had no standing armed force, no stores of weapons and munitions, no naval force, and no navy ships. The Continental Congress revitalized volunteers to join the battle against the British. Farmers and tradesmen conveying their own black powder guns framed a volunteer army along the street from Boston to Concord, Massachusetts, discharged the first shot of the Revolution, and battled again on Bunker Hill in Charlestown on June 17. As a result, the Constitution of the United States was embraced in 1787 on the condition that a Bill of Rights would be included. The initial Ten Amendments to the Constitution, including the Second Amendment, were sanctioned by Congress on December 15, 1791. The Second Amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The historical backdrop of
I dont really remember what I told you my topic was for my research paper. So, if it is not what I think it is which is the trying to lower gun violence in America I would like to change it because lately I've been doing research on gun violence in America and I just noticed how big of a problem it was. There is a shooting almost everyday and in many of them at least one person dies. I think that if your family and or loved ones have had history of mental illness there should be a test given to evaluate their psych. And if there is no history there still should be other measures taken. Also there should give gun control classes and what it really means to take a life once you pull the trigger there is no going back. When people leave in the
So when shootings occur, especially mass shootings, “the media’s framing of crime-related issues often dictates whether public opinion will perceive crime as a concern of individual or social responsibility” (Iyengar cited by Payne 2014). So in other words, should the public be concerned about specific individuals on a micro level or should everyone be accounted for. In such cases where mass shootings occur the response to such events from our government is to remind us of the gun violence, to continue and place more fear into society. They briefly address the mental health system before going onto the “real” situation which is “the role of gun policies in an attempt to ameliorate the public’s growing demand of gun reform in the aftermath of
What are some answers to reduce America’s gun violence? In the following, I will describe America’s problem concerning gun violence, some solutions and the best solution to solve this problem.
Every living being has its own sense to instinctively protect its life from dangers. In nature, every living creature individually struggles to sustain its life or comes together with other fellow creatures to defend the colony and live for many years away from dangers. Just like in this example, each human being has the same instinct as well. People who have same purpose come together and establish a state to collectively protect themselves and the community from the interior and exterior dangers. In parallel with this purpose, each individual of this organization is responsible for paying taxes to a government of the state in order to sustain the society’s existence. In exchange for the payment, a government is responsible for making sure of citizen’s security, but
Buying a lethal firearm is just as easy as purchasing groceries. Furthermore, most big chain grocery stores sell guns to be purchased along with your essential food items. Guns have been a controversial topic for many years, and the big question is who should be allowed to own one. Gun control has been the solution provided to help prevent violent crimes in the U.S. The question to be asking though, should not be how do we keep citizens from owning lethal weapons, to how do we keep lethal weapons out of the wrong hands? Finding loopholes through the given civil rights of citizens, such as the second amendment, have proven too difficult to simply set a gun ban nationwide and take away a citizen’s firearm. Lenient gun control laws are safer
Sometimes it is necessary to own a gun for protection. The ban of guns' sells is not the right choice because this would only make it harder for honest people to get ahold of a gun and easier on criminals to take advantage of innocent people.
The behavior which involves physical force with the intention to hurt, kills, or damage something or someone is defined as violence. It can come in many different forms such as emotional, sexual, physical, psychological, and cultural. However the many different forms we may know if there is one in particular which is responsible for the many lives that have been lost. This form of violence in which I’m speaking about deals with gun violence in America and although it is nothing new to most of us it is overlooked too often. I recall growing up as a child and seeing violence in the simplest forms such as verbal altercations or physical fights. Nowadays our generation experience violence by way of guns and has been exposed to more violence and deaths than one could ever imagine. Violence does not only attract this country in which we live but those who engage in it are also entertained. Gun violence is a major problem in America and has taken the lives of so many innocent people. Gun violence in America has not only led to a range of serious physical, psychological, and social issues within our country, but it has now become a public health crisis. The main response to this problem would center on the overall lack of gun control and how so many individuals seem to gain access to these tools to commit these tragic crimes. This paper will deal with the overall violence in which we encounter in particular gun violence and the reasons which led to these types
