In Hamlet’s dysfunctional family Claudius has taken the place of Hamlet’s father after killing his brother the king. Hamlet refuses to acknowledge Claudius as his father because Claudius took the place of his father a month after his dad died . Another source to the conflict is that Claudius killed Hamlet’s father. After Hamlet found out about his father’s murderer he became hell-bent on revenge (because he’s haunted by a ghost). The second half of the quote shows that Gertrude is used to getting in the insectious sheets, she has skill (dexterity) , hinting to the fact that Gertrude and Claudius had an affair when Hamlet’s dad was still alive. Hamlet also calls their relationship “insectous” finding it to be unholy or a sin based on the relation to the bible. Hamlet maintains his view of Claudius’s insectous affair with Gertude till his death. At act 5 scene 2 before killing Claudius Hamlet calls him an “incestuous, (-- removed HTML --) damned Dane”, this confrontation is Hamlet’s direct accusation of calling Claudius an incestuous murder. So thorough the play the feelings between Hamlet and Claudius created the plot and eventually reached a climax with their death. The whole tragedy of Hamlet could have been prevented if Hamlet accepted Claudius as his step-dad. It shows how the sacred bond of family shouldn’t become defiled by internal family conflicts.
While mourning his father’s death Hamlet finds the ghost of his father. The ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius is the killer and that he must avenge him. This development further shattered the sacred family
