Today, I had a talk with one of my classmates. Her name was Hanna, Hanna Skog. She is a 15 year old girl with blond hair and glasses. She lives in Skoppum, in Norway. When it comes to siblings, she has 1 twin sister, and also 1 half-brother. I asked if she enjoys school: She said she does enjoy going to school, because she says she can meet with her friends here, which I can agree with. Her favorite subject in school, is Gym/PE. She likes this subject because she enjoys sports. Regarding her favorite show, movie, book, and/or video game, she answered that she was not quite sure what her favorite movie was, and that she does not watch that many movies in the first place. However, she did say her favorite book was The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,

“If you say 1.5 million, it’s just a number. When you see a person, you realize what it was, what it meant, and the one life lost, and then you can multiply that by a million and a half, and you realize what a horror it was” (Burstein). The Holocaust is one event that captures how hideous the world can be. During the duration of 12 years, 11 million people of different cultures, religions, and races were executed because of the Nazi party. Of those 11 million people, 1.5 million were children (Burstein). Hana Brady was one of these children who was persecuted because she chose to practice a religion other than what the Nazi party thought was proper. Although the Holocaust was a deplorable time in world history, humankind had the unfortunate
Hanneli ‘Hannah’ Pik-Goslar was much like other Jewish children in Germany in the 1930’s, she was shunned, not allowed to go to the movies or ice skate, and was forced to attend a special school. Most of Germany was segregated against the Jewish and against her family. Hannah was born in Germany in 1928 to Ruth Klee and Hans Goslar, by the time she’s 5 years old she and her parents are already on the run from Nazi’s. When she’s 12 her sister Gabi was born. She is already friends with Anne when she hears they’ve fled to Switzerland. This is not true as they have just started their two year hiding period in the Secret Annex. In 1942 Hannah’s mom dies in childbirth with a stillborn baby. While her dad managed to get passport, they were still arrested
I went on to ask her about school and how she felt about it and the relationships that she has gathered while being there. She was open and forward about school. She didn’t care for it too much. She believed that it was more of a fashion show that didn’t charge admission than an institution of learning. She felt that this was how and why most of the children at school got recognized and established their so call status at school. About her friends and the selection process, she was reserved and settle with the position of dealing with friend that have being around through-out her elementary experience. Meaning that she does not set out to make new friends, she would prefer to relish and maintain the ones that she presently has.

Sigurd is more heroic then Gunnar because Sigurd was able to defeat a dragon. Also he accomplished the task of riding through the fire wall surrounding Brunhild’s castle when Gunnar couldn’t do it. Most of Gunnar’s heroic acts were from winning battles in wars. Gunnar would have been heroic like Sigurd if he had accomplished Sigurd’s deeds. This is because being able to ride through a wall of flames and killing a dragon are more impressive heroic acts then winning war battles.
Just a short eight days ago, Jeannette Rankin paved a new path for women as she became the first Congresswoman. On November 7, she won the position of U.S. Representative for the state of Montana. She has already made major impacts in other states such as Washington and California, and she hopes to continue her dreams as a Representative.
Would the advances of today be up to such standards without the writings of history? Diary’s and books show the way of life along with what did and did not work. Women such as Martha Ballard and Mary Jemison gave an insight into their life that would have not been accessible to the world we know.
