Happiness In John Steinbeck's Me, I Still Believe In Paradise

“Me, I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it’s not someplace you can look for because it’s not where you go. It’s how you feel for a moment in your life when you’re a part of something and if you find that moment, it lasts forever.” (from The Beach). This quote, when someone overcomes materialism and also finds happiness, is something everyone should experience in life; although some people don’t. Why do some people struggle so much to be happy? Why does it do that? What are some other reasons why people struggle to be happy? If everyone was consistently happier what would that look like and how could they learn to do that? Many people die regretting doing something in their life or acting a certain way and that can be prevented.

Ultimately happiness is something everyone wants to maintain, however some ways are only temporary or don't work at all. For example, people who treasure materialistic things such as clothes, cars and money will only be happy with it for a fleeting time. Materialism has become a substantial problem in society and is one of the reasons people struggle to be constantly happy. Well it's all in your power, people can give you advice to be happier but you have to truly want to and also fully understand it for it to work. Some problems that keep you from being happy are materialism, negativity, selfishness, and people not taking care of themselves. The fix for these problems are, in reality, very simple; you don't really need anything except to change your mental habits.
