Nelly Salazar English III- Period 4th October 31, 2017 Teens and Social Media Jena Twenge in her article “Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation” gives several points that cause her readers to question the effects of smartphones on teenagers. After reading several articles, hearing other people stories, and in my own personal experiences, social media seems to be hurting teenager rather than helping them. Teenagers under the age of 18 should not be allowed access to social media. Why is social media unhealthy for teenagers? According to Jean Twinges article, ”Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation? “ Smartphones are “cutting onto teens sleep less than 7 hours a night” She also says “fifty-seven percent more teens were sleep deprives.” …show more content…

Parents now days think they need a phone, for they can chat with their friends, or for emergency if they feel sick at school. Back then, when I was twelve I wasn’t allowed to have a social media, only because my parents would say I don’t know how to control a Snapchat, Instagram, nor a Facebook. Now days other moms would buy them an iPhone, the newest iPhone, they’ll make their account for every social media, some teenagers don’t know how to control it. They will add random people that appears and text them about their life. Have you ever seen a profile on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, which has their whole information there? Well, one day my friend my cousin was making a Facebook profile, I told her not to put her whole information in because they can hack it and find out about everything, of where she lives, where she from, probably where her parents come from, and can also track your phone, by putting your phone number. So she didn’t listen to me, she put a lot out from her information, but one thing she did really wrong was, she put it as public can see it. I told her to at least put as private, for you can only see it, but she was dumb to tell me “I want people to come visit me, or what about if I meet someone and wants to visit me” that literally came to my head that I should tell her mom, I went to go tell her what she did, my aunt went to her room and told her to put it on private, and why she was
