For a hazardous waste to be classified as an ignitable waste it must be “…a liquid and has a flash point below 140 degrees Fahrenheit…” (DEEP: What is a Haz. Waste?). This means that if the hazardous material can catch on fire if it is less than 140 degrees Fahrenheit it is considered an ignitable waste. In 1986, a waste treaty between Canada and the U.S. was signed by American lawmakers concerning the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Waste.
