M1/D1 Safeguarding adults In this essay I will be assessing the possible immediate effects of two different forms of abuse on the health and wellbeing of adults by using the case studies of Serinda and the one for the residential care home, Ash court. In the case study of Serinda I will be evaluating how she was affected by domestic abuse as she had been a victim through the hands of her husband who broke her arms twice, fractured her pelvis and burnt her with a cigarette. She had also been disowned by her family and was endangered by her brother-in-law who had threatened to kill her. As a result of opposing him she was abused and the effects of these were dreadful. Serinda is now a victim who has a history of abuse therefore it will take her time to adjust to new things especially when it comes to having a relationship as she may never trust anyone again. The short term effects of having a history of abuse is that she will feel distressed and anxious for a short period of times before being able get over it. In the long term a history of abuse will maybe cause her to pass on the abuse to her new partner if she finds one or to her children. She may also face a drop in IQ as the trauma that she has faced will difficult to deal with therefore it would make it hard to be able to think due to being distressed over the events. This may affect her children if she is to have them with a new partner because they may be victims of abuse if their mother is violent towards them and or if both the parents split up then as a result they may not be able to look after the children and they could end up in care. If serinda doesn’t take up the provided care before the virus causes too much damage, as years go by she will start to suffer life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, tuberculosis or pneumonia. As a result of this she may start to self-injure because some believe that cutting makes the blood take away the bad feelings that they are experiencing. Pain can make you feel more alive when feeling numb or dead inside. The short term effects of her losing her job are that she will constantly be feeling anxious and worried because she has lost her job so she will start to struggle financially which can bring on stress. can The long term effects of losing her job are that she may not be able to get another job as no one will want to take someone in who is Ill as they will be losing out on money whenever she takes days of sick and some people may fear that she could infect them as HIV is not just a sexually transmitted disease. If she is unable to find somewhere else to work she may turn to drug addiction and prostitution to help her get by and these always have negative consequences such as people being aggressive towards her. Also, if she was to turn into a drug addict this will cause several parts of her main organs to shut down and could in the long run cause death. The loss of her job may result in her losing the home that she has been provided and if she has children it will lead to them running away because they have nowhere to go or they may fall into
