Health Benefits Of Vaccinations For Children

Decent Essays

Health is the greatest wealth that anyone is given. Living in a world more advanced than ever, we have the ability to give people a healthier life with vaccines. Certain vaccinations should be compulsory for all children considering they save lives, money, are effective, and will shield our current and future generations from illness and death.

To begin, by vaccinating our children, we are giving them a chance to live a healthier life. "Vaccines given to infants and young children over the past two decades will prevent 322 million illnesses, 21 million hospitalizations and 732,000 deaths over the course of their lifetimes, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention." "If you look at the history of any vaccine-preventable disease, you will virtually always see that the number of cases of disease starts to drop when a vaccine is licensed." (U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 2016). The history speaks for itself, vaccines have proven their power. Although these vaccines have showed us in the past what they can do, that is nothing compared to how they may affect our future. "The pneumococcal, rotavirus, and Haemophilus influezae type b vaccines — just three of many — are expected to prevent 102 million illnesses and 3.7 million deaths between 2011 and 2020." (Business Insider Inc., 2016). In just 9 years we are expected to save 3.7 million people which to many people, is astonishing. The power of vaccines is remarkable, but all that we need is people's willingness to receive them. A large problem with vaccines today is the lack of knowledge given about them to the general public. “The success of future human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programs will depend on individuals’ willingness to accept vaccination, parents’ willingness to have their preadolescent and early adolescent children vaccinated, and health care providers’ willingness to recommend HPV vaccination.” (1, Zimet). The human papillomavirus vaccine is currently the only vaccine which can prevent cancer. Many adolescents have received this vaccine already, and if we were to make this vaccine mandatory to receive, we could quote possibly wipe out this contagious virus from our next
