Nursing is an extremely demanding but rewarding career within the medical sector. Child nursing is a unique position to make a difference to the lives of children and their families. Through experiences in life I learnt that I can make a difference in the lives of other people. As a healthcare professional, I will be able to communicate effectively with each individual in such a close and intimate way, that no other career can offer. I am passionate about healthcare and I am looking to pursue a career helping young children with illnesses. Nursing will open the gate to my aspirations. An RN will have to be able to lift at least 10 pounds, maybe even 20 pounds (“Registered Nurse” para. 4). A person in this career should have an energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific (“Career” para. 6). If you happen to be an RN in a nursing home, an RN will watch over the LPN’s and CNA’s, may start fluids for the patient, make plans for treatments, and manage the patients health

“Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.” There was a girl who had always wanted to become one of importance, education, and also a contributor in her community. She feels that this occupation will assist her in living comfortably, providing for her family, and will be something she will enjoy doing. The career of a Registered Nurse is a challenging and important career, because of the importance one holds within a community. Healthcare workers in the United States work together to provide the best possible care for patients that come into their facility. Patients go through different waves of health care professionals before seeing an actual physician. Healthcare systems use a nurse practitioner, which is a registered nurse with more education and specialization, to help treat a patient in a timely manner. According to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, NPs have been providing care to patients for over 45 years. The year 2011 has seen 140,000 practicing nurse practitioners in the United States alone, with 9,000 more expected to enter the work force (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners a, 2010). Registered nurses have several duties and responsibilities that can range depending on the organization that they work for. Registered Nurse’s may be employed in physicians' offices, schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, clinics, and even in prison settings. They are responsible to provide direct care to patients that are done under the order and supervision of a licensed health professional. The licensed healthcare professionals include physicians, nurse practitioners or physician's assistants. The daily actions of an RN may include receiving a patient assignment, assessment of each patient, administering medications, attending to patient needs, facilitating patient, assisting the physician with bedside procedures, monitoring laboratory results, and monitoring for any changes in condition. While on the job they might also encounter heavy lifting of patients, exposure to bodily fluids, and large amounts of time on feet. The amounts of hours they work depend on where they work. For example, hospital-based nurses mostly work a total of 3 twelve-hour shifts per week while a office-based nurse usually works 5 days a week for a total of 40 hours.

The career of a Registered Nurse is fulling and rewarding because one is taking care of others. The research will describe the career of a registered nurse, what is required to become successful and the impact this career has on society.

It has always been a dream of mine to pursue a career as a Neonatal Nurse. I chose this career because my love for babies/infants started out at a young age, and as I developed in school, I learned that I have a passion for science and the medical field. Although this career is known to be more rigorous, I believe the rewards outweigh the challenges. Neonatal nurses work with newborn babies that were born with a variety of problems ranging from premature birth, cardiac malformations, not being fully developed, and more. These nurses also work with the families of the babies in comforting and educating the parents as to what to expect and how to properly care for their baby.

The success as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) requires hard work, compassion and empathy. It is important to realize the journey is challenging, but is fulfilling. The registered nurse profession was established in the 1800s. For over two hundred years a registered nurse has helped those in need. The responsibilities of nurses is to educate their patients on many types of diseases as well as provide guidance to patients and their loved ones. It is important for nurses to express compassion, emotional stability, and empathy for patients.

This article talks about how nursing was in the making and how it was basically created/ formed. It provides a list of people, events, and places where nursing was mostly used and how they used it. It also talks about how nursing saved half of the population back during World War II.

My short term goal is to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Jacksonville University.

Some long term goals I have for myself is to achieve my Master's Degree in Nursing. In the mean time I want to work as a nurse and use my skills and learn as much as I can on the job and to gain experience in the nursing world
