Hector the King of Troy and Malala have many heroic qualities - such as compassion, dedication, and courage - in common, but they also a multitude of differences including gutlessness, then on the opposite side of the spectrum, bravery. Hector, in book six of The Iliad, in one stanza he shows his compassion to his frightened young son by “quickly lifting the helmet from his head, set[ting] it down on the ground … raising his son he kissed him” (Kinsella 340). Hector shows dedication to his military men and his family by having the courage to go to battle; as it is best for everyone's future well being. Hector implores for mercy and life when Achilles is over Hector's body that is struggling for breath, “I beg you, beg you for life… don't let the dogs devour me…” (Kinsella 352); showing cowardice and gutlessness as exposed when he begs. One of the main differences between Malala Yousafzai and Hector from book twenty two from The Iliad is Hector will beg for life in a situation where he must die and Miss Yousafzai will not. Malala is a strong and stable individual whom has faced real danger in a life and death situation before and did not beg for mercy, and she will not beg even if it does happen again.
