That summer, Simpson’s father, Phil, who was a great athlete in his own right, called and asked me if I could take him to the Five Star Basketball camp in Pittsburgh. Every July I would take several of the top players in our area to Five Star, an invitation only camp that featured many of the best high school players in the country. I told Phil that I did not think he would get in because the camp’s youngest players were rising sophomores and Greg was only entering his freshman year. I gave him an application and told him to give it a try but not to be disappointed
It all began on November 3, 2015 during my first middle school basketball tournament. The grey brick walls of the gymnasium looking more like a prison than a school. The school’s “Lincoln Park Elementary School” sign had graffiti and missed a couple letters from the name. The court was terribly small, but we began by playing the superb team of Jam on It. We were blown out and I headed back up to my mom and dad in the parent filled stands. The game wasn’t even fun to play and we looked like third graders playing them. I looked up to my parents as sad as could be.
Sticky’s passion for basketball was the only thing that kept him going. It was the only thing he lived for. He dreamed of joining the NBA and going to the top universities, UCLA in particular. Sticky put in hours and hours at Lincoln Rec of tireless hard work. Even when Sticky had lost a finger, he still didn’t give up, “Sticky thinks maybe all that magic in his right-hand fingertips might be gone” (268). Yet still Sticky dazzles the coaches when he is invited to the training camp. The loss of Baby and the numerous switches of foster parents gave a notion of disappointment in Sticky’s life, but when it came to
With the Boys Basketball season in full swing, many students and teachers are very exited for the promising season ahead. The West Central boys are currently 0-2 but are hoping to turn the season around with the upcoming home games. “I think this season is going great I think that we have a real chance at State,” Said Senior Noah Vettrus. He said this after the 82-70 loss to Dells last Friday. It was in this game that he had 31 points and 10 rebounds. But he is not the only player that has a great outlook for this season, Junior Nick Nagel says that he is very excited for the season and he thinks the team will go all the way to state this year as long as they play smart and execute the plays correctly. “Honestly I see a lot of potential
One event in my life that has changed me, is when I was watching tv with my mom . We were watching the nba finals. In the finals series it was the Cleveland Cavaliers facing the San Antonio Spurs playing for the nba championship. In game one of the finals, the Cavaliers had suffered a lost eighty five to seventy six. Even though that was a tragic lost for game one, it still was decent. In game two the Cavs lost by eleven , then the next game was a lost by three , then in the last game of the finals, the Cavs lost by one point. But during the entire series the Cavaliers wasn’t doing that bad, but they did lose all their games. But in my mind I had hope for them to win but that just wasn’t enough for them. So the next basketball season I believed
The article “Football Major, Basketball Minor?” by Ben Strauss (2015) asserts that whether athletes in college engaged and focused on general classes more or typically focused only on practicing sports. Ben mentioned that many athletes are spending more time on the practicing sports, and there are vast majorities of athletes in college are majoring in sports instead of learning general knowledges. However, he introduces two arguments from two professors separately, David Pargman and William D. Coplin. They all provided a beneficial ideas for the situation that commonly existed in college. Athletes majoring in sports may learn the knowledge which is about professional sports training skills and they can easily use these skills for future games
4. When they would reach the Final Four, he would be the youngest coach left.

I read the book Summer Basketball, by Mike Lupica. This book was about a thirteen year-old boy named Danny Walker. Danny is a very small kid for his age, and is asked to attend a summer basketball camp. When he first gets to the camp, things start to go bad for Danny right away. He is placed in a cabin with eleven and twelve year-old kids instead of kids his own age. While at camp, Danny met some new friends who enjoy the sport, but were also bigger than him. He begins to lose interest towards the end of the camp, and comes with a plan to fake an injury so he would get sent home and not have to play. However his best friend, Tess, has a cabin across the lake from his camp. He uses her for motivation because he doesn’t want to disappoint her.
“Dad, it doesn’t seem fair,” announced Racer, disappointment coloring his voice. The set in his jaw and the pinch in his brow spoke more emphatically than his words. Though he didn’t believe a single word that came out of his mouth, he couldn’t stop himself from uttering this statement. Basketball was Racer’s passion: he ate, and breathe the very essence of basketball. He believed that he might even love it more than his eldest brother Victor, who had an unfortunate car accident a couple of years earlier, and yet they approved of his playing of basketball. Do not get him wrong, he was very happy for his big brother, but it just didn’t seem fair. Usually he followed he parent’s decision as being final, but this time he just couldn’t let it
In the story “A State Championship” by John Hoyle is like the Good Samaritan in the Bible parable. John Hoyle stopped to help a person who is not on his team and gives up winning. Both the Good Samaritan and John Hoyle stopped to help someone who they normally would not. They both did not get along with the other and they were from different groups.

Within Hollywood’s movies depiction of drug addiction, many have failed to represent all true aspects that come along with such lifestyles. The movie, The Basketball Diaries, is based off a novel Jim Carroll wrote from his own diary entries. As a teenager growing up in the sixties, Carroll reveals his progression of drug abuse which eventually leads him addicted to heroin.Heroin is a white powder derived from morphine found in opium. It is commonly prescribed as a painkiller, but is also a popular street drug. The director casted Leonardo DiCaprio as Jimmy, and concentrates on creating the character as a stereotypical drug abuser. DiCaprio’s most captivating scene is when he is going through heroin
"Lets go!" My team and I scream as we are about to start the championship game. It is a really cold and damp morning at Blakemore Field. My team is playing against Vian. Vian was a mean and nasty team. Quite a few of their players had beards. It was insane! They were terrifying and also the only other team in our league that is undefeated, and they are ginormous. We start to stretch and warm up as there is 5 minutes left before our game starts. My receivers and I start throwing the ball around and running routes. I told them my arm was warm so I went and laid down by the bleachers. When there is 1 minute left before the game, we start saying our prayer. As soon as we get done with our prayer we run through the banner and onto the field. "Lets go, lets get a great to this game!" I shout to my teammates. "Kickoff Team!" Coach screams. So the kickoff team and I go lineup to kick the ball off. The referee blows the whistle and we kick it off. The kick returner for Vian was huge and just ran us all over and kept going until he got to the end zone. So just like that it was 7-0. Vian kicked it off and we got a decent return to the 45 yard line. From there we starting throwing short pass plays and running the ball. Eventually Vian held us to 3rd down and 6. We had to throw now. "Green 56 right X" I whisper in the huddle. This play is designed for the two outside receivers to run post patterns and the two inside receivers to run slants. I look and saw that the the post was open
