As a student at Indiana University Northwest, I would like to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. As soon as students begin their high school careers, colleges are looking for who will meet the requirements set to be accepted into college. Tulsa Community College specifically requires current high school students to make a certain score on each section of the ACT so they may take college courses while still in high school. For that reason, I took the ACT for the first time just after my sophomore year, hoping to score high enough for concurrent enrollment. Being a concurrent student allows me to receive college credit so that I may have more time for sports or extracurricular activities when I am an actual college student. In Chapter 3, Mike Rose attends Loyola University to pursue a career in teaching. At first, he is placed into remedial classes because of his previous grades in high school. His high school teacher, Mr. MacFarland, wants Rose to test his capabilities in Loyola’s basic classes to ensure that he will be able to keep up with everyone else. Unfortunately, Rose struggles to pass his classes during his first year in Loyola. Service has always been a big part of my high school career. I have grown into the person I want to be, based on the service that I have done. With each service opportunity, I learn something new about myself and the world around me. One of the most meaningful service opportunities I have ever done was on Catholic Heart Work Camp, in Memphis Tennessee. I traveled to Memphis with a group from my youth group, to perform a week of service in poverty stricken areas in and around Memphis. Like any other education, college is important and allows us to explore and gain more experience about particular subjects. From starting a path to a successful career, to shaping a path for the future, college provides practice in social skills, academic skills, and provides career opportunities. To be a research and development scientist, a possible topic to major in is bioengineering or biology. Many colleges that provide good classes for biology and bioengineering are University of California - Berkeley (UC Berkeley), California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Central Oregon Community College, and California Institute of Technology (CalTech).

High School gave me a wide range of opportunity and opens my mind on what I can do with my life. However, the most important part of high school for me was taking agricultural classes thought-out high school, because it helps me realize that I want a career in the agriculture industry. I have lived in Mountain Grove, Missouri all my life. I attended all years of school in Mountain Grove. I enjoy living in a small town. My friends and I helped get a softball program in our high school, and I played on the team for one year. In High School, I did the A+ program and was able to receive my Associates Degree from MSU-WP at no cost (other than books and small fees). I work on the family farm and also at the college campus in Mountain Grove. I have worked at Shannon Hall for three years as a student worker helping other students with the computers. I am looking forward to the new opportunities in the next step in my life, college. I am one of those people that likes to really dig into a problem. When I don’t understand something, it challenges me and pushes me to work through it and overcome it. This applies to not only to my academics, but to everything in my life. As a freshman in high school, I weighed only 75 pounds, I was pretty small for my age. Knowing this would be difficult, my parents challenged me to join the high school wrestling team and I accepted. To explain, the lowest weight class is 106 pounds, I gave up over 30 pounds when I wrestled. While this seemed scary at first, I dug in, worked hard, and didn’t let my size slow me down. I never backed down from a challenge.

In high school, it is very important that students choose classes that gives them experiences in fields that could be their potential careers. High school is the time to get a feel of what is to come in the outside world. I have always been active, both in and out of the classroom. Throughout my years as a high school student, I've been involved with many activities such as baseball, various clubs and school programs, internships, and volunteer experiences. I continued to do the bare minimum required to pass each of my classes throughout my high school career. On my 15th birthday, my mother told me that I had finally reached the legal age to start working in the state of Georgia. She further explained that I must find a job so that I could establish independence and save money to purchase a vehicle when on my next birthday. Although I completely disagreed with my mother and felt that her requiring me to get a job was unfair, I wanted to make her proud and set a goal to purchase my very own car, with no financial help, when I turned 16.
