It has been tough gaining School experience, however; my old primary school was very nice in allowing me to shadow different teachers to see if teaching is the right career path for me. I previously gained work experience in a school 8 years ago nevertheless, things have changed intensely. Technology is swiftly changing and children often use laptops as well as interactive whiteboards to increase their development in learning. I have been trying to gain as much experience as possible however, due to work commitments, I have only been able to shadow teachers whilst I have taken holiday from my current job. Helping teachers in my old Primary school was fantastic as I was able to teach children the basics such as reading or spelling. I was set a task to determine how well children were reading and to make notes in their reading diaries to allow parents to see how well their child has developed. Whilst the children were reading I would help them voice certain words that they found tough. I also was in a year three class and the teacher set them a Maths task I was there to help and make notes in the book to help children develop. The teacher in that classroom explained to me that she has deliberately sat all mixed abilities across the classroom as children should be …show more content…
I have seen them progress to their full potential and I still help them. They have found learning during the weekend very helpful as they have been assured enough to ask me countless questions. Gaining school experience and helping family/friends has inspired me to apply for teacher training as I am currently retaking my GCSE Science to help me gain a C or above and have already passed my QTS for Literacy and Numeracy.
Overall, I feel that I have many skills which would inspire me to help young pupils develop. Gaining school work experience as well as gaining skills from the workplace has inspired me to make School an enjoyable place for children
For the past nine years I have been involved in a program called Jamestown Community Center, an after school enrichment program serving kindergarten through eighth grade students. I started out as a student in the program and became a teacher assistant as a highschool student. What got me into becoming a teacher assistant was seeing other high school teacher assistants be able to be strict with us, but at the same time be our friends. I admired their maturity at such a young age, and noticed how Jamestown was very supportive with each of the teacher assistants. Last year, I was assigned to be the teacher assistant to a first grade class who had just gotten a new teacher. I advised her to give the kids tasks in order to get the students to get
I have opportunities to work with students of all walks of life, Title I schools, high economic schools, inner city schools and all of the children have a drive to learn. Many of them are eager to participate with and and every activity that they are engaged in. For example, I was working with the Big Draw program that my college sponsors every year. We
My mindset on teaching before this assignment was directed solely on the children, although, once completing the week
I have committed myself to a journey of going back to school. It has been my dream to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. I was out of school for more than ten years since I was too busy helping my family financially. I was working two jobs to support my family here in the U.S and in the Philippines. When I met my girlfriend she made me realized that I need to make time and worry about myself because I always worry about other people.
You have just finished middle school. If your middle school experience was anything like mine, it was probably one of the most awkward experiences of your life. Also, at that point in my life, starting middle school was by far one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. It was a new school, a new environment, and a whole bunch of new people. But then as I finished up middle school, that meant it was time to start a big, huge, scary, mysterious, and intimidating thing also known as high school. Which is what you’re going to start soon as well. But I’m here today to explain to you that high school isn’t as scary and tough as you think it is. Now, you don’t want to judge how your high school experience will go just on how the first day goes. I
For as long as I can remember, working with kids has impacted the way I would like to create change. Working with 4th grade students at the Rafael Hernandez School made me realize how much I loved helping students, watching their faces glow up when they understood their work. I assisted them with homework help and came up with fun activities that would help them gain essential skills like teamwork. We played games like the Human Knot, where kids had to work together and communicate with each other in order to untie themselves. As a student, I know how important it is to have someone as a tutor or a mentor. This experience helped me acquire a leadership role in my community and allowed me to give back to the school that raised me. This experience
Currently I'm helping out at a local primary school, which has allowed me to see new side to teaching that I didn't know existed. I was asked to prepare an activity that involved teaching different skills in one task. I had to think out the box and came up with making paper mache doughnuts, it was a fun, messy but ultimately it taught the children to think innovatively for themselves, it brought out their creative skills, taught them about 3D dimensions, colours and shapes. To think something as easy as paper mache could give these children a variety of knowledge in one task, is unbelievable. It makes me look at life in another light, to see if has a double learning opportunity. It is the simple things, like talk time in class that are highly important as the children are not only learning from the teacher, but they absorb information from others and build on that knowledge to feel confident enough to share their thoughts, it's absolutely fascinating to see how a child's mind works and what they can contribute to the class, without them realising they are actually learning.
For the past two summers in high school, I volunteered for Asian exchange students transitioning to American school life for three weeks in Colorado. As a volunteer, my duties consisted of helping the exchange students become more experienced with American school life, such as high school events, American traditions, social life, and academics. This experience was unique because I was introduced to an entirely foreign culture and was expected to relate to students who had grown up in a different culture, experienced different school lives, and had different ideas and values.
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind” -Dr Seuss. This quote reflects my high school journey because it helps me choose which people are less likely to bring me down in the long run.
Going into my senior year I realized I could not imagine this year without the influence of theatre. Performing on stage is where I came to the self-realization that instead of choosing a career in medicine, I need to be involved in the entertainment industry for the rest of my life. Being directed by inspiring adults and their visions, developing friendships, and learning valuable life lessons is where I have grown and achieved more than in any academic class. Being a performer on the Bradford High School stage is where I found myself.
I’m primarily focused on volunteering at a local middle school, West Cary Middle School, for after school tutoring to kids who are in need of a little extra help with any of their school subjects. This is something that I’m very passionate about and have done since my junior year of high school and aim to continue doing throughout college. One of the goals of the after school tutoring program is to help children that are a little behind in their school work to catch up with their classmates on materials such as reading, homework, and lesson concepts. Another goal is to re-explain a lesson a child might have not quite understood in the classroom or provide a little extra clarification that is needed on a subject. It’s also a goal of the program to have a mentor who not only helps
It was a friday evening football season was getting ready to start up again. I loved going to the football games and mingling with my classmates. It also meant that school was getting ready to start back up and I would be “fresh meat” as everybody call the new upcoming freshman. I was excited to be around new people in a new environment from middle school. Also a little nervous but who wouldn’t be nervous starting high school.
Being in public education for twelve years and doing well, enabled me to have the experience of graduation from High School. There were two unique aspects to this experience. One was which I was able to reach my goal of becoming the valedictorian— there were five of us at Arvada West. The other aspect that made this situation unique was the fact that I was able to attend my high school graduation. Six weeks before the semester ended, I was hit by a car and was in the hospital having suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. There was a point in time where they thought that I would have disabilities, and I would never reach the level I was at before. However, I overcame a lot of adversities.
If you ask my parents about me they will say that I am talkative, loud, sometimes shy, and of course a little obnoxious. I had my parents answer five questions about me and their high school experiences. The first question was: What do you see as your child's greatest strengths or skills overall? My dad wrote “ Gabbie is a very determined individual. Even though things don’t always come easy for her, she tries over and over again, until she’s got it. “.My mom wrote “ Gabbie is kind, caring, and compassionate. She is always willing to help others and has a big heart. She is dedicated and puts all her effort into accomplishing challenges. “ . Question number two was: What do you hope your child says about his/her experience in school this year? My dad wrote “ I hope that Gabbie learns skills that she can take out into the work field. Although, I want her to have fun and make memories. “ . My mom wrote “ My hope is that Gabbie says that her freshman year of high school is full of learning experiences, life lessons, and unforgettable. “. The third question was : What was your experience like in high school? My dad wrote “ I couldn’t wait until school got out and hang out with my friends. I thought school was about what group you were with and I later found out that wasn’t important. “ . My mom wrote “ I was part of a very small class in high school. We were a very close class and we also had great relationships with our teachers. I have
“Welcome to the secondary campus!” from a teacher I was unfamiliar with. It was the first day of sixth grade, and I was entering a brand new school for my middle school years. I was confidently wearing my new pink Hollister collared shirt and a pair of all white Nike kicks. It was the first time my mother had ever let me get shoes with white soles, because I was prone to getting sneakers dirty. I had a lesser likelihood of that this year, because unfortunately we no longer had recess, which previously had stained any shoe of mine from the mulch.
