The high school years seem to fly by and this year is no different. As we enter into fourth marking period, it is nice to look back and reflect on all that your children have accomplished. The transition from middle school to high school is not an easy one, for the student or the parents. We hope that we helped to make it a bit easier for them. Thank you for your support throughout the school
Transitioning from middle school to high school now college. Hardships and victories I have experienced it all. I have gone from the shy student to one of the most involved and active student in my school.
Middle school to high school is a big jump from not only school to school but also new people coming into our school, harder academics, sports are now a part of your school life, and a jump from school to school. My thoughts on high school have really changed over the past few weeks. When I first realized that we we're going to be in high school shortly, I got a little freaked out. Although I know alot of high schoolers and specific people that go to West I still feel overwhelmed by the fact that i'm going from a 600 person school to a 1,200+ person school. For the longest time I felt if high school would be the hardest part of my life and getting accustomed to the new setting would be hard for me, I thought the people there we're mean and
In life we will encounter difficult situations and we must learn to adapt to changes and embrace opportunities. My transition from middle to high school was a difficult and intense period of growth in my life. As I reflect on the experience, I remember making several important decisions for embracing this transition. I assessed the situation to determine my expectations for my life, my best interest and my approach to this transition to meet my personal and academic goals. This transition was difficult primarily because I was in a new environment which posed personal and academic challenges. I embraced the opportunity and purposed to make the best of the academic experience and my development from middle to high school student preparing for
Transitioning from the middle school to the high school is a big change for a student. When we moved to the high school, we thought freshman Friday's would be all year and that it would be very difficult to find our classes. However, freshman Friday's only last the first couple weeks, and there are lots of link leaders to help the freshies find their classes. School is a big deal here in the high school. 8th graders should follow our tips if they want to be successful in the high school.
There is a certain potent quality to the transition between middle and high school; many make it through this transition. I apparently, wasn’t good enough for that transition, and I didn’t get in. I also didn’t even apply for the spot, so this not getting in thing made no sense to me on the first day. However, later on, I discovered that it mattered a lot more than I had first thought. Mostly because it basically sealed my fate for the rest of my life. Suffice to say, I am the single unluckiest person in this whole school. Unrivaled by anyone, I win the nonexistent title by a landslide every single year. And I absolutely hate it. But don’t be mistaken, it’s not that I don’t enjoy being alone, I absolutely do, it’s just that they constantly tease me for it like I actually care. And everyone should know by now that I don’t care. Aside from school, I really have no reason to unhappy. But that’s just it, I am always unhappy. And maybe that’s why the kids at school pick on me so much. Either way, life has dealt me a pretty pathetic deck of cards. And today is no different from any other day, it’s exactly the same. I wake up with a frown on my face, completely and perpetually uninterested in every little thing that I have to do that morning. I weave around my family, all bustling and happy, half-asleep and all smiles. And then I drive to school. A school surrounded by trees and fog. It was as gloomy as my mind was. And so I get out of my car. And then I go to class. And then the
Transitioning has always been a difficult for me. My freshmen year of high school experiences varied from disappointment, to complete chaos. Freshmen year of high school is tough, you worked yourself to the top to be placed in the bottom again. Not to mention middle school and high school are two different types of environments. I was aware that they were two different types of environments, so when my middle school offered a summer course at Carl Hayden High School I took the opportunity to help me adjust. The course was a reading comprehension class, I did not need help with my reading comprehension but took it to get a feel of how high school would be. Judging high school by one course was ignorant of me to do. From that short experience
An additional life changing experience such as a school transition can cause more distress in the students’ lives (Blythe et al., 1983; Gonzales et al., 2004). Low income underrepresented students are two times as likely in reading, and three times in mathematics, to underachieve when compared to their wealthier peers (National Assessment of Educational Progress, 2005). Researchers have shown that these students’ academic achievement in reading and mathematics declined after transitioning to middle school (Alspaugh & Harting, 1995; Midgley et al., 2002). Ultimately, transitioning from elementary to middle school can result in negative academic and societal outcomes for low income disadvantaged students during and beyond middle school if
Transitioning from elementary or middle school to high school can be a new experience with chaos. If one is entering a humongous school that has two separate buildings, as known as south and north. There are many problems and skills that will be helpful for one to survive successfully in high school. As I have been in high school for almost five years, I want my future juniors to not make mistakes that I made during transitioning to high school.
We didn’t get here on our own. That is why we thank our classmates, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators for supporting us throughout this journey. Most importantly, I thank and glorify God for giving us endless opportunities. I hope tonight is a night to remember because it marks the start of something new. After tonight, we gotta go our own ways because high school wasn’t meant to last forever. Right here, right now, it’s time to break free from dress code and standardized tests. As we go our separate ways, let us continue to support one another. I know our teachers are still here to help, whether with college coursework or advice for our futures. We can step into the world confidently because we have solid
It was the first month of my high school years, I was as nervous as an incoming freshman could be. I had no idea how long and strenuous my years at Bensalem High School would feel. As many others, I had a hard time adjusting to the transition from middle school to high school. Unlike others, though, I struggled about twenty
For some, the transition from middle school into high-school can be drastic change in scenery and environment. People have different ways in getting ahead and learning. Those things might be to have good time management, good note taking skills, and amazing concentration considering the things that can go on in a classroom while the teacher is teaching or giving instruction.
Secondary transition is the process that provide students with special education services for post-school living. The services are provided by the IEP team in partnership with the student and family during the ages of 16 through 21 and sometimes even younger. The areas of service that can be provide to the student include instruction (classes), community involvements opportunities, an employment and post-school adult living plan, and learning living skills and vocational skills when appropriate.
Like any other transition in your life, you encounter changes. Going from elementary school to middle school made you a cool kid, and from middle school to high school, you could do whatever you wanted. But from high school to college, it is not what you become, it is you are striving to become. Professor Johnson’s American Government class at Valencia Community College pushes them to form better study habits, to realize the value of attending class, and to set goals for themselves.
My senior year has been one of transition. I feel like I am wrapping up college, and my classes are like the “lose ends” that I have to take care of before I move on to the next phase of my life. Although, I somewhat approach my classes as a checklist, I also am very invested in getting good grades. I have the intent to go to Law school therefore I need to be intentional with my grades and the effort that I put into how I spend my time. Which is why I think I struggle in this class. There is an intentionality to being a good student, that makes it easy to go through the motions but in this class there is an emphasis on our intentions of our intention of being a student. To me there are some things that don’t need to be meaningful and have a
The transition from middle to high school is an important time socially and academically for adolescents. As stated by Wheelock and Miao (2005), the bottleneck of student enrolled in ninth grade is concerning. This mixed methods study focused on academic, procedural, and social components of the transition activities in one Connecticut suburban town from middle to high school. Included are the completion of a ninth grade student survey (N = 154), a ninth grade parent/guardian survey (N = 128), and three focus groups, two of ninth grade students (N = 12) and one of ninth grade teachers (N = 12). The academic outcomes included academic preparedness and student achievement. Stakeholders believe that students are not prepare students for the academic
