Devastation is the main word to sum up the day the first Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Countless either dead or heavily injured from immediate effects or after effects. Japanese and Americans shocked by the surprise damaged caused by the nuclear weapon. A blanket of silence fell across the battlefield as the aftermath became clear. Dropping the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima to end World War II was completely unnecessary and the bomb should have never been created.
The nuclear bombing all started with the attack on pearl harbor. Prior before the bomb, Japanese military leaders fought on whether to use naval ships or airplanes to attack the harbor. Finally, airplanes were finalized for the attack and the Japanese pilots trained all spring.
On August 6, 1945 the United States deployed the first atomic bomb over Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Once the United States dropped the atomic bomb there has been a lot of comments whether or not it was the right move to do. I believe that it was justified for the United States to drop the atomic bomb on Japan however, it did have some cons to it. The reason behind dropping the first atomic bomb was to stop the war. Although it roughly killed around 60,00 people in Hiroshima and 35,000 in Nagasaki. If they didn’t drop that bomb the war could have claimed more lives than the atomic bomb dropping.
The process of this investigation has revealed to me, the significance of different methods and limitations that historians experience when carrying out studies. When researching past history, authors are able to use hindsight to either enhance or hinder their writing. This was evident through the use of my secondary sources, particularly the analysis of the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima by Taketo Suzuki. I was introduced to the difficulty of gaining accurate and reliable information on an event that is certainly open to question. Since Suzuki is a part of Japan’s Research Center, there are a plethora of sources that are available to him. Although this may seem as great benefit, the challenge comes from careful fact selection.
I think it was necessary to drop the atomic bomb to end World War II because it would end the war earlier and stop the potential deaths of hundreds of thousands. Although critics state that the estimated casualties of the home island invasion are exaggerated, I do not agree with their assessment. Japan had millions of troops on the home islands along with millions of potentially armed civilians. The Japanese had a sheer devotion to their homeland and they were willing to fight to the death. Along with the invasion of Okinawa and its high casualty count, the invasion of Japan would create an enormous amount of death for both sides. In addition to the bombing of civilian targets, prolonging the war would definitely result in a higher death count.
What other options (if any) did the United States have (other than dropping the Atomic Bomb) to ensure that Japan would surrender without having to mount a full invasion?
The U.S. dropped an A-Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945 and another on Nagasaki, Japan 3 days later. The Japanese Army and Government already knew they were going to lose the war, but they didn’t want to surrender immediately because they feared having harsh punishments and reparations like those of the Treaty of Versailles. Sure, there could have been other options that might not have as many deaths, but there is no guarantee that there would be success in ending the war. Historians on the opposing side of this debate say that there were too many Japanese civilian deaths and that the Japanese didn’t kill as many American civilians. This may be true but if the US would have used plan B which could have been a large invasion similar to D-Day, more casualties would have been caused. The U.S. made a great decision to drop the Atomic Bombs to end World War Two.
On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped the first ever atomic bomb on Japan, which effectively ended World War II. The dropping of this atomic bomb was a momentous event in history. The decision to drop the atomic bomb has been analyzed as to why it was necessary, how it impacted morality, and also a question that had arisen was: if the United States was in a situation to do it again, would they drop more atomic bombs? The governments reason as to why the bombs were dropped was that they were the swiftest way to end the war and save millions of lives that could have been lost if the war raged on, but some think the United States dropped them in large part to intimidate the Soviet Union. Why did the United States build the atomic bomb
A total of 185,000 to 209,000 people died in the combined bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (www.historyextra.com) In august 1945, president Truman dropped two atomic bombs on Japan in an effort to end the war. A lot of people just think that because we won the war, it was a good decision, but it wasn’t really. First of all the dropping of the bomb was immoral. Secondly, we could’ve won in a different way. Lastly it started a war with Russia because they saw what the atomic bomb was capable of.
The atomic bombing of Japan was not a military necessity, in order to save lives of thousands of americans and get japan to surrender. The bomb was a nuclear weapon which had long term effects on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The weapon was radioactive and created mass destruction, it was a cruel weapon to use against other human beings. The definition of military necessity is to do whatever is necessary in order to bring an enemy to submission excluding the use of cruelty, torture, and poison; the atomic bomb contradicts the meaning of military necessity, so I think it was not a military necessity. The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unnecessary, since even before the bombing, japan was already weak and would have surrendered anyways to the united states.
We make decisions every single day of our life. Some of our decision are minor, some of them are major, and only a few are life threatening. If you were placed into a life or death situation, do you know how you would react? Would you give in and accept your losses; stand neutral until you are forced to decide; or be the aggressor and defend yourself without a second thought. President Truman understood that the bomb would inflict damage and casualties beyond imagination.
The dropping of the atomic weapons in Hiroshima and Nagaski, ordered by President Harry S. Truman, were completely necessary to ensure a speedy end to the war while saving many lives that would have otherwise been taken, had the battle continued. The atomic bombs, also known as Fat Man and Little Boy, were dropped in Japan in the summer of 1945. To this day, The United States stands as the only nation to have used a nuclear weapon on another nation. A single atomic bomb can reduce a city and its population to dust. Although the bombings were inhumane and had negative effects that were unavoidable, the nature of war is catastrophic and human lives are taken nonetheless. What was to be decided was whether these deaths should be of the Japanese
On sunny day in August in 1945, the lives of Hiroshima citizens changed forever. While doing day to day activities, an American B-29 was heard from up above, when seconds later their whole world was unbearably white and red. The town immediately started to decay as people were lying on the roads, dying, and if citizens were able to stay alive, they had no home to go back to. This horrible scenario was the result of the United States decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima (Japan) during World War II. In 1945, President Truman agreed and approved of the dropping of the bomb while with historians today, not everyone is on the same page. Some historians may agree with this hefty decision to drop the bomb, others believe
On the morning of August 6th, 1945 the Enola Gay dropped the first atom bomb nicknamed the “Little Boy” on Hiroshima killing 45,000 people instantly and also more deaths due to radiation. And three days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing thousands of more people. America shouldn't have dropped the bomb for many reason and they're becuase it is inhumane to kill thousands of innocent civilians when Japan's Military was crumbling. This leads me to my next argument that since their military was crumbling you can assume they were going to surrender soon because they wouldn't have much left if they didn't. And finally the bombs were dropped on cities with little industrial zones and they were on the outskirts of the town.
Human rights are universal and inalienable. It is so important that the rights of every individual on this planet are upheld that human rights abuses are the focus of 2015’s Amnesty International Student Conference.
