[Date] Structure Fires Involving Hoarders
Fires present a massive hazard in urban areas, where there is proximity of buildings and dwelling units can greatly increase the likelihood of a fire spreading beyond control. In urban environments, structure fires account for the majority of fire loss, both in terms of property and people living. Even though hoarding personal items increases the chances for fire safety hazards to the people occupying a house, neighbors, and emergency personnel. This has grown to be a long-established problem in predominant cities of the world with growing older population. Hoarding fires, which typically involves aged individuals, requires a lot better allocation of assets than typical residential fires (Mutzabaugh, 2015).

Furthermore, public education about hoarding would increase referrals to treatment programs and help cut back the dangers posed by hoarding. One approach of public education is by way of informational brochures (Mutzabaugh, 2015).
Compulsive hoarding includes the acquisition, and failure to discard, tremendous quantities of possessions which culminates within the interference with daily living activities. It is a little-studied disorder, with just a few worldwide authorities investigating its causes, treatments, and symptoms. The piling of used things and food stuffs in a house can be unhealthy, due to collection of dust, rodents debris and molds. More so such dumped items block people from easy access to the room and this may add to a problem in case of an emergency for a burning building to be speedily evacuated (Mutzabaugh,
In making the decisions to protect people’s lives from hazards and disasters, evacuations sometimes become necessary. Of course early in the reaction to the incident, or the response phase, this may become a decision for local and state emergency managers. The San Diego, California wildfire which occurred in October 2007 caused a large scale evacuation. This essay is an analysis, and identification of lessons learned from the evacuation incident. As well a plan of personal recommendations and improvements will be made based on information covered in the National Housing strategy, and Robert Stafford Act.
The word hoarding was originally used to describe the behavior of animals storing food for future use, and then moved into use as a descriptor of human behavior. There are also different types of hoarders. These include Clinical compulsive hoarding, OCD or perfectionist hoarding, animal
Individuals accumulate large numbers of items hat fill up and clutter active living areas to the extent that their intended use is no longer possible (2014). We see examples of this disorder by the mountains of containers of Chinese take-out and pizza boxes and the way he stores the mutilated remains of his victims in Tupperware containers. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder was ruled out because didn’t display obsessions or compulsions
During preschool Lily Cate and I will draw pictures of items that belong in the trash and discuss that dirty, unsafe items are placed in there.
Getting rid of squirrels is a real problem. To be successful depends on a few things. First, from where do you want to get rid of them? Are they in your attic, your yard, your house, or where?

A burn is a type of injury to skin, or other tissues, caused by heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. Most burns are due to heat from hot liquids, solids, or fire. While rates are similar for males and females the underlying causes often differ. When the injury extends into some of the underlying skin layer, it is a partial-thickness or second-degree burn. The burn is often black and frequently leads to loss of the burned part. Burns are generally preventable. Treatment depends on the severity of the burn. Tetanus toxoid should be given if not up to date. In the United States, approximately 96% of those admitted to a burn center survive their injuries. The long-term outcome is related to the size of burn and the
Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate, Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it.
I Personally think that shunning still exists today due to the fact of people believing there higher than others and can make them aside just as they please but to think there humans just like them. Shunning is basically putting aside someone such as a kid in the group just doesn’t fit in, too fat, too ugly, too poor, too smart, too nerdy, too whatever or an other simple terms, some people just do not get along with each other and the shunning begins. Most of shunning tends to begin in school for which in the bad side can continue for a major part in their life.
What does giving back mean to me? To me it means to give something back to someone no matter what it is but to give back to those who helped you throughout anything. Giving back is just another way of saying thank you and it's also a respectful thing. It also shows that you care and it gives you a good reputation.
Hoarding has been associated with health risks, impairment in functioning, and economic burden (e.g. see Diefenbach, DiMauro, Frost, Steketee & Tolin, 2013). Hoarding has been related to increased occupational impairment, such as cluttered work environment, increased psychiatric work impairment days, and an elevated risk of employment termination (Tolin, Frost, Steketee, Gray & Fitch, 2008a). Hoarders and their family members are approximately three times as likely to be overweight or obese, more likely to report an increased range of chronic and severe medical issues, and used mental health services five times more often than the general population (Tolin et al., 2008a). Hoarding has also been linked with family distress, strained relationships, and dysfunction (Tolin, Frost, Steketee & Fitcha, 2008b). Moreover, non-hoarding children who experienced a severely cluttered environment during early childhood have been associated with increased childhood distress, such as difficulty making friends, reduced social contact in the home, less happiness, and embarrassment about the condition of the home (Tolin et al., 2008b). Furthermore, hoarding has been linked to increased risk of fire, falls, poor hygiene, infestation, and eviction (Diefenbach et al., 2013;
FireCast is an algorithm integrated in a program called the Risked Based Inspection System (RBIS) and in used in New York since 2013 to compute the risks of a fire in a building and create lists of the properties to inspect in priority. The version 2.0 of this system gathers data from 5 city agencies, and uses 60 fire risks factors to assess the risk for each of the 330’000 buildings of the city.(http://www.nfpa.org/news-and-research/publications/nfpa-journal/2014/november-december-2014/features/in-pursuit-of-smart ). In contrast to Firebird, FireCast 2.0 is not an open-source framework, hence there is no scientific publication, no code accessible and very little communications about the results. Since the deployment, 16.5% of the
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today’s fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very
