The artist is trying to show how homeless people are literally sinking in homelessness. The man is the focal point of the picture, he is where the eye is first drawn. He is lying, half slumped against a glass windowed storefront on the charcoal colored sidewalk. He is caucasian, it’s almost hard to tell because of the dirt abiding on his face. He has greyish hair that goes down to his shoulders, accompanied by a greyish white beard that almost reaches his chest. He is wearing a grey long sleeved shirt, with a brown jacket. His hands are wrapped in black gloves that only cover his palms. His jeans are half brown with dirt. One leg isalsomt completely in the sidewalk, showing how homelessness is becoming even more of an issue than before. His shoes are like that of the gloves, almost half socks that do not cover his toes, only the soles. Next to him is “luggage”with various patterns. The man is holding a beer can in his right hand. This is the most astounding part of the picture. It shows how most homeless people are seen by the media and people who are not informed about the issue. Some people are afraid to give money because of the stigma placed on them. This is also where the theory that all homeless people have chosen this lifestyle, while that may be true for some, the majority of people do not choose to live in poverty. To

Sociologists who study and research homelessness have argued over its formal definition for decades, though for some, the definition of homelessness seems self explanatory and obvious. The paper will examine homelessness, particularly as a sociological issue, or a social issue seen from a sociological perspective. The paper will additionally reference sociological theory as a means of explanation for homelessness, such its causes, the demographics/populations, and other prominent known characteristics of homeless people. There are individuals and groups who choose to be, from a normative societal perspective, homeless, but for a great deal of the homeless population, it can be a treacherous and tragic lifestyle that is a result of a distinct set of social, societal, and individual factors.
What do people think of homelessness? People think that they are people who can’t get a job and are too lazy to work.Seeing people on the streets, some yelling at others, some sleeping on the ground with no roof over their head, digging in the recycle to get as many bottles they can for money.Imagine living on the streets with not much food to spare or and love to spread, just concrete maybe a cardboard and a small blanket is all homeless will have. We can do so much more to help them. We can give them food drives, make apartments for them, get the education they need and so much more! It would be like having a baby born and teaching its way to a good life. Homelessness is a big global problem and we can solve it just by donating, caring, volunteering, and helping the whole world become a better place and having fantastic lives. This paper will discuss about homelessness, it will be discovered in it’s history, effects, and solutions.
Homelessness in America has existed for some time now, but has grown and changed majorly over the years since the 1980’s. According to Mary Hombs, “the prevailing stereotype of a homeless person was that of a middle-aged white urban male alcoholic” (6). But now there is no stereotype because homelessness could happen to anyone at any moment, so that is why it important to be aware. Though the population of homeless people tends to be higher in developing countries, it is still a concern in developed nations. Homelessness is a state where someone lacks regular shelter. “Homeless is more than being without a home. It is tied into education needs, food, security; health issues both mental and physical, employment issues, etc. Don’t forget the whole picture.” (“Boxed In” 2005 pg. 108)
Homelessness is portrayed as circumstances of people or family units without steady, uninterrupted, proper lodging, or the quick prospect, means and capacity of getting it. It is the aftereffect of universal or public obstructions, an absence of reasonable and suitable lodging, the individual/family unit 's money related, mental, cognitive, behavioral or physical difficulties, and/or bigotry and segregation. A majority of individuals don 't decide to be dispossessed, and the occurrence is usually negative, unsavory, upsetting and troubling
Cities increasingly grapple with homelessness, while facing budget cuts to various services, but the failure to tackle homelessness creates more problems. While there are homeless people who are on drugs, some are there because housing is expensive and they have no reliable sources of income. Homelessness may result in the city spending more on welfare in a never ending cycle without finding a solution to homelessness. There are various factors associated with the risk of homelessness, including individual factors like those fleeing domestic abuse, and even those who can longer earn a living because of health conditions and disabilities. The problem of homelessness is further compounded when the homeless suffer mental health issues and alcohol or drug dependence (Benston, 2015). Homelessness is a problem that affects even the youth, and stakeholders ought to work together to tackle the problem, as city officials, and residents are the audience who should be concerned with the problem at the local level.
In my eyes, there are several things wrong with this picture and it does not fit all the aspects of homelessness that one experiences. The first issue
The population of homeless people is on the rise with people struggling to make ends meet, but Lars Eighner sheds some light on his experience and gives the reader a different outlook on his situation. He describes his lifestyle in a way where his emotions do not come through and where people do not feel pity nor negativity towards him. Eighner draws the reader in by making his tale a narrative, and somewhat of a guide on the how to's of dumpster diving. He is very successful in making the reader feel as if they are there, in the dumpster with him; Eighner hooks his readers with many literary techniques including imagery, anecdotes, analogy and many rhetorical strategies.
Homelessness is an arising problem within the United States. Poverty and homelessness are inheritably linked. As children we were raised to believe that through hard work and determination that we could accomplish anything. We all had dreams of having nice cars, a nice home and lots of money, however this is impossible when a person is living pay check to pay check and close to being homeless. Knowing that we live in the “land of opportunity” brings many dreams to anyone’s mind, however, many families are experiencing financial issues that are causing them to become homeless because they cannot afford to live and pay their bills, food, child care, health care and education (National Coalition of the homeless, 2007). Walking through the city of Chicago many people can be seen holding signs for money. From crosswalk to crosswalk they are seen but no direct eye contact is made. The homeless people living on the streets are often assumed to be those fired from a job for valid reasons. For instance, many assume them to be either drug or alcohol addicts. However this is not always the case; many of them may have had problems within their family. They might have been rejected from their home. Children who do not receive love from their families and deal with conflict turn to the outside world for help. These kids run away looking for at least someone to show them acceptance. The loving help that they desire is not found, so helpless and homeless they become.
his piece of socially responsible street art was created by an Australian artist named Meek. He stenciled this powerful image on a wall and while technically illegal, it has an important message. Giving a homeless person some spare change can help them in the short term by providing some food, or even cause harm if the person buys drugs with the money. The artist’s point is that fundamental political and social change is necessary to solve this problem. During the recession, homelessness is only getting worse with the lack of jobs and high foreclosure rate. Without concerted efforts by governments and private organizations, millions of people around the world will continue to live day to day without adequate housing.
Logically, one would assume that whoever made this photo did not mind making fun on those who are not immune to such detrimental conditions, such as homelessness. In support of this claim, I will manipulate a photo dating back
