Hamlet is thinking about killing himself, but he is trying to kill Claudius. He is trying to escape despair and lies from Claudius. If hamlet kills himself he will not be sent to heaven he will be sent to the underworld. Hamlet thinks it is an eternal sleep when you are dead. He is trying to kill Claudius but he failed the first time and he explained what he did to his father the old king of demark. Horatio tells hamlet about the ghost of hamlet’s father. His friends are his loyal servant’s treat him like a great prince. “Today’s prince, tomorrow king.” His friends care about hamlet and they don’t want hamlet to get weird and crazy about his father. “To be or not to be that is the question.” “Suicide will cause you dearly.”
In William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, Shakespeare stresses the conflict between the play’s protagonist, Hamlet, and the antagonist, King Claudius. One prime example of the conflict between Hamlet and King Claudius comes from act three scene three. In addition, Hamlet has a conflict within himself in terms of determining the best course of action of committing murder on King Claudius. At this point of the play, King Claudius makes the confession of killing Hamlet’s father and is praying. While King Claudius makes his confession, Hamlet contemplates whether or not to kill King Claudius while he is praying. Shakespeare includes interesting diction, imagery, and tone that illustrates exactly what Hamlet is thinking when he is about to avenge his fallen father.
Hamlet is grieving the recent passing of his father and to make it worse he wants to just commit suicide because he doesn’t want to live anymore he wants to be something pure like dew. Yet Hamlet decides not to as
In the revenge play ‘The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark’ by William Shakespeare, Hamlet has one true confidant that sticks to his side for his entire life. Some believe that Hamlet’s confidante, Horatio, is insignificant to the play’s development. However, it is undeniable that Horatio is the one true friend that is full of compassion and composure in all of his appearances. He foreshadows events and follows his gut instinct when facing a predicament. Although he has a confident feeling about right and wrong, Horatio ultimately succumbs to Hamlet’s desires. Horatio loves Hamlet, and expresses his friendship through honesty and compassion, without expecting anything, such as praise, in return. Without Horatio’s humbleness, guidance, and love, Hamlet may have died much earlier, and the play would not have had a character who lived for the best interest of his or her best friend.
Hamlet and Claudius both have many needs which are determined by a part of their psyche: the id. One major desire is for the throne of Denmark. Hamlet has repetitive lapses of angst which are based on the fact that Claudius robbed Hamlet of his rightful crown. As Hamlet says “I lack advancement” (Shakespeare, 3.2.324), “Popped in between th’ election and my hopes” (Shakespeare, 5.2.70); these are just a few of the times when Hamlet sees Claudius as someone between him and the crown of Denmark. Claudius’ desire for being king; this is more perceptible as his greed lead to an “offence [that] is rank” (Shakespeare, 3.3.39): the murder of his brother. Hamlet’s need for the crown and Claudius’ position as an obstacle create the dramatic situations that lead to the tension between them. Hamlet wants the throne, but Claudius has made it impossible as he has already declared Hamlet as the heir to the kingdom, therefore giving Hamlet no basis of argument making him powerless in this way. As Hamlet has the dominance behavioral system syndrome, he lacks a way out of this submissive role where his power and pride are hurt. He thus instigates the conflict by reacting to and talking to Gertrude in a provocative manner and insulting Claudius. The fact that he treats Gertrude badly is because he is also looking for something to vent his anger out on.
While his father was still alive, Hamlet’s ambitions were to be the heir to the throne and to continue his family’s legacy. Hamlet is robbed of his hopes and dreams for the future when Claudius murders his father. After the ghost of Hamlet Sr. approaches Hamlet about vengeance for his death, Hamlet’s lack of any sense of identity forces him to make an impossible decision; adhere to his father’s orders and obtain revenge, or take the morally correct road and let God decide Claudius’s fate. Hamlet’s lack of sense of self causes him to remain inactive on this matter. Because of Hamlet’s refusal to take any action and avenge his father’s death, he is unable to ‘find himself’ early on.
In William Shakespeare's play Hamlet the reader is presented with a handful of characters, all of which have their own emotions and different reactions to different scenarios. The main character in Hamlet is of course Hamlet, the prince of Denmark who comes to find from the ghost of his father that his father was murdered by Hamlet’s uncle. Hamlet is incredibly intelligent and is very melancholy as seen in his reaction to his father's death and murder. Hamlet sometimes hesitates to do things, then other times acts on the spot making him unpredictable. Then we have Horatio, who in the end is the only character left standing. Horatio is first heard from in act one, scene one talking to the guards outside the castle about a ghost of the late
Hamlet in this scene is considering killing himself and is having thoughts about death. He is wondering if he should live and pass all the hardship life gives him or if he should just die to end those sufferings. Seeing how hamlet has this strange personality where he changes his thoughts every minute it may describe why he is considering death. This also merges in with Claudius. Hamlet knows that if he chooses to kill Claudius ot only will he be the prime suspect for his murder but might end up in hell for murdering a human being. Hamlet is confused whether he is ready to take another person life and is able to move with his life. I don’t think hamlet will kill himself instead I predict that hamlet will choose to live the earthly way and
Throughout the novel, as Hamlet starts to discover more and more of the truth his emotions start spinning out of control there sometimes unpredictable. Hamlet didn't so much agree with his uncle taking his father's place and considering him as his father he felt disrespected and didn't try to hide his true feelings. “A little more than kin and a less than kind” (Act 1, scene 2, page 25). This quote shows that hamlet did not mind telling Claudius that he was uncomfortable with him trying to play the father role and he was far from it. This scene set the tone on how hamlet views the relationship of his uncle trying to become his father figure. Hamlet wants relief on seeing his father for the last time so he will do anything. “I do not set my life at a pin’s fee. And for a soul” (Act 1, scene 4, page 53). In this quote it show a little of hamlet's emotions that's running through his body he feels as if his life is hopeless and doesn't care about if the ghost is his father or not because of his disbelief of his father sudden death he believes that it was certain his father's he had to see it himself even with the shouts of Horatio's
Firstly, Hamlet Jr. best known for being a scholar alongside his good friend, Horatio, is looking more and more like a madman ever since his father’s death. Before the person resembling the late King appeared to him in the form of a ghost, Hamlet Jr. had a lot of hostility towards Claudius, even more after the ghost proclaimed to him that his father, Hamlet Sr., was in fact murdered. Deep down Hamlet Jr. knew that his father did not die from natural causes, but was unsure of how to proceed with what to do about it so his doubts of that being true just made him even more paranoid and an even bigger procrastinator. Especially, when in the play Hamlet Jr. went to tell Gertrude about the news that he was informed about his father’s not so accidental
This will keep people from choosing death because of the unknown. The whole soliloquy compares the two extremes, life and death. Hamlet thoroughly analyzes both situations and considers the consequence of both. He decided against killing himself, he knew that God would not accept his suicide and he didn’t know what would be in store for his after life. Hamlet is upset because of his mother's marriage to Claudius but especially how quickly they got married about the death of his father. He is constantly expressing his hate and angry toward Claudius while he praises his father and says how great of a king he was. Suicide is a major recurring theme found in the play and Hamlet finds himself considering it.
To start with, a few people in Hamlet are genuine even though most of them are self-centered. Instead of going to King Claudius about the ghost of King Hamlet, Horatio breaks the news to Prince Hamlet. He starts the greeting casually, and agrees with Shakespeare that the wedding was too soon after King Hamlet’s funeral. Later, Horatio brings up the ghost after Hamlet talks about his father (33). That way, it is not as shocking to Hamlet. Horatio worries about Hamlet and sees him as a good friend, so he is there whenever Hamlet needs him. Later, when King Hamlet’s ghost appears, Horatio refuses to let Hamlet follow the ghost. Hamlet still goes after the ghost, so Horatio (with Marcellus) follows Hamlet to watch out for him. Horatio keeps the ghost a secret after Hamlet makes him swear not to tell anyone else and keeps his promise throughout the play (62-69). Since he respects Hamlet, he keeps his promise during the whole play. Also, Horatio warns Hamlet not to fight Laertes because he will lose if he does (271). Regrettably, Horatio ends up beside Hamlet when he gets killed. Hamlet trusts Horatio to share the message to Fortinbras that he is the new King of Denmark. Then, when Hamlet dies, Horatio honors him by saying, “Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight sweet prince / And flights of Angels sing thee to
William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, is about one man’s internal struggle over his job to avenge his father’s wrongful death. Prince Hamlet is tasked with this mission after receiving a message from a ghost of his father stating that Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, wrongfully killed the old King in order to steal his throne and his wife. In this soliloquy, Hamlet is debating with himself on whether or not he should kill his uncle in his moment of confession, for in this day it was believed that because he was in the process of righting his wrongs, he would go to heaven upon his death. In the whole work, this passage functions as a revelation of Hamlet’s inner most
The friendship between Hamlet and Horatio is truehearted, in contrast to the relationship Hamlet shares with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. First of all, Hamlet actually does not treat Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as real friends, but he does trust Horatio very much. When Hamlet falls into a great depression after his father's death and his mother's wedding, Horatio comes back from University of Wintonberg to comfort Hamlet and tells him the appearance of the ghost. Therefore, Horatio is a loyal and reliable friend who genuinely cares Hamlet in his heart and stalwartly warns Hamlet to be careful. Mutually, Hamlet is willing to tell Horatio his mood without any concerns: "Would I had met my dearest foe in heaven or ever I had seen that day, Horatio
William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” is the most infamous tragedy to happen in playwriting. The most important part of Hamlet is how there is a lot of tension between Claudius and Hamlet, and their fight that nearly collapses the entire kingdom. Hamlet has a lot on his plate, from trying to avenge his father’s death to just wanting to die; and because this is a Shakespeare tragedy, the theme of death is evident. In the first act, after much consultation, King Hamlet talks to Prince Hamlet and tells him that his brother, Claudius, has killed him.

By using a variety of literary and rhetorical devices and displaying a pessimistic attitude towards his situation, Hamlet is able to effectively convey his thoughts and emotions to his audience.
