It’s not a rodeo without the cowgirl boots, carnival games, and fried Oreos. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has become an integral part of our family tradition. From the extensively planned events to the organization's generous support for higher education, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the epitome of what makes Texans so great. When I applied for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I was nervous because I knew it was a very competitive applicant pool. But, I was relieved when I discovered that I was selected to receive the metropolitan scholarship. Thanks to the help of my donor Scott Bowen, in memory of Frank L. Tucker, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo I was able to cover most of my tuition expenses at the University of Houston. …show more content…
It is a constant reminder that Rodeo believes in my potential to accomplish my dreams. Due to this scholarship, I have been able to take an active role on campus, while at the same time maintain a high grade point average. Last semester, I was selected as the Public Relations Chair for Bauer Ambassadors. I believed it was Bauer Ambassador’s responsibility to highlight the talent and hard work behind some of its students. I was inspired by the various student stories on campus that go unheard to launch the Humans of Bauer Facebook campaign. Through this project, I redefined the role of the public relations chair and increased our organization's visibility on
Service is simply an act of helpful activity and the transferable skills that are gained from service illustrate the importance of being involved. By volunteering in my community and taking part in organizations that are centered on service, I am able to strengthen my understanding of my surroundings, and I am taught more compassion for others. Being involved presents unlimited opportunities to give back to others, and with the skills instilled by service, I am able to make a difference in the lives around me. Experience gained with service creates characteristics in a person that can shape the direction of my life, and I will value that in the future.
I was awarded the Drexel Liberty Scholarship in 2015, but today, while reflecting on my college career, I am more appreciative of your donation than ever before. The past couple of months have not been the easiest for my family and I, but thanks to your donation, my financial standing at Drexel was not an additional burden. Furthermore, this scholarship has given me the privilege to advanced my education in my dream school and enjoy the perks of being a Drexel student, such as co-op.

I am honored to submit my candidacy for consideration as one of the two recipients of the Phi Theta kappa Gold Scholarship. I believe that my excellent academic record and active involvement in Phi Theta kappa both locally and regionally makes me a good candidate for the scholarship.

When you think of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, bull-riding, BBQ, concerts, carnival rides, deep fried Oreos and more come to mind. One thing the rodeo offers that we often forget? Scholarships.
Scholarships are distributed differently between Division 1 and Division 2 athletics. The NCAA does not appear to be concerned with the roster size of a team when developing the rules governing how scholarships are distributed. A high school athlete’s dream is a full ride to their favored college. However, reality is, the scholarship offered can be far less, dependent upon the sport they play. Football and basketball are the favored sports at the collegiate level based on the NCAA’s rules of distribution.
My name is Destiny Nichelle Blanks and I reside in Pennington, Alabama. I was born in Meridian, Mississippi on January 12, 1995 in Rush Hospital. I am twenty years old, an African American, and I am single. Growing up church is all I knew, I was that little girl my peers used to say, “You be in church Monday through Sunday”, which didn’t offend me at all. I would like to say as far as my religion I am a Baptist and I believe in God. Currently I attend The Alabama State University majoring in Social Work. I do not have a job but I do have work-study here on campus where I do my hours at the Comptroller’s Office. All through life it has been God, family, and education and all these things have motivated me to keep going and it has gotten me
As the 56th Annual Henderson County Livestock Show [HCLS] rolled around the corner this year, I was not expecting to have the honor of becoming
During my time at UC Davis, I have learned to uphold the qualities of leadership, service, and scholarship through all of my campus affiliations. Through my affiliation with Recognizing Illnesses Very Early and Responding (R.I.V.E.R), a public health education promotion organization, I have learned the importance of empathy and respect towards the target population that we work with. Similarly, as a Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program Lead Peer Advisor and as a Chemistry Tutor, these organizations have kept me academically focus. Most importantly, these three qualities of leadership, service, and scholarship resonant with me because these are the three pillars that I have and will continue to display as a member of Prytanean Womens Honors Society.
Savannah Woodall is extremely involved in AEC and College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). She is a CALS Ambassador, which she says allows her to make connections for future career opportunities as well as develop leadership skills and become an effective communicator. One of the best feelings she says, is when students enter the University of Florida and say that they found out about the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences or their major through ambassadors like her. She says it has a truly lasting impact and is where she
The definition of judge is “to form a judgment or opinion of; decide upon critically.” I’ve been judged, you’ve been judged, all of us have been judged and all of us have judged. That person you judged, because they were walking funny, they had surgery on their foot and were told they would never walk again. That boy that stutters, he has abusive parents. That girl that is stuck up, her dad was sent to jail and her mom died.
As a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, I was chosen as a semifinalist (top 20% of all applicants on the nation) for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. For my hard work, academic results, and community involvement, I have been awarded with some scholarships such as: SALAD scholarship (2016), Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar (2016), and Dr. Pepper/Sales Tuition Award (2015). For my academic performance, I achieved the Dean’s List for every term since Fall 2015. As part of a team, I won 1st Place in the “Strategic Analysis and Business Decision Making” category at the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference, celebrated in Atlanta, Georgia. I received the 2015-2016 FCSAA All-Academic Team in Student
"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." - John Dewey. This quote has inspired my decision to transfer to Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. I will forever be grateful to Fairleigh Dickinson University for accepting me and allowing me the opportunity to obtain a scholarship, if it was not for the full ride I would not have been able to attend college. Turns out Fairleigh Dickinson University did not offer me the opportunity to study my intended major, meteorology. In high school, I felt limited because I was in a program that was not suitable to my interests. I feel the same here at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
I need a scholarship from LJMU, because I believe that your course will provide me with the necessary skills and attributes to succeed in law and will improve my skills and knowledge in order to be able to create my own project to develop my society. Also, I want to enhance my presentation skills and improve the way I express my ideas, opinions and communication skills. Moreover, I want to increase my knowledge of global crime, justice and security. And the only way to do so is by talking to other people from different backgrounds, joining a course that would further my knowledge and help me to establish my network, in order to achieve my professional goals, since interacting with people at any level will be beneficial in my short and long
