Analysis:
While reading "The Company of Wolves" by Angela Carter, the presentation of the story is significantly altered from the original. In the original story Little Red Riding Hood is portrayed as innocent and naïve. This is mostly accomplished by how she interacts with the wolf. Whenever she interacts with the wolf in the original she behaves as if she is unaware of how dangerous the wolf is. In Angela Carter's retelling Little Red Riding Hood's innocence and naiveté is stripped away from her. This is seen in a few instances in the text. One being when Little Red Riding Hood accepts the bet for a kiss, which she intends on letting him win. Another big change happens towards the end of the story. Here Little Red Riding Hood first strips herself, then the wolf. This change to her character is important because it helps tell a lot about when the story was written and social movements that happened during that time.
During the 1970's the role of women in society and path that women took to maturing was changing significantly from what it was for a considerable amount of time. Women were beginning to have a stronger influence in the evolution of their relationships and in the way that they acted towards men. I feel that laziness can severely hinder one's ability to succeed, and in the case of the "Three Little Pigs" can lead to death.
