Thorin is still looking for the heart of Arkenstone and the thrush returns with news that Dale is coming with five hundred dwarves. That night, Bilbo decides to venture to the elves and townspeople camps. Before he does that, Bilbo tells Bombur he will be the one to keep watch that night. There, when he reaches the camps, he requests to see the Elvenking and Bard. Bilbo had brought the heart of Arkenstone and tells them to use it to negotiate peace with Thorin. Then, Bilbo returns and finds that Gandalf has return. When he returns, that night Bilbo has his first peaceful sleep in a long time.
Bilbo helps the dwarves get out of jail at night. Bilbo opens the cage and runs to the cave.Bilbo got him down from the tree and then that spent the night in the cave. Bilbo had a dream that he was going to be eaten by the cave. Bilbo was chased by wolves when he was trying to get dwarves out of the tree.
Later, Thorin got trapped by wood-elves and was sent to prison. The rest of the dwarves were also sent to prison later after being trapped by the wood-elves. Since Bilbo had his invisible ring on, the King did not see Bilbo. Bilbo helped the dwarves, including Thorin who was in a cell on the opposite side of the prison, escape from the jail. By doing this, Bilbo was being the head of the group and spying on the King just to figure out how to get the dwarves out of the prison. Thankfully, Bilbo was successful and proved to be a wonderful
Many of us 7th graders think of a hero as something that has super powers. That is not always what a hero is, they could be the protagonist in a book. A hero that means a lot to me is Bilbo. Bilbo is the protagonist in the book "The Hobbit". This book is one of my favorite and I really enjoy reading it. The book is a very challenging but enjoyable at the same time. The hero's journey is the path or route that a main character takes in a book to become a savior or hero at the end of the book.
First, Bilbo is selfless. He shows this to be true during many troubles on this journey. As he travels with twelve dwarves and a wizard, who has now left them, through many lands, their journey brings them to Mirkwood, a very large, dark wood with many dangerous and horrifying creatures. In this forest, the company encounters giant spiders and the dwarves are captured and wrapped in spider silk, while Bilbo hides by using a magical ring that he had found earlier in their travels. He then uses his sword to fight the beasts and save his friends. After this, they notice that Thorin, the king of the dwarves, was missing. They searched for him and the path which they had lost before their quarrel with the spiders. Then, Wood elves with bows and swords surrounded them and captured all but Bilbo, for he had once again used his ring to ‘disappear’. The elves took the dwarves to their palace and locked them away in the king’s dungeon, where Thorin was also.
The sense of danger increases and, once again, Bilbo thinks of home. Gandalf warns them that they are at the edge of the Wild and that they can stay with his friend Elrond in Rivendell. That is just the second way that steps outside of his comfort zone.
Bilbo’s story is a story of a hero’s journey. From his origins we do not see that Bilbo likes to go on adventures. However, his mother’s side of the family got the best of him and he does decide to go on the adventure. We will look at his call to adventure and why he decided to go on the trip. Next, we will look at Bilbo and the weapons and supernatural help he used. The final aspect we’ll look at is Bilbo’s trials and transformations and goals during Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
Every hero is alike, whether he/she is more dominant or vulnerable, courageous or frightful, comprehensive or imperfect than the other. They all follow a series of steps; this denominated the “Hero’s Journey.” Each stage of the hero’s journey is unique, as taking one step out will ruin the whole cycle. The Hobbit’s hero is a fellow by the name of Bilbo. Bilbo used to be an ordinary hobbit who lives in a hobbit hole, but after going on an adventure with the dwarves and Gandalf brought out the adventurous side in him. Stage 6, tests, allies, and enemies, is an indispensable part of the hero’s journey. Essentially the tests, Bilbo encounters lots of tests that make him a great hero. There are three tests Bilbo faces that change him from a little burglar to a brave hero. When he has a riddle battle with Gollum, the escaping of the giant spiders, and last but not the least, evading the wood elves and the Elvenking. These tests make the dwarves and Gandalf realize that Bilbo is no ordinary Hobbit. Significantly this is the most vital part of the hero’s journey.
The story starts from the side of Mr. Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo starts as a nervous & annoyed host. He is hobbit, & his folk are reserved, but kind & carefree. Hobbits love to accommodate company when the time arrives, but this night Bilbo was in a ruck. Spontaneously, 13 dwarves & Gandalf tediously trickled through the door in groups & demanded dinner. Bilbo was not expecting these unknown & unplanned visitors, especially the grand total of 14! They ate & sang all night, while little time was devoted to business, which was planned that night. Bilbo was exhausted, unpleased, & unaffiliated with the pressing event they gathered to discuss. He was only aware that Gandalf selected him to be the Burglar of the party, which just so happened to be a vast journey across Middle-Earth. Unbeknownst to anyone, this was the start of a haunting tale, which Bilbo would never overlook. The first prominent issue Bilbo had to resolve the trolls. The group utilized this to test Bilbo’s strength, courage, brains, & stealth. Throughout the story, Bilbo continues to earn his spot among the dwarves, while the party is continually slammed with additional problems, however, everyday & every challenge reveals more of the nature of the dwarves & of Bilbo. With his role concluded & the Battle of Five Armies won, the yearning for home was too much to bear. Bilbo decided to travel home & achieve his part in the adventure of a lifetime. Each dwarf had grown quite fond of Bilbo, for the journey wouldn’t have been a success without their Burglar. The travel home was bittersweet & was a wonderful memoir of his quest. Gandalf accompanied him all the way to his Hobbit Hole on the Hill in Bag-End. Can we label Bilbo a hero? If so, what kind of hero is he? Is he a hero in history or in the eyes of the dwarves? Was Bilbo a savior for the descendants to come or the
What drives people to undertake a mission is pride. I think this because you always want to be better than another person. Whether its for a girl, or boy, or if you want just self-a-steam. Sometimes (Like Bilbo) you just got to do something because it is the right thing. And other times you might want to undertake a mission because you want to help someone. (Also like Bilbo). Something that Bilbo did to help the dwarfs is to help get back to there homeland. They had a few bumps in the road (Like the "Bad Guys") They had to fight them to get to their destination.
The day grew lighter and warmer as they strolled along the forest path. Bilbo could remember a year all the trouble they had going through mirkwood the first time. It was much easier this time, as Gandalf was there, and they knew how dangerous it would be to stray from the path. They were almost halfway to beorn's house, and bilbo was very anxious for them to arrive. They were carrying much lighter packs, as the gold and supplies were carried by the ponies. Bilbo felt almost bored, because nothing had happened on their journey back, and he was feeling a little homesick. He wondered what was happening at his hobbit-hole back home. He remembered his crisply made bed with soft cushions and thick blankets. He also thought of his empty cupboards, and began drawing up a list of things he would need for meals. Flour, eggs, butter, spices… hmm. All his meat was surely spoiled, if there was any left. He didn’t remember.
Throughout chapter five, Bilbo finds himself gaining more bravery, but also more self-confidence. Once Bilbo opened his eyes in the dark cave he "could not think what to do; nor could he think what had happened; or why he had been left behind' or why, if he had been left behind, the goblins had not caught him" (26). Bilbo gets the confidence to get up and start moving around even though it's basically pitch black. While making his way through, Bilbo "crawled along for a good way, till suddenly his hand met what felt like a tiny ring of cold metal lying on the floor of the tunnel" (26). The tiny cold ring is what started his encounter with Gollum, and it was a "turning point in his career, but he did not know it" (26).
Near the middle of the book, Bilbo sleeps soundly after he is brought to the nest of the great eagles and has food to eat. Upon waking up, Bilbo “[jumps] up to look at the time and [goes] to put his kettle on… And after that he [has] to get ready for a fresh start” (123). This signifies that Bilbo is acclimating to the journey. Although he indicates that he knows that he is not home, he takes the correct step in preparing for a new part of the journey.
When Bilbo Baggins faces conflicts, he pretends to act scared and surprised. First of all, when
Thorin, who is one of the dwarves, gets interrogated by the elven king. He does not say anything and waits for his rescue. After a long wait, Bilbo locates and helps them escape their cells. Which resulted to Bilbo having to think of a plan to escape by himself.
Soon later in the book Bilbo starts to do thing to the attacking for, as it chapters progress in the book, that is after the group escape from the goblins, Bilbo get knock in the head while he was being carried in the getaway thus leaving him alone in the dark. As he wake up alone trying to look for an escape route him comes across a ring and keeps it; soon after he is found by gollum, and they booth play a game of riddles, as bilbo try his hard to not lose to gollum so he won't get eaten. Gollum trys to cheat his way in by looking for the ring, soon after he discovers it's been
