How would you show you deserved power? How would you keep that power? In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, a character by the name of Napoleon obtains and keeps power. He would lie to the other animals, scare them, and manipulate the animals. One way Napoleon obtained and kept his power is by lying to the other animals. He changes the past and tells the other animals that their once fellow "comrade" Snowball had been with the enemy Jones the entire time. Squealer, who was Napoleon's right-hand man, would convince the other animals that Snowball was with Jones and tried to help them be defeated come the Battle of the Cowshed. Napoleon could read while the other animals couldn't so what he was reading he could read wrong. Another way
The animals want to escape humans, but what happens when one of their own turns on them? The story Animal Farm by George Orwell, Is about the animals on Mr. Jones's Manor Farm. The Oldest pig is Old Major, and he describes a dream he had. His dream was of the animals rebelling against the humans. A few days later, Old major dies in his sleep and Two new pigs take power, Snowball and Napoleon. Then make the rules of Animalism called the seven amendments. Napoleon wants to be in full control, so he uses guard dogs he raised to banish Snowball and then lies and says Snowball is a “bad guy”. Napoleon continues to change things until he is the unquestioned ruler of the farm. The theme corruption can change people. The story shows this through Napoleon's dialogue, actions, and appearance.
Two years later Napoleon conquered Pilkington and Fredrick’s farm. The humans on the farms were treated like the animals and starving to death. The animals that were working on the farm have left because they no longer wanted to live under Napoleon’s rule, or died from starvation and cruelty. Napoleon is mad because the animals are gone, the humans are dying and no work is getting done on the farm. Since no one was working and Napoleon was starving he ordered the dogs to kill Squealer for food. Napoleon had turned to cannibalism.
Firstly, Napoleon uses manipulation to generate a cult of personality in the Animal Farm. Napoleon directly shows how he manipulated the animals as he believed “...[weaker] animals on Animal Farm did more work and [would] receive less food than any animals in the country” (92).Napoleon shows how he only cares about himself as he uses the animals. He would make the animals do labour to support himself and to be powerful. The animals would agree to everything that he said because they believed that Napoleon wanted the best for them. Napoleon made the animals believe that they were in better conditions even though “starvation seemed to stare them in the face.” (50). He did a great job to hid the reality from the animals. His thoughts and
Napoleon uses propaganda to peruse himself as a good person, who does no wrong. Squealer tricks the animals saying, “Do not image, comrades, that leadership is pleasure “(55) to help Napoleon. Soon after Napoleon is "elected unanimously” (116) as the president in the republic, he blames Snowball for “overthrow[ing] the windmill” (70) and “told the animals that the windmill was his idea” (57). When the animals see, Boxer be taken off by “Horse Slaughter” (124) Napoleon tries to tell them that the they haven’t repainted the side to say, “the veterinary surgeon” (124), but it really says “the knacker” (125). As propaganda helps Napoleon gain power so does changing the commandments.
In Animal Farm the power of language is displayed. The pigs use language to manipulate other animals on the farm. Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer both have different ways of using language to convince the other animals what they say is right. “The animals could not make up their minds which was right indeed, they always found themselves in agreement with the one who was speaking at the moment” (66). Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer were all successful at manipulating the animals.
When Snowball is chased away from the farm by the dogs Squealer has to speak to the animals. Squealer tells the animals that they have made the right decision on not following snowball. Squealer also said every animal fought bravely at the Battle of Cowshed but he said Snowball exaggerated. After Squealer finished talking to the animals, the animals discovered the windmill was destroyed. When the animals found out the windmill was destroyed Squealer blamed Snowball right away they also said Snowball took the milk-pails, corn, and broke the eggs. As the farm started falling apart the animals thought Snowball was an invisible influence and a secret agent for Jones because of what the animals thought he was doing. Squealer reminds the animals of Napoleon's huge role in the Battle Of Cowshed. Squealer told everything to the animals so graphically they remembered it in seconds. The animals start to benefit towards propaganda because it shows that the animals are benefiting from Napoleon making the water taste fantastic. Napoleon remains in power by using propaganda to use other animals to benefit himself and by blaming things on Snowball so he looks like a more fit superior
After the expulsion of Farmer Jones and Snowball, it was only expected that Napoleon would take leadership of Animal Farm and, of course, continue practicing the principles of animalism. Animalism is the belief that all animals are created equal and should be allowed and, in fact, encouraged, to speak their mind and never lie or manipulate other animals, or other comrades. However, as Napoleon's reign of dictatorship progresses, we, as the readers, see him becoming more of a tyrant than a trustworthy ruler. Napoleon has truly started developing the characteristics of a human and acting more like Mr. Jones. We see him acting like a human through his use of brutal force, fear, and slander to keep the animals in line and working to the bone; he also uses these characteristics to benefit himself.
In reality, we have some incredible pioneers who help and think about the general population and form the nation into a superior state monetarily and socially. That isn't generally the case a few people are malicious. These individuals want everything for themselves and don't want others to succeed. Napoleons mentality was degenerate before he had power. power did not control him, he treated others severely.
Significance Change of Napoleon Power can change who people are and affect the person who is truly inside of them. Napoleon was every animal’s friend but the second he wanted all the power to himself to take control of animal Farm he was changed forever. He became dark and became an evil person. Frist he slaughtered many animals for just having dreams about snowball. Then he moved into the farm house and made pigs better than the other farm animals and treated them unfairly.
In the book “Animal Farm” one of the characters that caught my eye the most was Napoleon . Napoleon caught my eye because he was a power hungry , greedy , and corrupted (a bad leader ). First , Napoleon was a power hungry pig in the book “animal farm” because he changed who he was and how he acted to maintain his power .
By running Snowball off of the farm, Napoleon takes charge and makes his own rules and runs the farm the way he wants to and doesn’t share any of his power because he is the head of every single committee. When any of the animals tried questioning Napoleons ideas or if they lied to him, he would kill them. Napoleon also got his way by consistently changing the commandments so they could suit him.
Life under the rule of a dictator People like to rule their own empire in different ways. Some people, like our own President Barack Obama, chooses to rule using democracy, while other leaders, like Kim Jong-Un, prefers to use dictatorship. In Animal Farm, Napoleon chooses to rule as a dictator. He fights against his opponent, Snowball for control of the farm. Napoleon is able to gain and stay in power by overthrowing his competitor, changing rules to fill his satisfaction, and obtaining strong military control.
Throughout your life, have you ever heard of a leader doing awful things to the people and citizens of his/her country? Animal Farm by George Orwell proves that having absolute power will always corrupt a leader, as shown by the character Napoleon. Napoleon, the main leader and dictator in Animal Farm never really followed the true laws and rules of Animalism. Although in the beginning of the story, he is introduced as a keen boar, with only the interest in following out the last wishes of the wise boar Old Major, we soon see that he believes the pigs are better than all the other animals. An example of this is when the cows are milked for the first time.
Napoleon ,Hitler ,Stalin all dictators.Napoleon Both the pig and human were ruthless. But he is shown as a tyrant also known as stalin. He gained power through, propaganda, manipulation and fear. Napoleon. In Orwells writing Napoleon is portrayed as a Berkshire boar who always seems to get his way. He is not really a talker and who uses sneaky plans to get his way. This is mirrored by Joseph Stalin.
Napoleon was a powerful duo with Snowball. However, he used his power to manipulate his fellow animals to his own advantage. Napoleon uses his power and his nine vicious dogs forcing the animals to work harder. “ You wouldn't want Jones to come back “. Napoleon’s cuts rations and make the animals not feels so bad because none of the animals want jones to come back.
