Richard Rodriguez writes in his essay, “The Lonely, Good Company of Books,” how he once struggled with the concept of being “educated” while studying in school (191). It is true that society has developed the idea that to be educated means to be successful in life, but is this really true? Education is certainly a contributing factor to one’s future, however, what exactly does it mean to be “educated” in today’s world? A lot of people think education is just something you get in school, but in reality education comes from different places and people not just school and teachers. In general there are two types of learners with different traits completely different viewpoints on learning. There are individuals with a growth mindset and individuals with a fixed mindset. A person who contains a fixed mindset believes that they have limitations in learning and completely unacknowledged their weaknesses. While the growth learners believe their learning ability is unlimited and they can improve their weak areas.
