How Does Walmart Affect America

The term “Big Business” immediately draws a negative connotation for many people. Furthermore, it appears that over the past decades globalized businesses have been found guilty of corruption, tax evasion, child labor, and harsh working conditions. The BGS’s interactions with Wal-Mart have helped the conglomerate become the largest retailer in the world (Bethel University, 2017). Moreover, now it is one of the leading, cutting edge, and most prosperous businesses in American history. Wal-Mart is a “Big Business” and they have held this title for many years. That is not to say they present a negative connotation to most Americans. Quite the contrary, Wal-Mart is a global leader in offering low cost merchandise, a variety of items to choose from, a clean environment in which to shop. Additionally, they are one the largest employers in America, they are still a private corporation, whom stocks rank first and second place. They promote within and they offer training and advancement for their associates (Fishman, 2006).
Wal-Mart’s net effect on society as a whole in the United States has had a positive influence. However, Wal-Mart’s agreement with China has increased the amount of merchandise being shipped to America. There are numerous areas that stand out as significant positive effects. When Wal-Mart decided to eliminate the cardboard box around deodorant, they may not have realized the positive impact that would have around the world. The manufacturers saved money by eliminating the boxes, the shipping costs were lowered, and the profits were a win-win for everyone. Wal-Mart discounted the deodorants; the manufacturers saved from the packing materials, the consumers enjoyed the lower prices, and globally, the number of trees that were saved by making such a small change in packaging was astronomical (Fishman,
