How Has Society Changed During The 1920's

The 1920s were an age of dramatic social and political changes. The nation's wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, this economic growth swept along many Americans into a wealthy but also a unfamiliar spot this left some Americans uncomfortable with the new changes. Most Americans brought more conflict then celebration in the 1920s. However a small portion of people in the big cities were roaring about these new changes. People from coast to coast bought the same goods, listened to the same music, danced the same dances, and also had some experience with each other slang.

As a nation coming out of a devastating war, America faced many changes in the 1920s. It was a decade of growth and improvements. As immigrants fled from Europe, the economy improved, and new machines offered convenience and luxury from the kitchen to the streets. However, with all change comes opposition. The 1920s revealed a conflict between traditional America and the new attitude and lifestyle through the changing role of women, continued dominance of Christian values, and racism.

The 1920s was a time of prosperity and new ideas that challenged the social norm and began the movement into modernism that we know of today. The economy was still coming off of the First World War and tax policies were creating an economic boom with the increase of discretionary income. The United States was in a scary position on what to do after coming home from such a brutal war that was going to end all wars. The young generation brought out the best in people and challenged the intellect of many bright minds that had the solid traditionalist views with the new fast paced modernistic thoughts. The 1920s were a time of growth and led the United States and the modern views came quick and made a lasting impact.

The Roaring Twenties brought many cultural changes to the United States and Europe, which have had many lasting effects. The roles of women changed tremendously and alcohol became banned, but people found many loopholes, also many new inventions and ways of life came about.

The rapid changes in America throughout the 1920s were defined by a multitude of events, people, and advancements. An increase in immigration brought new values and customs to the United States, as there were people coming from all over the world. New lines of work, such as big bureaucratic agencies, changed the workplace, creating an impersonal work culture. Mass media also affected the changes in the 1920s because movies, television, radios, and newspapers allowed for celebrities and heroes to gain success. These celebrities and heroes affected the lives of Americans and made major impacts of American society and culture. They gave Americans hope for their future successes and showed them that anyone can gain success and fame by working hard.

The 1920s was a decade of exhilarating societal changes and reflective cultural conflicts in the nation. For many Americans, the expansion of cities ignited the ascend of a consumer culture, the upsurge of mass entertainment, changes in the religious and moral climate, the boiling tensions of the black racial movement and the changing role of women in society. The United States was going through a cultural civil war where traditional values conflicted with an era of modernity.

The start of the 1920s introduced a new era. It was an era of rebellion new to the American people. It is characterized by the new and exciting cultural and social changes throughout America. The most notable changes are in the areas of fashion, movies and radio, and in the general life at home.

Around the 1920s, everything was changing-technology and life was advancing.There were automobiles, radio and so much more.

The Roaring Twenties best known for a time of change because of prosperity and the major changes in the society. People were able to afford cars , luxury valuables , host big parties , and be rich. One of the reasons for this change was because of the stock market that led to people becoming rich. Investing in stocks was one of the biggest and brightest thing you could do at that time if you wanted to become rich. Companies and investors would buy the most stocks to make more money than anyone else. On October 24, 1929 the stock market began to crash leading people to sell their stocks which ended up leading to the Great Depression.

The 1920s was a time of change that gave America a fresh, new beginning with excitement surrounding all of the United States. Both women and children rebelled. Once rigidly followed Victorian Era policies and manners disappeared as new ways of living and culture expanded. Inventions of many new electric appliances for the common household made life carefree and brought a different way of thinking (Davidson, Castillo, and Staff 689). There are some key factors during this time.

The 1920s are characterized as a time of peace, affluence, and indulgence. This was post World War I, when government lifted controls over railroads, shipping, and industrial production. Industries that had been preoccupied with producing war supplies were able focus on selling their products to consumers. As a result, the economy boomed in places like America and Europe. Many became richer and with people having more money to spend, many countries saw a period of financial prosperity. The conflict and upheaval of World War I left many countries in a state of shock, and those that fought in the war turned to wild and lavish living to compensate. This was an extreme change in culture that sharply contrasted the conservative and timeworn values

The Roaring Twenties was known to many as an infamous age of sex, lawlessness, and prohibition. The twenties were much more than that actually it was time where the American society had a dramatic shift from its rural roots to the bustling city. American society was changing from the rural farm days. Many people were moving into the city and buying new gadgets that were being invited. Society was turning into a consumer Society this meant that many people across the country were buying the same products as people in different regions of society. Americans doubled their wealth during the twenties which is what led to this consumer society. Society now also was changing a lot for women. Women would now have the right to vote and more sexual

Life was good when soldiers were returning home from war, and they were finally ready to enjoy themselves and let loose. They were welcomed home with booze, flappers, and tons of Jazz. The 1920s were spent celebrating the joys of having families reunited and unfortunately grieving for the ones who were unable to return home. New people emerged and helped mold how fun the 1920s were. Some of the people had a mainly positive effect, but some people had questionable opinions from the public. As fun as the 1920s were, they were put on hold for an event that changed many people's lives forever.
