Softball is known as an all girls sport ,but it hasn’t always been that way. In fact softball used to be played with mostly male players. So how did softball become an all girl sport over the years? This essay will explain how women were forced to play softball over the years.
“The first softball game ever “played” was in 1887 on thanksgiving day at a football game. The football game was between two teams yale and harvard”(Athletic). When yale was announced the winner, a yale supporter (who was actually male) threw a boxing glove at a harvard supporter, the harvard supporter then hit the boxing glove with a stick. The chicago board of trade jokingly called out “play ball”, and that's how softball came to be ,but if it was originally played by men how did it turn into a women's sport. It turns out that

Which means that once baseball got more publicity the men made the women play softball since it was seen as more feminine and since women didn’t have rights they couldn’t say anything about it.This was expected to happen because “A.G. Spalding ( a sporting goods magnate) was determined to turn baseball into an all male sport ever since it was created in 1839 by Abner Doubleday, in Cooperstown,New York” (Is Softball).Women still tried to prove that they could play when “Jackie Mitchell from the Chattanooga Lookouts struck out Babe Ruth.”(Is Softball)This didn't change anything because “in 1952
The women who played in the All-American Girls Baseball League were very heroic and very symbolic but in reality, after the men came back the league fell apart. For example, baseball is not seen like that anymore, not even close. Sure, the whole time period of women working in factories and taking over the men's jobs was very important can be very influential but I don't believe the women who played baseball have effects over the general American society. The whole idea behind all of this is to prove that women are just as capable of doing work, and in this case being "ballplayers" as men are.The society has changed and overtime these effects have slowly decreased to almost nothing, I don't believe that the effect would be the same as from
Throughout the entire world there are many small girls looking to play softball their entire life. Starting out in T-ball, and working their way up until finally every little girls dream, playing College softball. That has been my own personal dream since the very first time I picked up a softball when I was four years old. I am a typical softball player because; my dream has always been to be able to play college softball somewhere. One way I am not a typical softball player is because everyone says all softball players are homosexuals or lesbians. In my case, and most other cases softball players are straight, there are very few lesbian girls on one specific team. Most statistics are biased, and say that men throw harder than women. In some cases, that is very true given the circumstances, that a baseball weighs less than a softball and is significantly smaller than a softball which is approximately the size of a grapefruit. I believe that a woman can outpitch a man, given the right circumstances. Typical softball players are usually said to be either really short and good, or

Softball is a sport filled with sweat, sun, strength, hotdogs, and a lot of yelling. Now this can be said with many sports but the majority of sports in this nature are for male athletes only. Softball is one of the closest thing to an “American” male sport that requires women. The interaction between people during these games, the environmental factors, and other social factors help show the how these men, women, girls and boys all alike have developed to help create this very popular sport. At a collegiate level softball tournament there obviously going to be a lot of female players in early adulthood.
“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game,” said the great Babe Ruth. Most people think softball and baseball are the same sport, but although they are a lot alike they have a lot of differences. Most people think the only difference between softball and baseball is the gender of the player, but it’s not. Though softball is mainly women and baseball is generally men, there is no rule anywhere stating that women can’t play baseball and men can’t play softball. They have so many more differences than people think. Softball and baseball come from the same origin and are based upon the same general ideas. Even though softball and baseball seem similar they are actually different because of the rules, the equipment, and
Mr. Meyerhoff said, “ You really think Americans want to see their girls chewing tobacco and cursing at umpires?” This line reveals that in 1943 girls were expected to act proper. At first, the baseball league for girls seemed like a ridiculous idea to Americans. After a while, people realized that girls could play baseball just as good as any boy. An example of this is when Georgia’s father scoffed at the idea of a girl’s baseball league. Then after he saw Georgia play he changed his mind.
Softball is a sport that is played by females. When softball players play in tournaments they are either timed and those last roughly 71 to 73 minutes a game and if they are not timed then you play the whole seven innings. The bases are 60 feet apart from each other, the pitcher's mound is 43 feet back from the catcher, and the whole field is around 210 feet. It is common that you see girls uniforms to
Baseball is usually played by boys, even though girls have the opportunity to play baseball as well. Many girls just stick to playing softball, but some girls grew up playing baseball with the boys so they just stick to that. In baseball the pitchers deliver the ball in an overhand motion, while softball pitchers deliver the ball with an underhand motion. Baseball pitchers ideally throw the ball much faster and harder than softball pitchers, but many say that a softball is harder to hit than a baseball because softball pitchers have the advantage of throwing a rise ball. The pitcher throws the ball and before it gets to the batter it rises out of control.
Both boys and girls can play either sport, but usually they are aligned by gender. First, we have the size of the ball. As you may see, a softball is way bigger than a baseball. This means that softball players use a bigger, wider glove.
At the 1996 Olympics every softball game was sold out. Many say that softball and baseball are the exactly the same but they are not. Many people go up to girls and say they play like a girl. Many girls should take it a compliment. Furthermore softball very similar but still have their differences. Some include equipment, field setup, and the ball.
Back in middle school, I, unfortunately, tasted the bitter medicine called sexism. I loved baseball, and I felt that I was more than ready to play on the boys Babe Ruth team, as I had played with those same boys in Little League, and if all my teammates were moving up, why couldn’t I? Excited for the upcoming season, my twin brother and I went down to the diamond
Baseball and softball are two demanding sports that require dedication, hard work, and athletic ability. Softball was created to allow women to play a sport similar to baseball, without having to play with men, which decreases the number of injuries of female players. The equipment involved has similarities in design, but some differences were made to fit each sport for their specific needs. The rules for each sport are also very similar with some modifications that were constructed to make both sports unique. The way the two games are played is similar as well, but differences in strategy and how the sports are played also make them different. Many of the differences have been put into place to ensure injuries are reduced and allow for the games to be fairly played.
My mom and I pulled up to the large field as I gazed out of the window of the car. “Please don’t make me go!” I cried to my mom after seeing the young girls warming up by playing catch. Of course she made me, so I dragged my bag through the blaring sun that had heat exaggerated from my black softball pants. The sound of cleats on the gravel coming my way sounded like heavy rain on a roof. There were probably about 30 girls in the small dugout and the old coaches walked in after them. I turned my head to observe the girls there to try out. They were all probably 8 inches taller than me being about 4’10”.How could this be a team for girls 12 and under! I thought. They’re all bigger than my mom!
