Personal Reflection:
Why am I a typical Softball Player?
Throughout the entire world there are many small girls looking to play softball their entire life. Starting out in T-ball, and working their way up until finally every little girls dream, playing College softball. That has been my own personal dream since the very first time I picked up a softball when I was four years old. I am a typical softball player because; my dream has always been to be able to play college softball somewhere. One way I am not a typical softball player is because everyone says all softball players are homosexuals or lesbians. In my case, and most other cases softball players are straight, there are very few lesbian girls on one specific team. Most statistics are biased, and say that men throw harder than women. In some cases, that is very true given the circumstances, that a baseball weighs less than a softball and is significantly smaller than a softball which is approximately the size of a grapefruit. I believe that a woman can outpitch a man, given the right circumstances. Typical softball players are usually said to be either really short and good, or

This is not true. We as softball players work just as hard as any male, if not harder because, when playing we like to look good, on and off the field so why wouldn’t we want to play and practice as hard as we can to benefit in more than one way from it? Many ignorant folks label softball players as lesbians or more simply put Dykes on Spikes. This is not true because there are only a small percentage of lesbians in the softball world. I label myself as a typical softball player because I always wear a bow, the bigger the bow the better. I’m a typical softball player because I work hard and I am dedicated to getting better every single day, and I do not let anyone outwork
Joining the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League brought a new opportunity for females. Many females were filling in masculine jobs
The Women's Sport Softball is known as an all girls sport ,but it hasn’t always been that way. In fact softball used to be played with mostly male players. So how did softball become an all girl sport over the years? This essay will explain how women were forced to play softball over the years. “The first softball game ever “played” was in 1887 on thanksgiving day at a football game.
Have you ever wondered if softball is harder than baseball, or even the other way around? Both softball and baseball are challenging sports. They have the same basics, and some of the same rules. They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is harder than baseball because of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference in pitching.
“PLAY BALL!!” This is a saying that has been used for many years in softball as well as in baseball. Now, those two words will not be heard in the Olympics for at least half a decade. Softball is a big part in the lives of many women and taking it out of the 2012 Olympics is crushing their dreams. The sport should be reinstated in the 2016 Olympics because the sport will die if it is not, it gives young girls a dream, and it will greatly decrease the amount of women participating in the Olympic Games.
think softball as a more of a “tough man” sport. Or a person that plays volleyball,he/she
Most people think that baseball is harder than softball, but studies have shown otherwise. Throughout my life, people have always told me that baseball is more difficult than softball, and of course I believed them, until I did some research. Now, I’m not saying that softball is harder because Jennie Finch(softball player) struck out Albert Pujols(MLB player), or whatever. Baseball is a very difficult sport, don’t get me wrong, but softball is all about speed (Kenteck).
Ever since 1887 when softball first became a sport, individuals compared the two. In the past, baseball was the most watched sport in the United States, which earned baseball the nickname of America's’ Pastime. During that time, individuals did not take women’s athletic abilities seriously, for which no females
There is much other classification of different types of jocks in the world. Another stereotype that focuses on the female athlete is being classified as a lesbian. I have been stereotyped as a lesbian many different times on account of being a softball player. The stereotype is addressed to many female athletes but is strongly associated with
Each of my years playing softball has been a momemtous experience for me. Indeed, I have learned valuable lessons about life. I have not only gained experience on how to approach different life situations, but the game has also provided an insight of me. In other words, softball has impacted my life and will also shape my future. Therfore, this will seek to discuss some of these impacts contributions to my life.
Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform well in that sport.
Believe it or not softball was created by males. People consider it a women’s sport though. Softball was created in 1887 when men joined together in Chicago Farragut baseball club to listen to Harvard vs Yale football game. The inventor of indoor baseball was George Hancock. The reason it was invented it because a Yale supporter threw and boxing glove at a Harvard fan while yell “let’s play ball”. It then became its own sport in 1991. http://softball.isport.com. The first game was played on Thanksgiving. The rules for softball we created in 1889 which was only 2 years after they game was even thought of.
There has always been that stereotype of boys being more athletic than girls. The gender segregation of sports reflects more than just physical differences between men and women. It reflects the way men think about women and sports. When someone throws a baseball in a nonathletic way, a friend would yell, “Stop throwing like a girl!” Being reminded of this
Because it can be played on either a field or an indoor arena, softball games are played year round, and involve teams with players as young as 8 years old and some players over 60 years in age. Softball is sometimes played by co-recreational leagues where both women and men play on the same teams, but the rules are generally modified to reduce physical inequalities between the sexes. Often, companies and organizations form amateur co-ed teams to play for benefits and charity fund raiser events.
Although men and women’s basketball are closer to being equal than softball and baseball, the leagues are still separate. America has a women’s league and a men’s league and never the two shall meet. A woman is not allowed in the NBA since she has the WNBA. The separation is strong, obvious, and seemingly permanent. Like basketball, they created softball to play indoors during the winter. The game earned the name softball and due to its easier properties was often “regarded as baseball’s stepchild” (Ring, p. 60). They passed the game down to women, as it seemed safe enough to limit the risk of injury. And so the separation began.
Another reason, is sport of baseball can be both genders, male and female; the boys take the baseball and girls take the softball. This can be good so there is no harsh arguments for girls not being allowed to play something that throws a downside for them, and also boys don't either too.
