How Is Atticus A Good Role Model

Atticus is a colleague of mine at the school where I work. I know that he would be a spectacular teacher at your school due to his fatherly image, his respect for his peers and the respect that he receives from others. His commitment to equality between blacks and whites make him a valuable contribution to the school community. These character traits create an excellent teacher in the classroom. Knowing Atticus for a long time has benefitted me with knowing his true personality and the events, which Harper Lee wrote about in To Kill A Mockingbird, that affected him (gerund). People say someone’s children are a reflection of their parents. Atticus taught and raised both of his kids with Calpurnia (Atticus’ loyal housekeeper), which shows that he would be an open minded and a laudable educator. I remember the night when Atticus believed that his son, Jem, had killed Bob Ewell. He believed that his son had killed Mr. Ewell and needed to be punished just like everyone else, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart, but I don’t want my boy starting out with something like this over his head… I don’t want him growing up with a whisper about him, I don’t want anybody saying, ‘Jem Finch… his daddy paid a mint to get him out of that” (366). This characteristic of honesty and fatherly image proves to be a qualification for a teacher who would impact and challenge students in school. When he was thinking about what he was going to do with Jem’s situation, he knew that he should not let the fact that it was his son get in the way of the fact that he should be just like everyone else. Atticus a good role model for younger children, but is also a good role model to kids, his peers, and adults in the environment. To see the way that Atticus cares for his family, peers, and friends shows his fatherly image, his commitment to equality for whites and blacks, and the respect he receives from his peers, kids, and the town
