Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930’s in a small town in Alabama called Maycomb. It is there we are introduced to Atticus Finch who is a widower with two children, Jem and Scout. As a father, Atticus does his best to teach his kids the necessities of life; however to some Atticus is not a conventional father due to his full time job that not only causes him to be away from his kids for much of the day leaving Calpurnia to do much of the parenting, but also inadvertently exposes Jem and Scout to danger. I believe Atticus is a good father because he saved scout from a rabid dog. He is providing a good stable foundation for his children, at least he's trying to. He disciplines them and tries to keep them out of trouble.

He raises his children, Jean Louise Finch (Scout) and Jeremy Atticus Finch (Jem) with wide sets of morals, disciplines them, and is a true role model. This proves, even though Atticus knows he’s going to lose, he is still going to give it his all. His children will see this and hopefully they will do the same. Secondly, Atticus is a good father because his kids are well behaved.

While Atticus may make some mistakes as a parent, overall he is an admirable father. This can be seen from the moment he shot the dog, and when he defended a black person in trial.

In the story, Atticus is a lawyer that was defending an African-American man who was accused of raping a white woman. He had two children which took care of by himself, with the help of a female maid in their household. Atticus had to raise the two children without a wife, and also went to work daily to deal with important business. In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is a good parent because he is courageous and a very good role model for his children.

One couldn’t compare Atticus to a super soccer mom, that’d be unfair. Atticus does not go to all of his kid’s events and he probably wouldn’t volunteer to help at bake sale, but the lessons he’s teaching his children are everlasting, and that's what makes Atticus not only a father but a dad.

Atticus has many other quotes to back up how’s he is a good father in the novel he says a quote that stands out the most to me, “ you never understand a person Scout until you walk in their shoes” this really showed that Atticus is a person that knows how the world works, but he doesn’t care how it works he cares how it should work he shows his kids there’s no such thing as color, rich, or poor we’re all the same people just different

The actions he shows tells us that he uses his intelligence to help his children which makes him a great father.
