I am sending this to you, because I go to school myself. I always am so tired throughout the day. I am mostly tired in the morning and late afternoon though. This might be different if school started later. This would allow me to stay up later at night to do homework, and get more sleep to be awake for the next day. I could then pay more attention in class, be more awake all day, and feel better during and after school. If I were to pay attention more in class it would help me get better grades, which would get me into good schools, and eventually a good job. That is one reason why it would be better if school started later. Another would be, if I were to be more awake all day not only would it help me during school, but my activities would
First of all, kids will be more energized and be more academically advanced if school starts are pushed back. According to, “Should School Start Later” “Studies show that well rested teens get better grades, have higher standardized test scores, and miss fewer days of school. They also have a lower risk of being in car accidents and have fewer health problems such as depression, mood changes, and being overweight.” Many schools start before 7:45 a.m. and have tired students not putting forth their best efforts while 40 percent of American High Schools start classes past 8 a.m. The schools with later starts
In a recent survey 97% of students wanted school to start later. Students should be able to go to school later because of many health problems. Teens have bad sleep habits and other after school activities that inhibit them from doing well in schools that start early in the morning. Right now school causes lack of sleep and is one cause in child obesity. Starting school at least an hour later can greatly improve the health of students and how well they can do academically. Schools should start later to accommodate teen sleep patterns.
If we were to start school later, academic GPA’s (grade point averages) would definately increase. Isn’t this what we want in our school? It is proven that the more sleep you get, the more awake and alert you actually are. I interviewed Michael Claffey, a sophomore at Newington High School, he stated “ Goooooud.” Also Jorge Premto a sophomore at Newington High School stated “Yes Michael, yes I do believe school should start at nine o’clock am. This will thus help further my education because I will be well rested.” In all, we need school to start later because it will help us with our education.
It has come to my attention that kids are going to school tired therefore looking like zombies. A good reason for this is that they are waking up so early for school. These reasons listed are why students should start school a little later in the morning. School should start later since students are not getting enough sleep, having health issues, consequently are getting severe and students are being tardy due to lack of sleep.
If we start school later then kids test scores will increase, they wont fall asleep in class and they would get the appropriate amount of sleep. According to upfrontmagazine.com, nNew research suggests that later high school starts have widespread benefits. Sleep experts at the university of Mminnesota studied eight high schools before and after the moved to later start times. They found that the later start time, the better off students were on measures like mental health, car crash rates, attendance, and in some schools, grades and standerized test scores. This is an accurate example because it comes from sleep experts at the university of minnesota that have actually studied this topic. With later starting time you’ll have more time to sleep and will be able to pay attention in class so you can get that good grade.
School should be started later then it is currently starting. Many kids do not get enough sleep, for various reasons. Some students try to stay up all night on their cell phones and other devices. Other’s go to bed around 9:30 to 10:30, but these students still struggle to get up. We could eliminate tired students who crawl from class to class by moving start times back by an hour or two. If schools started at a later time then students could get more sleep, they could feel more energized and ready for school, and it could help improve students grades.
There has always been a controversy as to if the school day should start later on in the morning or not. The University of Minnesota study shows that schools who have already changed the beginning of the school day to later have found that only a third of students actually received eight or more hours of sleep while the students who received less than eight hours reported to have more symptoms of depression, higher counts of caffeine, and substance abuse with alcohol and drugs. In “Should the School Day Start Later?” written by Michael Gonchar, Gonchar writes that, “New evidence suggests that a later start to the school day could have all sorts of benefits…” Some of those benefits could include the decrease of tardiness, increase in attendance, test scores and everyday grades, more positive mental health, and even car crash rates. All in all the research and studies over if the school day should start later has been in discussion for years.
Starting school later is a good idea .It gives both teachers and students time to sleep which is what they need. The reason why they need more time is because kids need nine and a half hours of sleep. With the current school ti kids are having to wake up earlier to where they only get about seven hours.By starting school later and giving kids more sleep it has been shown to increase testscores of the students
Schools should start later because students need more time to rest in the morning. Some reasons also show that it will mess up schedules. With more rest comes more energy and with more energy comes better grades. Studies have shown that schools that start later often have better performing students.
School should start at later times because the extra sleep helps you focus more in school, feel a lot more energized and awake, and you get more time to do stuff in the morning before school.
It would be better if we had a later school start time. Students will have time to focus on school work and sleep and they would be more awake and willing to be at school. Students will do better academically and their grades and health will improve because they are getting enough sleep. Studies show that students who get more sleep
When I went to high school, class would start every day at 7:45 am which would require me to get up at about 6 am every morning. As a result of that, I would go to school feeling restless, exhausted, and I cared more about getting through the day more than actually learning in class. This lead me on to feeling poorly almost every day and made it difficult to balance catching up on sleep and getting my school work done. If you were a teen once you might be familiar with this struggle. Even though this a reality that most teens including myself have faced, it has been discovered that it has more negative effects than you might think. Not everyone would agree, but I believe if school start times were later, it would highly benefit the students academically.
Most students if asked would tell you that they wish school strted later. Many studies have shown that a later start time for school can be quite beneficial for the students. I believe that school should start later For one, if school started later students would be able to get more sleep. At our age sleep is an essential part of our growth and development. Scietist say that teenagers should be getting about 10 hours of sleep per night. More sleep helps the teenage body regenerate and helps the brain develop. Also more sleep will help students stay alert and attentive during class. If students are engaged during class, then obviously they will do better. I have been told that school starts early in order to prepare us to wake up early for our
Thomas Decker once said, “Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” School. There’s a lot of things people can say about it. Mostly they’re arguments about school such as should school have trimester or semesters? Or maybe school should be year round rather than having a summer break. However, out of all those, one in particular caught my eye. Should school start later? Now me being a student myself, this was very enticing. Being able to sleep more and have a full night's rest would be delightful. I, myself, believe that school starting later would be beneficial for school and the kids going to school. It would have its pros and cons, but it would be an overall positive impact to everyone.
School should start no earlier than 9 am and end no later than 3 pm. The idea from the CDC is that if we start school later in the morning that student will improve both physically and academically. Studies show that lack of sleep can lead to obesity, depression, poor motor skills, and just an overall lower quality of life. Getting enough sleep is important for students’ health, safety, and overall performance but early school start times are preventing many students from the sleep they need. If students aren’t getting enough sleep then they are more likely to fall asleep in class and do horribly academically. Of course there are a few cons to all the pros of starting school later such as the expenses to shift the bus schedules, interfering
