As I have learned, becoming a strong and brave person requires perseverance. In The Call of The Wild, Buck had gotten stolen which caused him to get weak without medicine. In comparison, my mom went through stage 1 Breast Cancer, which in the end, she ended up fighting it. While my mom went through cancer and Buck had to carry heavy sleds, they both ended up getting stronger. In life to be successful, when you put your mind to anything, you are able to persevere with what life has thrown at you. Also in life, time is precious and you should never take anything for granted.
In the book The Call of The Wild, after Buck gets taken he has to learn how to become a durable and courageous sled dog to satisfy his owners. As we saw in the book,
According to Akc.com, sled dogs have been used for over 3000 years for delivery and to compete in dog sled races. In the book The Call Of The Wild, the main character, Buck, lives in Santa Clara Valley, CA. Eventually Buck gets kidnapped and is brought up to the Yukon area to be a sled dog. Along the way, Buck has to face many challenges and face the realities of the world. There are many themes in Call Of The Wild by Jack London, but Nature and Perserverence are the most meaningful.
Before entering the wild, Buck lived a comfortable life as a domestic family dog. He ruled over his land and carried a great amount of pride. It
Perseverance changes everyone's lives no matter how big, or how small the change is. Steven King has persevered through his rough times writing his first novel. So has Buck, the main dog in Call of the Wild. He has never given up on what he’s strived for. There are a ton more perseverance examples in life, and books on how someone had a rough time, got through it, and succeed.
In his novel, The Call of the Wild, Jack London wants us to see the step beyond the survival of the fittest to the complete adaptation to and domination of a once unfamiliar and unforgiving environment. Using a third-person, limited omniscient narrator, the cold, icy Yukon wilderness, and a journey from lazy farm life to the deadly work of a sled dog, we see Buck, a Saint Bernard/Scotch Shepherd mix slowly return to his ancestral roots. As Jacqueline Tavernier-Courbin states in her book The Call of the Wild: A Naturalistic Romance, “The book deals less with the concept of evolution than with that of devolution” (Courbin pg 57). London asks us to believe that happily domesticated farm dog, Buck, can not only survive life as a sled dog in the Yukon, but can become completely in tune with his primitive inner self, and ultimately thrive as a leader of a wolf pack.
Moving to a new place and starting something new in life can take perseverance to get used to and adjust. In the story of The Call of the Wild, Buck the dog is kidnapped and sold into a new life where he has to adapt and learn lessons through difficult situations. In contrast to Buck, my mother had to raise her young daughter through poverty and school which took perseverance. While my mother’s challenges weren’t as life threatening or severe, she moved to a new place and had to adapt to her new schooling with dealing with the struggle of raising a child. Like my mother, Buck was put into a new area and new job that he had to adapt to, while dealing with the extra problems such as fighting with dogs and getting new owners. Overall, Buck and my mother both had to persevere through tough times, whether it was getting a degree and taking care of a kid, or
No matter what you’re fighting against, in order to win, you must persevere. In Call of the Wild, Buck must fight against the harsh and snowy climate, and even dogs from his own team. On the other hand, my grandma didn’t let anything get in her way when the doctors discovered she had cancer. Even though my grandma and Buck have lived very different lives, both of them had to persevere through their problems. Everybody will deal with something rough in their life, which is why we must use perseverance to move forward.
Buck is a type of dog that doesn’t give give up, he was taken through some of the worst conditions and yet survived them. He was stolen, he was beaten, he was forced to run the entire distance of the Yukon mountain range. But yet he pushed through clung to life as if it was the only thing left that he had.
First, Buck must adapt to the other dogs’ ways. For instance, when he starts pulling the sled with his teammates he has to figure out what to watch out for. Like when Buck comes up on Sol-Leks’ blind side and Sol-leks swats at him fiercely. Second, Buck has to change how he thinks. For instance, Buck comes up with new strategies for fighting and survival.
Everyone has to go through tough events in their life, but to be successful you have to have to persevere and overcome it. In Call Of The Wild Buck went through a lot of struggle, but he was able to persevere and become a great sled dog. However, my dad also went through a lot with his high school football team also, but they overcame all of it and won the state championship. Although they persevered in different ways they both were able to overcome a struggle and be successful. To persevere you must be able to overcome adversity, and Buck and my Dad both did that.
Part of perseverance is staying alive. Survival of the fittest is the best example of this because when Buck gets kidnapped from his easy life at the estate and then thrown into different environments and situations like becoming part of a dogsled group, he adapts and survives. When Buck first started out, he was just another dog who was near the top of the pack, but was not at the top. A dog named Spitz was at the top, always had been, and it seemed as if he always would be. Spitz despised Buck and vise-versa. They did not get along and disagreed on almost everything. One day; however, Buck and Spitz got into a fight like any other dog. The stakes at which dogs fought were that winner gets to stay alive and the loser dies,
The theme for Jack London’s 1903 novel, “The Call of the Wild” is that only the strong survive the wilderness. The main character or protagonist is a dog named Buck. Buck was a slightly pampered dog living a happy and cozy life with his owners in the state of California but that all changed when he was abducted by two cruel men. After this event, Buck goes through a lot of hardships in his life in the wild. Some examples of the many hardships he goes through is the brutal winters and cold weather, lack of food and clean water, lazy and or callous owners, and untrustworthy or fierce teammates.
First, to get there Buck needs to be an amazing sled dog which he already is which ends up making him leader. For example, learns common extra food rubs, etc,. Since Buck earns francis and perruls respect can equal recognition. Second, other dogs follow Buck’s lead. For instance, Buck protects other dogs from Spitz in a revolt. Since Buck commands other dogs to disobey Spitz. Last, Buck finds love with John Thornton. For Example, Thornton shaking his head, Buck play Bites. Since Buck and Thornton are inseparable. In conclusion, Buck fathers his quest by gaming his master recognition status among his peers, and the love John Thornton
Buck came to mastery of his will to survive he new how to fight he had that in him There were fierce that brought buck to mastery so when he bristled and showed his teeth”. (london 49) This prove that buck was fit to live in the wild. He could hunt and kill when he need to. Also he was a leader he wanted to be a model for the other dogs but if he needed to he would kill them. Lastly, Buck learned through his time in the wild that he needed to be strong and the master. At one point in the novel, Buck mastered Spitz, all the sled dogs to prove that he was the master of everything. Each one of these tasks were not easy for Buck. “Mercy did not exist in the primordial life it was misunderstood for fear and such misunderstanding for fear and such made for death kill or killed eat or be eaten was the law” ( London 77). Buck showed the theme struggle for mastery when he realized he needed to fight to survive and be the leader. He is able to change and accept the hard conditions in the Northland and overcome the obstacles because he is more smarter and has many much more imagination than any of the other
In the beginning of the book, Buck must adapt to the cold and cruelness of his new life in order to survive with very little food and recognition. First, Buck has to adapt to being transported to the North and learn to be a sled dog. For example, when he lived with the judge he slept wherever and whenever he wanted, but now that he is in the North he can only sleep under the snow and for few hours. Since, Buck learns that to live and carry on through his journey he has to make some changes from his old lifestyle. Second, Buck finds food for himself in order to survive and pull the sled longer. For instance, Buck steals food off of the man‘s plate because he is starving. Since, Buck can put his instincts into action, adapt and can be a good sled dog and stay alive. Last, Buck gets little recognition and learns to use his instincts and care for himself. For example, Buck gains confidence in himself to
