Perseverance In The Call Of The Wild

In schools and counties all over, the book The Call of the Wild is being banned from 8th grade curriculum. For reasons such as that the book is based on true events, that the book describes actions of animal abuse that still occur today, and that banning books causes illiteracy and it caused by illiteracy, I do not believe that The Call of the Wild should be taken out of 8th grade curriculum.

The war was terrible, the whole world was destroyed. The last city left divided themselves into five factions to keep the peace. The smart ones are classified Erudite. Amity are always kind, Candor value honesty, Dauntless are brave, and Abnegation are selfless. The system works because everyone knows where they belong; everyone except for Tris. In the novel Divergent, by Veronica Roth, Tris demonstrates perseverance; this is shown through how she is able to step out of her comfort zone, always remains undeterred, and can overcome obstacles.

As human beings evolve from infancy to elderly stages in life, times of struggle and hardship continually challenge their kin and personage; as life tests their mental fortitude and survival dexterity. In essays “My Father’s hands” by author Daisy Hernandez, and “Beginning Dialogues” by author Toi Derricotte, life and its whirl wind of ups and downs are expressed and exemplified. Both authors’ upbringings share various similarities on their evolutionary road trip through life. Struggling with hardship and abuse, how both authors’ dealt with their hardships, and how they ultimately survived/overcame these trying events, show similar correlations.

The Call of the Wild, on the surface, is a story about Buck, a four- year old dog that is part Shepherd and part St. Bernard. More importantly, it is a naturalistic tale about the survival of the fittest in nature. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he is fit and can endure the law of the club, the law of the fang, and the laws of nature.

The call of the wild is about a dog named buck hat goes through many owners and then goes to the wild and joins a wolf pack. The central idea in The Call of The Wild is the way you treat animals can tell about you and your personality.

     The Call of the Wild, by Jack London, is a classic piece of American literature. The novel follows the life of a dog named Buck as his world changes and in turn forces him to become an entirely new dog. Cruel circumstances require Buck to lose his carefree attitude and somewhat peaceful outlook on life. Love then enters his life and causes him to see life through new eyes. In the end, however, he must choose between the master he loves or the wildness he belongs in.

Perseverance is something that everyone experiences in their life. The definition of perseverance is “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.”. Perseverance is a big theme in the story “Into the Wild” by John Krakauer. Chris McCandless had to go through a lot of perseverance to get to Alaska. When Chris first started his adventure he needed to break free from the high life style that he was raised in, also the abuse and lies his father has caused on him and his family.

Jon Krakauer reveals the good in McCandless that is hidden from all his other previous mistakes. Although McCandless struggles with the concept of intimacy, he is gifted in the act of perseverance. Another thing McCandless has learned is survival, as presented with how long he stayed alive with limited resources. McCandless is a hard working individual as Krakauer as stated through the theme of perseverance. McCandless has many travel experiences, he’s traveled across vast parts of America, which is quite challenging especially with the lack of money because the world is a very materialistic place. His adventure through Mexico is another example of his survival skills as he only had very limited amounts of rice as food. Lastly, before he died

In the book A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Salvas home country is in the middle of the civil war and it reaches his village, he must flee and leave his family at only 11 years old. Now he must walk with the other Dinka tribe members through Ethiopia, southern Sudan, and Kenya in search of somewhere safe to stay. They face many hardships such as trying to find food and water to supply a whole tribe everyday. And also walking through the burning hot desert day after day. Perseverance is important in the book because Salva has to keep a open mindset and still stay hopeful through all of the challenges he faces.

Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken recounts Louie Zamperini's incredible life. The novel contains extreme obstacles that Zamperini overcame in his life, in which motifs of survival, resilience, and redemption emerge. Zamperini, a former Olympic athlete, survived a record-breaking forty-seven days at sea and then survived two years in Japanese Prisoner of War camps. Zamperini persisted and never lost faith even when the Bird constantly tormented him till near death. In Unbroken Hillenbrand correctly argues that with perseverance and Christianity one can overcome the most forbidding of obstacles.

Everyone has to go through tough events in their life, but to be successful you have to have to persevere and overcome it. In Call Of The Wild Buck went through a lot of struggle, but he was able to persevere and become a great sled dog. However, my dad also went through a lot with his high school football team also, but they overcame all of it and won the state championship. Although they persevered in different ways they both were able to overcome a struggle and be successful. To persevere you must be able to overcome adversity, and Buck and my Dad both did that.

A major theme in Jack London’s classic, The Call of the Wild, is that adaptability is essential for survival.

​The novel The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout and the short story Wildwood by Junot Diaz are two stories that convey specific examples of how families can be affected through hardships. While one is long and one is very short, there are many similarities between these two stories. The underlying theme in these two stories is that every action has repercussions, some good and some bad. These repercussions end up transforming the characters in both of these stories into different people by the end. As the main character Lola from Wildwood states, “It’s never the changes we want that change everything.” (439).

"Wilderness is a cruel and caring world, where only the strong will prosper." This is the theme of the story The Call of the Wild, written Jack London. This story is filled with the cruel nature of the snow drivers, where Buck a Klondike dog fights for his leadership in the pack. A suburb house dog was kidnapped from his home and shipped across the world to the frosty north where he will fight for his life against the harsh new environment.

This is the scene when Buck was sold as a sled dog by the gardner named Manuel. Manuel sold Buck arbitrarily without permission of his owner. This occurrance is very important, because this is where the story all started and made Buck to go through atavism.
