Alright, fantasy basketball fans, it’s time to dive into some waiver wire action! Each week I’m going to give you all some lower owned players who I believe should be on your rosters. From Zach LaVine to Jae Crowder, there is a ton of guys still out there who can make an impact for you squad.
So, let’s get down to business, here’s my latest waiver wire pickups:
Zach LaVine, Point Guard
LaVine is owned in 62.0 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. LaVine is a raw talent for the Timberwolves who just needs a chance to shine in Minneapolis! This season, he has averaged 13.9 points, 3.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds per contest. As of now, LaVine is averaging just 23.9 minutes per game but is seeing more and more time on the court each week. It also helps that he shoots 87 percent from the charity stripe and 45 percent from the field this season as well. With guys such as Ricky Rubio on this Minnesota team, there’s always a chance of an injury which will insert LaVine directly into the starting five!
Darren Collison, Point Guard
Collison is owned in 46.6 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. With point guards such as Chris Paul injured, we all have to look for a solid option to fill the void for a few games. Collison could very well be the right player for you team! This year, he has averaged 14.6 points, 5.1 assists

Like Collison, Crowder is playing on a young and inexperienced squad with the Boston Celtics. This year, he is averaging 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. Crowder also has grabbed an average of 2.8 steals in his 30.7 minutes per game. Like I previously said, it’s always a plus owning a player who is a starter on a given team and that’s exactly where Crowder is. If you’re in a category based fantasy basketball league his defensive skill set is a great positive, especially since he is the league leader in steals this
"This guy's resilient, he's got a great attitude, great character, he's versatile. He's a guaranteed first-round pick. Thought that all along, but then the injury you thought maybe could be a factor. But the workouts solidified him. The tape, the workouts, the character, he's going in the first round said Mel Kiper.
There are a lot of things to like when it comes to Garcia, including his quick feet and tremendous athleticism. However, he is a work in progress, and needs to cut down on penalties in order to have a big role with the Patriots. Garcia could conceivably beat out players like LaAdrian Waddle and Cameron Fleming for playing time, although his left tackle potential would slot him behind Nate Solder. If the little things are corrected, he could be a third round
The Big 12 rushing leader last season, Smallwood's strong test numbers don't quite translate to the field, but he's a well-rounded back with a solid pass pro and receiving skills. Doug Pederson will find a way to get him in the rotation often next season. --Mark Dulgerian
He’ll probably be All-Star this season and many seasons to come. He can compete with any guard in the league because of his speed and athleticism mainly, but that’s not the only way. He’s had numerous injuries and has fought through each and every one of them. Derrick loves it when people say he can't do this or that, he just loves challenges, that's what pushes him. Third reason is because he doesn’t let his past injuries and the critics get to his head.
Marwin Gonzalez: The switch-hitting 1st baseman for the Astros has been the teams hottest hitter. The multi-talented athlete has played at every position for the Astros except pitcher and catcher. To say he is valuable to the Astros would be an understatement. In 24 games, Gonzalez is batting .266, with 21 RBI's and 9 HR's. Many critics are wondering if he can possibly stay this hot for the remainder of the season, but why not ride out the hot streak while you can. Marwin is only $3000 on Fanduel and $3300 on DK. The 1st base position has a lot of talent, but while his price is so low, he is worth the roster
The Saints currently have Obum Gwacham penciled in as their starting left defensive end in their 4-3 scheme, but New Orleans could definitely use an upgrade. Williams would be a better option than relying on a former sixth-round pick to consistently pressure the quarterback, and he would provide more upside at a premium position.
For starters, nobody should sleep on Jeremy Mincey. He doesn’t get talked about much but he was kind of the unsung hero of the Dallas pass rush last season leading the team in sacks with 6, and QB pressures with 39. He was also named team captain after Justin Durant went on IR. This is a contract year for him and at the age of 31 he won’t see many more. With more help along the defensive line he should get some more favorable match ups and have another nice season.
Surprisingly, it was the Mavericks that met the injured players monetary demands and agreed to a four year, $70 million contract in July. This is a risky move for a player that just suffered such a serious injury, but the Maverick's feel that Matthew's upside and history of toughness makes the deal worth the risk.
He stated off slowly as a freshman, only rushing for 18 yards against Wisconsin in 2014, but he continued to develop. As a sophomore he began the season with seven straight games of 150 yards rushing. Wisconsin as a team only had six games of 150 yards rushing all season. Fournette finished as an All-American last year and projects to be the Heisman favorite this year. Despite just getting out of a walking boot, Fournette will be looking to return to the form that allowed him to do this and this. Hopefully he finds that form after his first game against the
Ricky Rubio vs MIA ($7,700) - Rubio has looked great so far, and nearly had a triple-double his last game. Dragic on the other hand has looked
Early enrollee Cesar Ruiz is in the system early and getting acclimated to the collegiate level. A 2-year starter at IMG, Ruiz faced some of the best competition in the nation. Ruiz can play center or guard, and could contribute similarly to Bredeson last season at the left guard position.
The NBA season is finally back and after a few games under our belts it’s time to start browsing on the waiver wire. Even though the season is young it never hurts to keep tabs on a few key players who could potentially be targeted for you lineup. One player who has quickly gained my attention is Detroit Pistons’ small forward Marcus Morris. There are a plethora of other players who warrant some attention and those are exactly the players we’ll look at right now!
With the major work he put in this offseason, Gordon game is expected to expand on both ends of the floor. Before he was known only as a leaper, today not only is he known as a high flyer, but he has transformed his game to one of the most explosive dynamic scorers in the league. He’s proven he can score consistently from all areas of the court. The most improved aspect of his game has been his three-point shooting, this season he is expected to hit the three at an efficient rate, possibly close to the league average. With his continued development expect to hear his name as it pertains to a possible All-Star
Last season Allen had 35 steals and was selected to the Lone Star Conference Defensive Team, but he’s the guy also who if you don’t know who Draymond green, is the guy who is going to make hustle plays, and do whatever the team needs from him to win games. Overall there are a total of 9 seniors on this year’s squad with the addition of new comers Jevon Thomas a graduate point guard from Seaton hall, Amari Bryant a guard from Dallas Baptist, Trayvond Massenburg a forward from Tennessee Chattanooga, and perimeter shooter, Garret Baggett from Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. This team values having a Close-knit unit with good chemistry and while that is very important to the success for a team on the court, these guys are close off the court as well.
Last season, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1. 6 assists per game. Coach Van Gundy has said that Morris has been impressive this off-season and really showed that he can beat defenders off the dribble. He will be inserted into the Pistons’ starting lineup in 2015-16, so there will be plenty of opportunities for him to get us all fantasy points.
