Trap is a sport that I have been enjoying for over four years. Learning more about it for the purpose of this research paper is something that was enjoyable. This paper will cover the history of the sport, some of the equipment and entry costs involved, and provide some highlights of basic gun safety required for any trap shooter.
Trap shooting began in the U.S. around 1825. Shooters typically used shotguns to fire at targets thrown, and later launched, into the air. The first U.S. recorded trap match was conducted in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1931. These early shooting competitions used live birds for the targets, as had been the history in Europe where the sport originated. America, however, led the way in developing artificial targets for trap competitions. The first targets were glass balls that contained feathers. The greatest trap shooters of the 19th century included Adam Bogardus, Ira Paine and Annie Oakley. In a one-day exhibition, Bogardus broke 5,681 glass balls before missing, and Oakley shot 4,722 of 5,000 glass balls released. In pistol, the first recorded match was in 1860 and it was a duel between two men who shot nine-inch China plates from a distance of 100 feet. The winner broke 11 out of 15 plates. In 1865, “Buffalo Bill” Cody produced shooting pistol exhibitions, which further promoted the sport of shooting throughout the rest of the United States.
Clay targets, sometimes called pigeons, became popular between 1910 and 1915 when skeet shooting
In 1346, the cannon was invented and by 1350 was a common weapon used by armies in Europe (Movement of gunpowder). After seeing the effects of the cannon, it didn't take long for gunpowder to find its way into portable guns. The first single-shot guns, coming onto the scene in the 1360s and versions of it are used today ubiquitously across the
In the hills of southern West Virginia, there lived a man, a man with the name of Fred Jenkins. Legend said he couldn’t miss a shot with a rifle from anywhere, or any distance. Fred had hunted small and big game all his life, he had never missed no matter the conditions. He was just naturally a great shot, and never practiced.
High school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations each year. Do you want your family members to get killed while playing sports? It’s important to know about your safety so that you can stay positive and safe! Playing contact related sports can be dangerous to your health and could effect your whole life. Participating in contact sports can jeopardize a person’s health because of improper sports equipment, long-term effects from playing with injury’s, and sports becoming more violent, and aggressive, and too much contact.
Table 1, provided by ifoplease (2015) gives details of shool shooting with over two deaths occuring in america over the last decade. It helps to put context just how deadly these events can be.
A Rifle could shoot a bullet up to 1,000 yards–and were more accurate. However, until the 1850s it was nearly impossible to use these guns in battle because, since a rifle’s bullet had roughly the same diameter as its barrel, they took too long to load. (Soldiers sometimes had to pound the bullet into the barrel with a mallet.)
At 10:15 Booth slipped into the box and fired his .44 caliber single-shot derringer into the back of Lincoln's head (“Abraham”/history.com). Booth
2) Always keep your finger off of the trigger until ready to shoot. 3) Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. In the article, written by
In the article “Guns and the Role of Protective Parenting”, Chris Sacco explains that there should be more safety laws employed to keep children, and everyone else safe. There are many cases where parents and children are injured and in some cases killed. In the article, Sacco provides solutions as a way to help protect families. Sacco supports that guns are not the problem, but adults can decrease the number of accidents that happen just by being educated and taking precautions.
This is one of the first actions on a firearm that was more than simple hand cannon. The first recorded use of this kind of firearm was in 1364 according to the timeline from PBS history deceives website.
Hours earlier he was a happy 4 year old that loved the Hulk, Iron Man, and all of the Avengers. Now as Bryson Mees-Hernandez approached death with his brain swelling from a bullet hole in his face, his mother assured the boy it was ok to die. Bryson was playing under his grandma's bed and accidentally shot himself with a .22 caliber in the face. Many ways could've saved his life if Bryson’s grandma would have stored the gun in a safe where Bryson couldn't have got ahold of it and accidentally shot himself. About 200 million Americans own guns; about 59.6% more males use guns for suicide than females. The only way to stop that is to build a safe reliable gun room.
The third article I read was “News and Destructive Gun.” It appeared in Republican Banner, August 10, 1842. It was about a gentleman named Dr. Thompson of Smith County Tennessee. Dr. Thompson invented a gun that can fire fifty rounds in less than fifty seconds. He talked about how it has four barrels. That has fifty breach pieces, that are all loaded.
According to NRA Museums, in the article titled “A Brief History of Firearms,” this first firearm was believed to date as far back as the 13th century and was used by the Chinese for signalling and celebration purposes. Around 1350 it is believed that these signaling devices were
Mass shootings are occurring more often now since they get a lot of attention in the media. However, the authors emphasize that gun violence is a public health issues since great numbers of deaths caused by guns are happening constantly by gang violence, suicides, domestic violence, police brutality and mentally ill individuals. The reality is that guns are easily accessible. That is the reason why there is a need for a enforcement and strengthening of policies to reduce trafficking of illegal guns. Although by law, felons and juveniles cannot purchase guns, 5 out of 6 guns involved in crimes are obtained illegally. It is a priority to keep guns out of the wrong hands, especially high-powered assault firearms and high-capacity magazines. Considerable regulations will limit access and promote gun
There is an estimated 32,000 number of deaths each year caused by shootings that weren’t intentional. An example of this is from “Swallowing Stones.” If you shoot your gun up in the air, gravity will force it down and it would have to land somewhere, it can potentially kill someone because
There are four simple rules of gun safety, which if followed scrupullously will virtually guarantee that you will never have a fire accident. These rules are considered as the heart of gun safety and it is imperative that these rules become second nature to you.
