The US bombing Japan in 1945 was not completely justified but in a way it was. The US Did have the point of revenge of pearl harbour, the avengement of American lives and attempt to end world war 2 to make them feel it was justified but on the same not they blew up 2 of Japan's major cities and killed thousands of innocent japanese and attacked a country with no allies. In times of war countries don't alway make the smartest decisions and act according to the situation they're in and do not consider if there justified or not. Making irrational decisions is what leads to war crimes and many will argue against what is a war crime and what is not.
Others argue that the bombing of Hiroshima was uncalled for. They say that it was morally wrong, and that Japan was weakened and not able to win the war anyway. Many may also think that Japan truly wanted peace after what they did. I disagree with these opinions
However, it is difficult to make a case for the ethics in the use of the atomic bombing of Japan. Although it may have been needed to end the war, war, in any manner, is never ethical and all those innocent people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki should not have died.
In my opinion, the dropping of the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki wasn’t justified because many innocent civilians were killed when the Americans were close to defeating the Japanese. Nonetheless, I do acknowledge that others may have a different opinion, because dropping the bomb ended the war and they freed prisoners of war.
People go into war for countless reasons; however, power remains as one of the main factors of war. Wanting to have more power over the world can lead to a global conflict. By the end of the first world war, the Treaty of Versailles kept peace in Europe until Hitler of Germany began violating its contracts. Thus, began World War II that corrected the evil of Hitler with a justifiable cause. Although the second World War brought many casualties, World War II resulted as a justifiable war because it saved nations from German exploitation, began as a last resort after all forms of appeasement failed, and brought the German powers to an unconditional surrender.
Some say the decision was moral and some say it was immoral. The people who think the bombing was immoral was because they think that the atomic bomb is the last thing for destruction on God’s scale. It is immoral to God’s creation of mankind. As the author of Nippon Times (Tokyo) said, a nuclear bomb “strikes at the very basis of moral existence” (Document 4). The author said that it is ethically wrong to bomb innocent humans and destroy mankind. But although the Japanese had to face poor conditions, the American lives were saved by President Truman. The decision was indeed justified on the United States standpoint but unfortunately the decision was immoral on the Japanese
World War II lasted for six years from September,1 1939 to September 2, 1945 and resulted with Japan's surrender but believe it or not many events occurred both good and bad before anyone could make that choice. Before the declaration of this war japan had made an agreement with the U.S in which they gave them a friendship medal signifying peace. Turns out that wasn't the case japan actually backstabbed the U.S and on the morning of December 7th, 1941 the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor destroying nearly 20 American ships and more than 300 airplanes. About 2,403 sailors, soldiers and civilians were killed and about 1,000 people were wounded. After that the U.S could no longer trust Japan for many reasons they decided to fight back with two atomic bombs on Japan. The dropping of these two bombs on that country in my personal opinion is not justified. My reasons are that this was the first time the U.S was going to try these bombs out so in other words this was an experiment in which they had no clue the amount of damage that
Aff: My first point is the events leading up to the bombing and the motives by all parties involved before the atomic bomb was dropped. I bet you are wondering how it is ethically justified to bomb a country? Well maybe if you heard the events leading up to the bombing you would agree. World war 2 started on 1st September 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. (Smith, J 2017, Online) The United States were not even involved until the Japanese Military bombed Pearl Harbour in Hawaii on December 7th 1941. I mean if you think about it, the Japanese brought it on themselves by beginning this feud with the Unites states. This was the date that marked the official entrance of the US into the war. (Atomic Heritage Foundation 2014, online). That is why the atomic bomb started being created in 1941 by Franklin D Roosevelt who funded the project, persuaded by Albert Einstein.( CliffsNotes n.d., online) Also if the Japanese had just surrendered the bomb would not
They shouldn’t have used bombs on Japan because of course those bombs had killed many innocent people that didn’t deserve it. It was cruel to do the same just for revenge. Those bombs that were used on Japan had taken innocent lives of people who lived within the areas that the people
Japan was a very nationalistic country in which the purpose of the civilians was to fight until death for their emperor. This was evident in the fact that they had practiced an extremely nationalistic concept of Bushido. This concept made surrender unacceptable for all Japanese people and they lived to die for the emperor. There nationalism was fueled by the fact that they won 2 large battles (Sino Japanese War and Russo Japanese war) against larger countries. Along with this, the Japanese also had Kamikaze pilots who suicide by deliberately crashing planes into American warship as a tactic of fighting. This extreme nationalism shows that they could not be fought with regular weapons and so posed a threat for the whole world.
On 6 August 1945, a B-29 Superfortress flew over the islands of Japan and unleashed the devastating power of the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Was the United States justified in dropping the bomb? This depends largely on your point of view. I believe that the U.S. was justified in dropping the nuclear bombs for three main reasons. The first was the unprovoked viscous attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor which had taken place three and a half years before Hiroshima was bombed had taken the lives of countless innocent soldiers with innocent civilians, including women, and children also perishing. The United States had not been involved in the war as
On the 6th and 9th of August, 1945, the United States of America dropped the Atomic Bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The use of these bombs brought a quick end to World War 2, yet caused extensive damage to the two Japanese cities. There have often been disputes as to whether the USA was justified in the dropping of the atomic bombs because of the damage they caused, not only to the cities, but to the people of Japan as well. Many people believe that the USA should not have dropped the bombs because of the damage they caused, and they also claim that Japan was already defeated. However, Japan did not surrender, and prolonging the war was not an option for America, as it believed it would cause even more casualties, not only to American troops, but to Japan as well. Thus the USA was justified in dropping the bombs on Japan.
Firstly, the bombings were unjustified because of the locations where the bombs were dropped. Neither cities were military or naval bases. Hiroshima was
“Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan…It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.” (Senate Document No. 148) This speech would echo through history as the moment the United States officially entered the most costly five year period in all of human history. President Roosevelt continued stating multiple islands and American
From the early 1940s, historians have been arguing about Chamberlain's policy of Appeasement. They have divided their views into two camps: some thought appeasement was "cowardly and stupid" as it encouraged Hitler to command more and more every time; other historians completely supported Chamberlain and his pact as it gained time and made a lot of sense at that point.
No, the Nazis slaughtering of millions of people in World War II cannot be justified by cultural relativism. the Nazis had their beliefs but that does not mean they should have enforced their beliefs on others. And punishing those who do not comply with their beliefs was not acceptable. What is viewed as immoral in one culture many be the greatest thing in the eyes of another culture.
