Florida is a magnet for hurricanes, though nothing this big has hit us in a long time. This is the result of the fact that Florida is a palesala and winds from Africa's coasts blows toward Florida.Of all recorded hurricanes to hit the US since hurricane Andrew has been the worst of all. longtime Floridians may debate the question of which was the worst hurricane to hit Florida, most would agree that Andrew is a top contender. Experts are usually able to track storms for days before it hits, making many predictions of its landfall well ahead of the devistation. This storm was different. It intensified so quickly and its path was so unpredictable. South Florida had only about 20 hours before it would hit. Evry one scrambled to prepare for it.
Florida has been the hardest hit area by hurricanes. Florida has had ten worst hurricanes which
On August 24th, 1992 in the state of Florida, complete destruction was the end result of Hurricane Andrew. A Hurricane that began in the Atlantic ocean at 20mph. That is almost twice the strength that normal hurricanes begin at. The peak strength of Hurricane Andrew was so strong that devices were not able to measure the winds. An approximation of the force of the winds was said to be up to 200mph. Andrew destroyed about 28,000 homes, damaged 100,000 homes and left 250,000 people homeless along with 30 billion dollars in damage and almost 30 deaths. Hurricane Andrew did not end its devastation in Florida, soon it went to Louisiana causing more damage. (Fig.1)
Soon the good luck of Key West was about to run out. A hurricane arrived
At some point of our lives we have been asked or have heard the question, what can we not live without?. Many of us will not hesitate to mention family, friends, food, water, and other living essential we find futile to our survival. If we place these living essentials in order of importance some of us may place family over water. If you then think about it, we can live without our family, but we cannot live without water. Water gives us life its in our fruits, foods, and drinks. Without water we would not be alive and healthy for the most part. The importance of water is substantial and California is currently experiencing one of its worst droughts in history. The planet itself is also undergoing global warming, which only contributes to a more severe drought occurring in California. Droughts in California’s history did not have the contributing factor of Global warming diminishing their severity. California’s drought and Global warming share a common link in the factor that would contribute to the severity of the drought we are currently experiencing in California and

Imagine having to go outside every time one needs to use the restroom. There has been a drought going on in California for the past four years. There is a feud for water between farmers, citizens, and the drillers who get drain the water. The drought is a damaging issue that is affecting the lives of many. Therefore, California’s government should pass laws to manage how aquifers are to be properly used.
The state of California remains lost as to what action to take with the drought. What is the proper solution to the current predicament residents of California are in? The answer to that question is an improved form of desalination and mandating the amount of water that farmer’s are available to and what crops they should be limited to. California coastline runs along eight hundred and forty miles of the Pacific Ocean. With this easy access to this water, desalination is the most plausible solution to the lack of water. It is a process in which salt is extracted from ocean water through a process called reverse osmosis. This process is incredibly expensive and power hungry but creating a
Have you thought about the importance of water recently? Water provides many things to people, from green lawns to nutritious food. An event that may have spurred these thoughts is the drought in California. They are struggling because there is simply not enough water in California to go around for all of its uses. Measures have been taken to conserve water, but cutbacks have been made on everything, even the giant industry of California agriculture. More water should be devoted to agricultural uses instead of residential uses in California for the following reasons:
California has just come out of it’s 5th year of drought. In the last 5 years California has had record high temperatures and record low rain and snow. Even though they say the drought is over our groundwater levels are still down because of overpumping. Overpumping has been happening for 50 to 70 years. To me that is a really long time to overuse our water. Groundwater pumping is taking water from the ground. Most of the people using groundwater are farmers so their crops can grow in dry conditions (drought). Groundwater pumping is taking away from future water reserves which is the water we have to use during a drought. If we keep pumping groundwater out of the ground and don’t put it back in to replace it then it is a very bad use of a very valuable resource. California is lucky that state lawmakers are now beginning to try and regulate how groundwater is monitored and managed. The point of doing this is to try to find a better way to use our valuable resource.Fresh water is one of the basic needs of all living things.California needs to limit the amount of groundwater used by recycling wastewater and
Hurricane Andrew is a storm that destroyed South Florida, and the Bahamas, and ripped through Louisiana, costing as much as 26 billion dollars.
This isn’t the first time California have been a drought, so why would this be the last? There is no confirmative explanation for droughts, yet, otherwise California would be prepared and would have done all they can to prevent it. Some believe this drought is caused by global warming, previous politician’s decisions, El Niño, and of course the decisions we made in our everyday life that affects our environment. Even with amount of rain received this year, I do not think California should celebrate yet. California has a history of extended droughts and there is an issue with the overflow of water in the dam.
During a storm, when the wind reaches over 75 miles per hour, tropical cyclones forms over either tropical or subtropical waters. Over the years, there has been over a handful of these hurricanes that have been both costly and deadly. It was between August 24th and the 26th of 1992, when the second costliest hurricane to take place in the United States of America history. The name of that expensive storm is called Hurricane Andrew. Hurricane Andrew affected the areas of the Bahamas, Louisiana, and South Florida.
