Although I am a city girl at heart, I found my niche in agriculture at a very young age, when I was in middle school to be exact. When many students were taking elective courses in band, art, dance, or drama, I chose to enroll in agricultural education courses, which consisted of learning about the industry that feeds, clothes, and fuels us every day, with lessons over pet care and livestock husbandry, to other things such as asexual plant propagation, electrical wiring, and nutrition. These courses sparked my interest in the sixth grade, continuing through middle school, high school, and lasting today into college, where I am currently studying to obtain a degree related to it to establish a successful career in the field upon graduation.
Right now, I am currently finishing my second year of community college at Daytona State College and will be obtaining my Associate of Arts degree upon completion of the semester this May. In the fall, I will be transferring to the University of Florida to get my Bachelor’s degree with Agricultural Communications and Education as my major to pursue a career in agricultural communications in a leadership position upon graduation, with a fair, livestock show, commodity based organization, or state association. Eventually, many years
Coming into high school, I was very involved in an organization called FFA(Future Farmers of America). Freshman year I was a “Greenhand” officer and competed in many different events. That same year I attended a speech contest and qualified for finals. I was also involved in choir for the first three years of my high school career and was able to have the opportunity to go to contest four times, in which each time I was able to pull off a high score. In my near future, I hope to attend Southwestern college and earn my teaching degree in early childhood education.
This year is passing really fast and plans are approaching as I think about my college, major, and how to pursue my career. My plans for the upcoming six months and next year plans is based on my career and major in college. My next six month plans going to be graduating from Harding first and have a diploma degree that I will be able to use to have a job in this summer related to my major. Probably find a summer internship in Minnesota Public Radio or Threesixty Journalism at University of St.Thomas in the communication department. I chose to be intern in these places, because I want to practice communication and Journalism/public relation. Currently, I work
I see myself going in many different directions, but how I get there is pretty clear. I am going to Iowa State University and major in Agricultural Business for the first four years after high school. I plan to maintain my high marks in college as I did in high school. During college I hope to take on internships at businesses that I may have a possible career at. One of my main goals when looking for a career after college is to find a job that is both challenging and allows me to make the biggest impact on agriculture I am capable of. It is important to me to do something that I love because that is how I know I will reach my greatest potential. While I may not know what the future holds for me and my career, I do know that I will be making positive influence on the world of agriculture and the lives around
As of now, I am leaning towards studying and becoming a dental hygienist: we will see as I attend LCC full-time next fall as a studentathlete. I was blessed to be born and raised in beautiful Leelanau County and to be able to live on my grandparent’s homestead. The flat terrain of prickly dead grass combined with myriad
Growing up on a family farm in rural South Dakota, I never considered myself different from any other farm kid. At the age of eight, I joined the local 4-H club. Through my ten years of membership, I have participated in many differing project areas from showing beef calves to visual arts and everything in between. Through my many failures, I learned from my mistakes taking numerous best of show awards at county fair and finding success at state fair. 4-H has also given me the opportunity to become more involved in my community through local, county, and statewide community service projects. 4-H sparked my interest in agriculture.
In order to continue working toward turning my vision into reality, I plan to keep working hard in everything that I do. Pushing myself to limits I’ve never thought of will allow me to reach my goals. I will go to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville
I have shown beef and dairy cattle for 5 years. This is certainly my biggest passion. I love spending my summers traveling with my family and cows to cattle shows across the state. I also mentor young kids in the beef project, and help them get started by supplying them with a cow to show for the following year. I will be serving as the 4H president this upcoming year. I have a very busy life but I always find time for faith in my life. I became a Sunday school this past year after being confirmed. I currently teach pre-school and 3rd graders every Wednesday. After graduating from high school, I plan to attend the UWRF for my undergraduate degree in Pre Veterinary medicine. I than will apply for vet school. I hope to someday become a vet and travel out to large ranches to work on a beef farm as their vet. After traveling for awhile, I would love to come back to my hometown to serve as the local vet. I hope to someday take over the family farm alongside my brothers and keep the family farm in the family name. I hope to continue to grow my own herd of cattle as well and pursue every dream I have in the
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization is one of the best ways that I believe I have taken advantage of education. Because of my involvement in the FFA I have traveled to a lot of different universities and have competed in competitions. The type of competitions I would never involved in are cooperative marketing and tree pruning. By being apart of these teams I have learned more about farming and marketing then I ever thought I would. The biggest learning experience I have had with this organization was when I attended the state conference in Fresno, which is where I learn about the entire agricultural community in California, leadership, and it is also where I had met the national president and secretary of the FFA organization.
My senior year is the grand conclusion to four amazing years of my high school life. My plans are to attend an in-state university to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering and Informational Technologies. Technology has always been an interest of mine ever since I can remember--as a kid I would tear apart computers just to see how they worked. That spark of interest inspired my love for technology and made me want to pursue it as a career.

With the ever-growing population farmers have had to come up with solutions for a very common problem… hunger. Sadly roughly 21,000 die every day of hunger worldwide (globalissues.org). With these shocking statistics farmers have had to put the pedal to the medal to produce food for not just north America but the world. Yet countless people in the United States of America still hold strong opinions on how the agriculture industry is not doing as best as they can be. Yet like most of millennials in America they want to take no responsibility and educate themselves; yet want to put their two cents into every conversation and post of social media. Therefore every student that graduates must be enrolled into an agriculture class at least one time within their four year stay at high school.
Coming from a small farming community and going to school literally in the middle of a cornfield, I have learned the value of a college education. I come from Livingston, a small town in southwest Wisconsin. Growing up on my family farm and from showing pigs, I have learned hard work and what
