I am going to write about my journey to Job Corps. Before I got to this training center, I attended two high schools- Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD and Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013, but later I transferred in the fall of 2014 to Henry A. Wise. I dropped out of high school in 2015, but I do not remember the exact date. I decided to go to Job Corps instead to get a high school diploma and learn a trade since a friend spoke to me about the program.
I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013. I was honestly a bit excited to start high school like most middle schoolers are these days. I started doing okay academically, or at least I

My mind got tired and I did not feel like making the effort so I left school. My parents encouraged me to enroll somewhere else to get an education.
Once I was out of school, I spent my time constantly thinking about things to do. Whether it was watching television or talking on the phone with a friend. I would sometimes Google new information on different subjects I took interest in for what felt like hours. Discovering new kinds of music was another thing I found interesting. I always looked forward to hanging out with friends whenever I got the chance to. One of the other main things I looked forward to doing was to skateboarding. I did not mind skating most of the time because it was fun. With practice, I became a really skilled skater; I could do high flips and quick turns on the board. I do not really have that much fun unless I really enjoy doing something. It was a lot of fun, but after a few months of being home getting a high school diploma became important. I wanted to learn a trade to be able to get a job as well. Finally, I took my friend’s suggestion and enrolled in Job Corps to complete my education.
I had got on-line and found the Job Corps website and called a number I saw there. The person that I talked to about Job Corps on the phone -emailed me some more information I wanted and needed to know. She gave me another phone number to call which an Admissions
My first day being a Freshmen was by far the hardest day of my life. I went to Mississinewa! I didn’t know any of my teachers, and I didn’t have any classes with my friends. I remember having gym class with a lot of boys and I hated it, because it was all juniors and senior boys. At the end of my freshman year I actually ended up moving to Marion High school.
Job Corps is a federal government funded program designed to educate and provide job training for Low income, and/or troubled youth. There are many outstanding qualities the Job Corps program provides, but like all great programs it does have its kinks and corks in addition to its greatness. In this Editorial I will be providing both pros and cons of the Job Corps program experience.
I came to St. Louis job corps in June with goals of getting a high school diploma and doing carpentry. A few people were telling me that I was not going to be able to get the program but I push the issued. My family needed me to experience this so it would give me structure in life and figure out how to be a man. In secondary school all I wanted to do was play games and goofy off and go to the boxing gym and not do my work while every one of my peers advanced on and I didn’t. When I really got selected in this program I was thinking this was a joke or it wasn't for me, before I even gave it a chance yet I began to understand this is my last chance in discovering what it is to be successful in life.
I would like to start off by saying I don’t like Job Corps. The reason I don’t like Job Corps is that some of the staff members are disrespectful. Another reason I don’t like Job Corps is the food. It makes my stomach upset and I have to run to the bathroom a lot. The last reason I don’t like Job Corps for the simple fact some of the rules they make up don’t make no sense.
This summer I will be a CIT (counselor in training) at Camp Cherry Valley that is located on the island of Catalina, right off the coast of Southern California. It's a really nice camp with an incredible staff, and this was one of the first things that I noticed last summer when I got off the boat that takes you from the mainland to the island. The week that I spent at the camp with my troop was as a senior patrol leader. As soon as I got back from camp I knew that I wanted to be part of the same staff as last year. The first step I needed to do to go to Camp Cherry Valley was to submit an application online write about why I believed that I qualified and was capable of doing the job. When they received my application and saw that I had already
When I graduated high school I had no idea what I wanted to do, all I knew is I was done with public school and could live my life as what I thought an adult was. My father and most of my family believed it was important for me to go to college, and get a kick start with my life. Though they weren’t wrong, I had no idea what I wanted to do and no discipline to do my studies to the full extent of my abilities.
My parents used their troubled backgrounds as a way to push me towards academia. “Go to school so you can become a doctor and support us,” my family would pester. I thus considered school a boring platform that people were forced to endure through in order
I chose to further my education. I believe that it is the key to my success, no one can ever take
First at the bus terminal they took two hours just to pick me up from the Springfield terminal. It was freezing cold and it was also snowing outside. Transportation was horrible. Finally we got picked up and arrived at job corps, it was freezing in the dorms, no heat and it was just as cold as outside.
After speaking to my mother about my situation she recommended that I should try going back to job corps and get my high school diploma. I had agreed with my mom’s suggestion and I applied to go to Woodland Job Corps center and about a month later I came here. To be honest when I first got here I didn’t like it at all but after a while I began to like it here. So far I am doing pretty well in the carpentry trade and high school diploma class. I tabed out of the reading test and I have a high score on my math tabe. So far I haven’t gotten one write-up and I have been staying out of
I attended the McKinney Job Corps a mighty long time ago. I remeber being so scared because the girls were aggressive and down right direspectful to the instructors. No matter what your story there is always someone that has been through so much moroe than yourself. I was appreciative to have a roof over my head/food on the table and educators that encouraged me to dream, believe, seek and presevere. The Center Director was compassionate and called me by my name as he walked the halls of McKinney Job Corps. I attended classes, stayed focused, joined the government student group, and read a book every night. I received a scholarship to begin college courses. The rest is history. Look around yourselves. You are exactly where you are because of choices you made. Job Corps is there for you to succeed . It is meant to provide you a place by which you can build and rebuild your own dreams. You can choose to do something good and meaningful with your time in Job Corps or you can be just like the environment you came from. Spoken like a true Atterburian lol. You're probably one of the idiots who are causing trouble in Atterbury OR you are probably new to the game. Open your eyes. This is a center that told us that 85% of Atterbury had aids or hiv. This is also a center where they said, "Bobcats live in the woods" knowing that those "woods" are
Job Corps offers opportunities to receive academic and professional success. Because of this, I have several reasons for enrolling in this program. My first reason is I did not succeed in passing the high school graduation test. Secondly, this is another chance to prove to myself that I can do it. Thirdly, my son needs to know just as much as I do that he should never give up on anything ever in life.
Ever since I can remember I have always been passionate about helping other people, which then sparked my desire to continue my education. As I began to grow older I witnessed my four brothers drop out of high school, and that lead to the expectation
I had dreams and the only way I knew how to live out my dreams was through education. Although I fell into temptation as an adolescent, I never stopped attending school. During the end of my freshman year I found out I was having a baby girl. I knew I had to succeed more than ever, just to prove to her there is a way out of poverty. I had very little to offer her, so I was a single mother on welfare. I had many sleepless nights and moments that I just wanted to give up, but I pulled through and was able to attend East
During childhood, I took enjoyment in reading, school, and the arts. Escaping into books and my schoolwork would be my escape from real life. Since school was the priority in our household, there was little time for extracurricular activities. Similarly, through my high school years, determined to make my mother proud, I pushed myself to succeed. Above all else, college was the goal
