In the beginning of the movie, Sam has a baby girl with a homeless woman, who abandons him and the baby after leaving the hospital. Therefore, Sam is left on his own to raise his daughter Lucy. There was no question about Sam loving his daughter and raising her to the best of his ability, but once she reaches the age of seven, there are assumptions that Lucy has passed him in intelligence and she gets taken away from him. Throughout the rest of the movie, Sam influences many people who doubted him from the start and changes not only his life, but many others. In “I Am Sam”, whenever Sam is out of his comfort zone, or confused, there is a blue tint throughout the scene. For instance, there is a scene where one of Lucy’s friends is over, and there is a blue tint in their house. Although the house should be a normal and comfortable place for Sam, there is someone over who usually isn’t, and he feels out of his element. Jessie Nelson uses this blue tint throughout the movie to convey difficult situations and show the importance of them. Blue wasn’t the only colored that signified something, whereas the director used warm colors to signify good things, or good people. In one of the beginning scenes, Sam asks his neighbor Annie for help with Lucy, the colors used to portray that she was a good person in the movie and his life, were warmer colors such as pinks and …show more content…
For instance, when Lucy paints a picture, and it shows her being the bigger person, as if she feels like she is taking care of him, rather than him taking care of her and being the bigger person/parent. The reason this is so important is because, not only is it signifying what she sees him as, but it is also an important turning point in the movie where Sam begins to be questioned as to whether or not he is capable of taking care of Lucy. When Sam and Lucy are at Big Boy, and the camera angle between the waitress and Sam shows her being above him as well, showing that she has more influence and
In the same paragraph that discusses the grandmother’s outfit, the colors red, blue, purple, and green are introduced. These colors are mentioned for the first time when discussing the grandmother’s clothes and the mother’s kerchief, and they repeated throughout the entire story. A connection can certainly be seen with the grandmother’s blue dress, because when the reader is first introduced to The Misfit, he is wearing blue jeans, and after his sidekicks kill Bailey, they take his shirt embroidered with blue parrots. It may not be easy to pick up on the repetition of these colors, but they are most

The film we watched in class was called Louis Theroux: Extreme Love – Autism. The main point of this film was to show you what it is like for those who live with autism, and the loved ones that have to deal with it. “Autism is a developmental disability” (“Autism – Autism Spectrum Disorders”, 2017). People with autism usually have problems with communication, language, and social skills. The individual from the film that I will be analyzing will be Nicky. Nicky during the time of the film was nineteen years old. His living situation was with his mother. His family was very loving. To prove that when Louis asked Nicky’s mother the question, “would you change Nicky?” Her response was, “No he is special and can-do stuff that my other children can’t” (Louis Theroux: Extreme love – Autism). Now I shall go onto evaluate Nicky from what we have seen in the film.
Men and women are being diagnosed with psychological disorders more and more each day. Ranging from schizophrenia to your more common, anxiety disorders. These disorders have many symptoms that are used to determine an appropriate diagnosis for a patient. However, today’s society has adopted the film industry to illustrate various disorders played by actors and actresses who, in reality, do not have a psychological disorder.
The colors blue and green help create what a character is feeling. This is proven when George Beckwith is telling John Wayne about his change of heart toward the war. The shot shows Beckwith with a blue sky and
F. Scott Fitzgerald is famous for his symbolic use of color to underline his ideas in “The Great Gatsby.” This symbolism is used to portray the influence color has on emotions. White, green, blue, and gold all represent something more than just simply a color.
When he plays with his daughter, he even puts himself in the mind set that he is like a kid. Even other people think he is unable to take care of his daughter due to his mental state, for example, when they were in the court room, the prosecutor was talking to Sam and he told him,’’Mr. Dawson, you have the capacity of a seven-year-old, what makes you think you have the ability to be a father, your background, your IQ…” (I am Sam). This proves that he cannot take care of his daughter, although Sam cares for her but he just cannot take care of her.
The Kite Runner uses blue symbolically to show the guilt that follows the story’s characters. This novel is filled with references to past guilt that people hold onto as they grow up. This is most prominently seen in our main character, Amir, who never learned how to redeem himself for the atrocities he committed in his youth. Leading him to be often haunted by his past mistakes no matter how long ago they were or how far away he gets away. However basically any character that is followed for any length of time can be seen with guilt and blue.
My idea for why blue is mentioned so many times in this scene is because blue represents sadness. There are many despairing things that happen in this scene. The first instance of sadness come from Tom’s upsetting past. He talks about how his parents died leaving him with nothing and how Laurel almost adopted him (Jones, 306). Another sad topic is Polly believing that story of Tom’s past was his farewell to her.
Imbalance to Balance Imagine a life with no social workers. In this theory, would there be social justice? Social workers aim to assist people with the basic needs and values that are needed in life. This goal is fulfilled through the use of social work values. According to the National Association of Social Workers (1996), these ideals consist of “competence, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, service, and social justice.”
The movie, I am Sam, is the portrayal of a mentally retarded single parent struggling to maintain custody of his normal intelligence daughter. Within his circle of acquaintances are four special needs adults who are his close friends and two normal intelligence adults who exhibit disordered behavior. The writers, Kristin Johnson and Jessie Nelson, spent months researching and observing developmentally disabled adults in order to provide an accurate representation of the issues faced by the special needs population.
In The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, colors represent symbols and characters which have a major role in the book. Color changes your perspective on the book and reveals small hints that puzzle the story together. Without color, the book seems as if it's unfinished and left with holes. There are a variety of colors that are important to the book. These colors consist of white, gold, blue and green. The color blue normally can represent a large range of emotions and feelings. These feeling can range from depression, sadness, abuse, royalty, cold, calmness, and many more. Blue tends to symbolize sad moments or bad times in life which relates to Gatsby throughout the book. Furthermore, blue relates to many objects in life, which includes water and the sky which are important and crucial symbols towards the end of the book. Fitzgerald also uses the color blue to express the symbols of foreshadowing, Gatsby’s royalty, which is shown in his house and parties. It also becomes a representation of how Tom acts as a barrier in between Gatsby and Daisy. Tom seems to be the problem with the relationship that Gatsby sees potential with. He later develops an addiction that results in fatal results and the color blue symbolizes his death.
Color blue contributes to a good mood and is associated with the sky and the sea. In the language of colors it is a symbol of trust. It is very popular and willingly used in the interior as it soothes and relaxes. Sometimes only one blue detail can bring much happiness to your
