The reflection film I chose for the school in a multi-cultural society class is Higher Learning. In the film, which setting takes place at a university deals with multiple issues of academics, racism and women’s rights. As the film discusses the views of three different students as they try to find ways of dealing with their freedom of college life, they learn quickly in the beginning college life is not what it assumes be. As the movie learns about all three individuals it is concluded that each one is met with a traumatic experience that will affect their lives forever. While watching the movie, it was interesting to see the impact each individual face even when they do not believe it could ever happen to them. For instance, in the movie, Kristen the sole female that is being followed, enjoying her life as a college students with drinking and partying, but the lifestyle in which she is celebrating tragically ends with her being raped. She comes to terms with the ordeal, but is unable to deal with the outcome of her friends not supporting her of being raped. She soon beings to date people of the same sex as she tries to regain herself. As Kristen is trying to be accepted by society with morals she believes is right, she is also unable to accept her true feelings in what she knows is right to her which is being in love with a woman. The other student is Malik, whom is an athlete in track and struggle with academics. He finds his place in the university by becoming
College comes at you quicker than you could imagine. And with being a junior in high school, college is all you think of. Sometimes the more you think about what you want to do the more stressful it can get. But you have to keep an idea of what career you'll want to pursue. East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, and the University of South Carolina offer many programs that would lead you to want to attend their university.
When choosing a film for this assignment, my original choice was Bend It Like Beckham because I had heard of it and I had a general idea what it was about. I then decided that I wanted to take on a more challenging film, one that I had never heard of, and one that I would really have to study to understand its full meaning. After looking into a few of the listed movies, I ended up choosing Whale Rider, a drama filmed in New Zealand in 2002. After watching the movie two times, I feel that I now understand some of the more drastic cultural and gender based problems that are occurring today.
After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.
become success of a student in his student life to get a better educate. Marita's mom
One interesting fact that I have noticed deals with the movie When a Man Loves a Woman, the meetings the heroine of the movie is saddened by the fact that she is no longer the same person, she was while she was drinking. She is no longer as much fun, or no longed as interesting as she once was. Many of the people at the "real meeting" expressed the same concern, that the fun life is no longer fun, and they are not the same people as they once were.
Dear to whom it may concern, I would love to be in Honors English 2 (10th) and Honors World History (10th) as they are my two favorite subjects and I am the most passionate about them. I am currently in Humanities Academy as a freshman and my goal is to keep up the challenging classes because not only do I love to be challenged, but these subjects make me excited to learn. School comes very easy to me and I love to learn so much, so I know I can handle the tasks thrown my way during these courses. My personal goals I wish to achieve are to keep improving my strengths and making sure I am learning to my fullest abilities. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always said I want to be a famous author when I grow up. Now as I am getting older,
I learned a lot from it I think the movie is helpful. I personally did not know
The movie I chose was Easy A because there are many psychological concepts this movie that relate to real-life events and it covers many theories we learned about in this class. Easy A was released in 2010 and directed by Will Gluck. It’s about a teenage girl named Olive who accidentally admits to her friend Rhi that she was having sexual relations with boys. She felt pressured into lying since her friend had already engaged in sexual acts with her boyfriend. A rumor then spread and many people in the school then ignored Olive because they thought what she did was an immoral act, but the guys started giving her more attention. I feel that this applies to many
Movie shows the betrayal or unfavorable depiction of the sisterhood, an important concept in feminist ideology, emphasizing that women are bound in a communal oneness. The movie
The film pointed out a lot of subject matter that greatly affects our lives and these are as follows being a Good Samaritan, determination in reaching our goals and dreams, expression of once self, making decisions in the path we take, the different perception of different individuals to a certain subject, our judgement in the life of others, the impact of different exercises/evaluation concerning a person’s multiple intelligence to how he copes with life, and so much more. The Good Samaritan in the film was depicted by Leigh Anne. She portrayed that even in her elite kind of living, she still managed to offer a home for a young man who she had not known except for the fact that she was a friend of her son SJ, although she was a
The dreadful “Why this school?” essay. While I could sit here and draft a well-detailed essay on Wiess School’s education and reputation, I feel propelled to talk about the unique factors that Wiess possesses that makes it a perfect school for me.
For this assignment, I chose a modern day film that affected me personally on so many levels. I chose For Colored Girls by Tyler Perry because I could see so much of myself in the characters. The movie is based on Ntozake Shange's play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf." Tyler Perry uses twenty characters to live out the poems in the film. Each deal with pressing issues that affect women of color. I'm sure that many other women of color can relate to many of the issues these women faced in real life. The film personifies the struggles that women particularly black women suffer from including their personal crises', love, infidelity, rape, abortion and more. The film shows just what black women go through in their daily lives yet still stand strong
Higher learning is a movie about 1990’s incoming freshman class at Columbus University. The class is a diverse group of Caucasian, African American, Jewish, and Hispanic people who are all trying to discover what they want and where they fit in at a university that has already categorized them and placed them in boxes based on social background. They must endure in a society full of prejudice, racism, and appropriation of rape cultural while trying to find a sense of belonging. Most of the Caucasians are blinded by the reality of black people because of their Disney World, “we are all one”, lives. Other Caucasians see black people as threats and even band together to form a white supremacy group who target students who are not Caucasian. The African Americans have to deal with prejudice and racist authorities and students in a university and world that doesn’t care to protect them. The Jews and Hispanic face a lesser yet extremely similar reality.
In a way this movie is social commentary, in a world that wants people to believe they can trust everyone the movie shows what it is like when you
Overall I thought this was a really good movie. I thought it taught you a lot about diversity, women’s rights, poverty and peace. The movie was a very touching and inspiring movie; there is also a lot of emotion due to what they had to deal with on an everyday basis. To me the movie and their stories really teach you that you should be aware of your surroundings and to be helpful in your
