Illegal immigration has plagued the United States since immigration laws were created, and has worsened in recent history. Since Ronald Reagan’s Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 provided amnesty for 3 million illegal aliens in exchange for increased border security, millions of people have entered the country illegally. Over the past 30 years, the illegal immigrant population of the country has more than doubled from 5 million in 1986 to over 11.5 million in 2015. It has become one of the most controversial political issues in America. While not every undocumented alien is a bad or dangerous person, illegal immigrants in general are a national security threat, harmful to the economy, and a burden on the social welfare system. The best solution to the illegal alien problem is to secure and enforce the border, purge American territory of every person unlawfully trespassing upon it, and reform the immigration system to make it easier for foreigners to enter the United States legally like people have done for centuries.

Immigration has always been a complex issue in the United States. Previous and current administrations have had great difficulties in setting policies and programs in place to address this problem. During the course of American history, laws were enacted to address such issues. There were numerous legislative milestones in regards to immigration in the United States. In order to understand the current issues regarding immigration, we have to look back at the policies that were in place along with the goals that they intended to serve. In the United States illegal immigration is a major problem. this problem has led to other issues in this country and has existed for decades . Although it is a problem, it is a source of business for farmers in the United States and drug dealers. It is a controversial issue with many opinions on it. There is not one solution to this problem, politicians including the president have proposed various solutions, but are not supported by the general public. In this research paper I will be discussing the various reasons many illegal immigrants are motivated to cross to the U.S illegally.

“The economy consists of the free flow of money, goods and services as well as the production of such goods and services. Illegal immigration has a direct economic impact, though the details are a little more complicated than the storyline of they 're taking our jobs.” (Hirby). In discussions of illegal immigration strictly through only an economic perspective, a controversial issue is whether undocumented immigrants in the United States of America ultimately represent a taxation liability or prosperity. While some argue that undocumented immigrants take more out of government funded programs than they pay to the economic interests of America, specifically they don’t pay taxes that legal American citizens do and essentially are an economic burden. Others contend that undocumented immigrants consistently pay billions in taxes, and contribute much more than they are costing the government.

Immigrants are basic facts of a strong U.S. economy, fulfilling the intrinsic need of the labor force for workers. We as immigrants have more of a tendency of working for our money to survive and to make our children have a better life, in a tough economy and in a country that isn’t even ours. How can immigration and immigrants life overcome? What difference can we do to fix the immigration dilemma occurring in the United States? This are some questions that many people may have asked someday. Immigration is a huge dilemma in the United States and we want to make a difference. This subject relates to me because as my parents, I am also an immigrant. We all want to make a difference in this world but why don’t we start by finding answers to help people who are immigrants? It is estimated that around $94 Billion dollars are spent on deporting immigrants. The government is spending an exorbitant amount of money, instead, that money could be better spent on other purposes, such as health plans for everyone or help the society build more shelters and livings for the amount of homeless that there are. Not only in the United States but in other countries in the world.

Immigration is a major factor that is greatly contributing to the unprecedented demographic changes that are presently occurring in the United States. Limited literature exists concerning the psychosocial and mental health problems experienced by immigrants as a result of immigrating and subsequent adjustments. Undocumented immigrants have no legal rights and are often emotionally, physically, and economically abused. Without the right to vote and stay in the U.S. legally, immigrants have little power to change oppressive social structures. Each year about 2.5 million Illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border, only about 100,000 and less make it through. Illegal immigrants come to America for a better life. They have gradually increased over time since the 1800’s. Illegal immigrants can come from all parts of the world, but most them come from spanish speaking countries (South and Central America). Most Americans believe illegal immigrants are a problem to the U.S.. Also, Illegal immigrants are believed to be bringing crime, but that 's only a small percent of them. One act committed by a criminal cannot be used to judge all virtuous men and women. There are different ways to enter the U.S. illegally, the basic and the only methods are by land, sea, and even air (airplane). The most commonly used method is by land, crossing by land allows the migrator to have a higher chance of succeeding. A high amount of migrants come to America for a better job opportunity and/or escaping criminal activity back in their home country. Although the reason for their arrival is constantly repeated to most Americans, they still don’t understand the situation. Illegal immigrants are stilled leered by many Americans, so deportation becomes a possible solution. In order, for immigrants who come to the United State to work they must have documents in order to prove to their employers they are eligible to work. If they are not able to prove that they are eligible to work in the United States, they must take in a cash only paycheck where they have the possibility of being mistreated as workers and are being paid under federal minimum wage. The major key, in order to work in the United States is to have a Social Security number or have a work visa. If those immigrants have neither of those things they have to find a way to get the documents they need in order to work, even if it means that they have to get illegal and fake documents to provide for their family. Why is illegal immigration often viewed as a threat to the United States rather than being unscrupulous? With over 11.5 million illegal immigrants in the Unites States, opponents of illegal immigration dispute that concept of granting amnesty to these immigrants. These arguments include that certain jobs will be stolen, and an increase in crime rate would develop. Despite the fact that illegal immigration is controversial, recent studies and social trends have shown that granting amnesty to illegal immigrants would be beneficial to the country because illegal immigrants would strengthen our economy, illegal immigrant families wouldn’t be separated while having to live in the shadows, and illegal immigrants do work that Americans don’t want to do.

Immigration has been and continues to be a very recognized and densely debated topic in the United States. In its simplest form, the term immigration is defined by Oxford Dictionaries as the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. For centuries, people from around the world have immigrated to America for many reasons, such as political freedom, religious freedom, refuge and economic opportunity. They leave their countries and travel to America to find opportunities that they were not able to find in their country of origin. A large amount of immigrants residing in the U.S come from Latin American countries. Most immigrants from these countries come to America seeking employment. They want to work to support themselves and their family, whether they are with them in America or remain in their country of origin. Doing so however, is not an easy task due to many social, political and economic barriers. This raises the question of what the major economic hardship that a Latino immigrant would face in the United States may be. It is likely that the prime economic issues an immigrant would face in recent times is finding employment in a labor market that expects educated and skilled individuals as applicants and an economy that is still recovering from the Great Recession.

Immigration has been an ongoing event in America since the start of this country. America used to allow immigrants from all over the world to freely come into the country because back when United States was just starting out there was so much land to settle on. After the civil war happened more laws were starting to pass to regulate the amount of immigrants that would come into the United States. Once World War 1 began immigration slowed down because it was harder to travel out of the country. However, right after it ended immigration became a lot heavier and new laws had to be passed. One of the laws that were passed was called National-Origins Quota System, which basically said that there was a specific quota that needed to be met for each nationality of immigrants to come into the United States. Over the next years immigration slowed down a bit, and then in 1986 congress passed an act called Immigration Reform and Control Act. One of the biggest parts of this act was enforcement to prevent illegal admission into the United States. The act banned hiring and harboring illegal immigrants. However, because of poor enforcement this act did not really succeed. About a decade later they tried to enforce more laws in order to prevent these illegal immigrants from entering the country, the passed a law called Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. In 2012, a recent study found that there were nearly 11 million illegal immigrants in our nation 's border. This has been a recurring problem going on since the late 19th century, when the federal law was passed which prohibited entry of convicts and prostitutes. Although this isn 't the case of everyone crossing our nation 's borders, it is still a national problem. Not allowing more people to infiltrate our country will provide Americans with more jobs, will lower the incarceration rates, and will allow American tax dollars to be spent elsewhere.

People have always migrated to the United States both legally and illegally. The main problem the country has face with immigrants is the amount that trespass the border illegally. The illegal immigrant population keeps growing at an annual average of about 300,000 people(Currie 10). In the recent year of 2014, there were about 11.3 million undocumented people living in the United States(Krogstad). Many have asked what harm they do to both the economy and the American citizen. Although there are many arguments as to how much harm they cause, there are as many arguments stating illegal immigration benefits the United States. Illegal immigration has a positive impact in the United States within the consumers, the working class, and the overall economy.
