As an immigrant middle class student, I did not qualify for a loan to cover a majority of my college expenses. However the expenses for college are over fifty percent of my dad’s income, but the truth of the matter is that he can’t support my education and the rest of the family. He is the only one in my family who brings enough income to support the family and pays for our expenses. The expenses add up and that 6 digit salary quickly fades away. Since I am the first one in my family to attend college in America, we did not know what to expect from this experience and what is the best way to approach it. With my high school sister graduating soon, my dad will have to pay for both of our educations. We will go further into debt, which will force us to halt our education to help feed our family. …show more content…
My Collin college expense for completing all the courses for my transfer degree is roughly around $3500.
This scholarship will definitely give me some relief that my dad might not end up in debt because of my education. I will focus on my education rather than find ways to pay for college. I could find a full-time job, obtain a student loan and scholarships, or ask for help in the
If I am award the funds I plan on using it to help pay for the textbooks I need in different courses. Textbooks can be very expensive, and I have spent on average $900 dollars this year on textbooks. This scholarship would help lift another financial burden off my shoulders. I would also use the funds to help pay back my student loans. My goal is to finish college debt free and this scholarship would help me to achieve that goal. If I am award the scholarship all the funds will be used towards my
I also know every college is expensive and in order to lower the amount of money being paid students get financial aid help. My parents would help me pay for my school. The cost to go to Penn State University to live on campus is estimated to be a total of $34,982. That is a lot of money and I believe the Lenfest Scholarship can help me out a lot each year. Especially right now that my mom is the only one working and my dad isn’t. My dad is not working because he had an accident while working and is consider to have disability. At this moment we don’t know when he will be able to return back to work. If I do receive this scholarship this will encourage me to pursue my dreams in college, my studying and hard work will pay off. I will feel grateful
As Young teenagers become adults and start College, one issue that doesn’t seem as a big deal at the moment for many students are student loans. Young college students who don’t have the money, don’t have enough scholarship money, or family who doesn’t have the money to pay, will apply for student loans each year. They amount the student receives can vary depending on the college and what the student has achieved academically. Though interest rates are low with subsidized being 4.29% and unsubsidized being 5.84% ("Federal Student Aid" Interest rates and Fees), student loans still have a huge effect on college students once they graduate. One college graduate’s story helps explain the struggles for most students:
Every day in the United States thousands of juniors and seniors are applying to colleges all over the country. However, roughly 80% of Americans cannot afford the cost of attending college. Families and their children are paying over-priced college bills years after finishing school, even after scholarships, grants and aid. A college education has become necessary to acquire a decent paying job, yet prices are outrageously high. I will be attending college in two years, but the financial burden that is going to be put on myself and my parents overtime, is a major concern of mine.
Like many undocumented families in the the United States, my family has had our share of financial struggles. My mother is unemployed and raising four kids. My father is the only one who is employed in my family; he works as a construction worker at an annual income of about $26,000 tight budget . Despite the financial challenges that my family and I face, we live comfortably. We may not live in the most luxurious or healthiest place in the world but it is this neighborhood that built my personality and my perspective of the world. The first thing that comes up to mind is,”How am I going to afford a higher education?” I will rely heavily on financial aid and may have to pick up a part time job to cover the rest of tuition cost. I am looking forward to college and will not allow my financial situation stop me in my pursuit of higher education.
With my father being an undocumented worker, I experience innumerable hardships when it comes to paying for my educational expenses. With him working approximately everyday of the year, we don't acquire enough money for our monthly bills; and we will especially not acquire sufficient money to pay for my education. Lately my father has been having a hard time paying our bills, because he is not receiving any help from my mother since she is currently unemployed. Nevertheless, he has always tried to provide everything necessary for me to be successful in life, but even if he tried to gain more money by working extra hours. His employer would still pay him a low wage due to his lack of documentations.
What is your narrowed topic? Middle and working class family’s depend on student loans. Loans are the only way to an education for many families not only here in the USA. Also I find it interesting that most minority families do not understand the cost of education. Student loans are aver political issue and many polices and laws have been put in place for people to have access to education yet the tuition costs are on the rise and wages have not increased.
My parents have quite the history of not getting along financially. After their divorce in 2005, it was almost impossible to come to an agreement on who would pay for necessities. It took a vast amount of time before a stalemate was reached between the two. After settling into a new home, things finally began to cool down, and arrangements were made to alleviate monetary stress. More recently, my step-father has unfortunately lost his job due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey, making it only more challenging to get through financially. Paying for college with the tight funds that my parents have will make my trip to College Station difficult, but indubitably
One financial adversity that my family has faced recently is the household income has drastically decreased because my father has left the house. Due to this current situation it has become even more difficult for my family to be able to assist me with paying for college because we only have my mom’s income now.
A 40 year old man wakes up one morning seeing that his kids are about to start the middle years of schooling. He is concerned about their well-being and their fiances. That man isn’t able to afford everything for his kids like a lot of other parents. Every month he sees another bill he has to pay. Student Loans! He has been paying for his student loans since he graduated nearly 20 years ago. On the outside that man is a happy man, but he is frustrated and angry that he took on such a load. He graduated making not exactly the highest salary, but he feels he shouldn’t have accumulated so much debt. His eyes tears up when he lets down his kids when they want to do something, yet he simply cannot afford it. This problem is far too common for college
This scholarship would make my life a little easier. I am not qualified for a grant. Although, i have a full time job, it is not enough for rent and food. I am also going through a divorce which is making it difficult to be a financially stable. This scholarship would make my dream of teaching a reality. I am ready to work hard getting my degree and showing my family that it is possible to finish college even if one started from the bottom.
College as great as it is, is expensive. It can be a burden just thinking about how to pay off our student loans. Although, one of the greatest ways of relieving this burden is through scholarships! If I were to receive this scholarship, it would help a great deal in relieving some of the financial need for my education. I have several siblings my parents are probably also worrying about too. It takes a lot of money to send four people to college. But with this scholarship, I hope I can alleviate some of the money for my brothers and sister. It would mean a lot to me if could make my parents by not having to worry about me as much. Scholarships like this are stepping stones for students like me trying to get into college. After I am done with college at Mississippi State, I will happily and diligently pursue my passion as a Computer Scientist. If I can receive a scholarship, it can begin the process of paying for the hike over the mountain of a college
One of my difficulties in continuing education is the significantly small financial support I received from my family. I have to struggle with expensive tuition, fees, textbooks and supplies expense, and transportation cost while I am still unemployed. With the expectation of my college education will adequately prepare me to enter the professional work force, I enroll to college, but the drawback of the small financial support from the family hesitated me. Honestly, I have to consider how my position as a student will affect my family situation, while studying in the US.
This is a very sad point for me, in this moment. Being a nontraditional foreign student, I had to spend about one extra year in renewal classes (written English, calculus etc.) for which I have reached the maximum ceiling of financial aid loans. Now I am facing the fact that I need to find the funds to make it to graduation through a private student loan, which is denied to permanent residents like me, unless a citizen co-signs for it. My daughter is not eligible, although being a citizen, because she is in graduate school herself. Many nontraditional students are in my same situation, risking to end on a road or on some fortune job, with no degree and an enormous educational debt to repay. And—this point is just one of the problems of the educational system! (I need to stop here, or I am going to write another essay into the
I have been incredibly blessed to have the parents that I do. They work hard for the money that we have, but I know that I cannot make it through college just on their money, and I would love to graduate as debt-free as I can. Earning this scholarship would be an amazing accomplishment for me because it will help me gain the knowledge I need to change lives.
