The events of September 11, 2001 showed how forms of transportation can be used to cause catastrophic destruction. Not only was this mode of transportation used to kill all of the passengers onboard the aircrafts, but the two planes that hit the World Trade Centers and the plane that hit the Pentagon killed many people inside the buildings. Terrorist attacks via mass transit poses a simpler and greater threat. Millions of people within the U.S. use mass transit every day to save money and time, among other reasons (American Public Transportation Association, n.d.). Unlike airports, where heavy security measures are in place, mass transit sources have very little to no security. Since 9/11 there has been a push for increased intelligence sharing
There have been many turning points in American History; however none have the same effect as September 11, 2001, and many Americans relate the day to the country’s loss of innocence. As a result of 9/11 many American’s lives were affected emotionally, physically, economically, and politically.
The September 11 attacks were set of four terrorist attacks controlled by al-Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group. On September 11, 2001, four aircrafts were hijacked by the terrorists; two of the planes hit Twin towers in New York, third hit the Pentagon and the fourth one crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“9/11 Attacks”). The September 11 attacks had several long-term negative effects that include Social effects, Psychological effects, Physical health effects, Economic effects and many more. But of all those effects, Economic effects were the most suffered ones. The 9/11 attacks triggered the devastation of American economy (Miley). Although it has been 12 years since the episode and America has recovered a lot, American
America has experienced some events that has made an impact on all of our lives. Take the attack on 9/11 for example; terrorists attacked the United States using planes. They hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U.S. military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol. Passengers was the plane fought the terrorists and prevented them from reaching their goal. In all, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks. This attack reminded many people of the attack of Pearl Harbor. Both were very catastrophic events that changed U.S. History and America in a way that makes us realize that we need to be strong.
September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.
Hook: In a mere two hours, America was changed forevermore by an unspeakable act of terror.
Since the events of September 11, 2016, many Americans want to know what the government has done or are doing to make America safer and is it working. After America endured attacks or was involved in war, the government made changes to attempt to make the country safer. Some of the most recent changes involve The Patriot Act and changes to our immigration laws. Before we can look ahead to the present, we need to look into the past to see if our government has learned from past bad practices or if they have indeed helped us become more secure as the United States has had its share of surprise attacks.
After 9/11 occurred the government had been worried about terrorists getting on more planes and killing more Americans, so they had created the Transportation Security Administration. The Transportation Security Administration is a government run security company just for the airports in the USA. They check your pockets, shoes, what’s in your bag, X-Ray your bags for more security so now instead of arriving 15 minutes before your flight, they recommend two hours before your arriving at the airport to take flight.
Not only did 9/11 impact America physically, but it also took a huge toll psychologically. People responded to the terrorist attack with fear and started developing feelings of intolerance for immigrants, specifically immigrants who were or appeared to be from the Middle East. For example, people known as Sikhs, who followed Indian religion are targeted because they wear turbans, which are stereotypically associated with Muslims. Since the fatal attack, hate crimes associated with people of Islamic background have risen in the U.S. Mosques and temples of those who practice Islam as a religion have been targeted. Innocent people who are Arabs or are Muslim, now have to live with the unfair stereotype that says all Muslims/Arabs are terrorists.
I do understand where people could compare those two events by death totals and how they both came out of nowhere but I don think there are exactly the same. 9/11 had much more of an impact on our contry,it hurt us emotionally economically and "physically" but it brought us together and helped us fight for the greater cause,Yellow fever did not do that
The attack of 9/11/2001 shocked the entire United States. The government, President, and every civilian felt the fear from this day, and the vulnerability of this country came quickly and surprisingly evident. With such a disaster occurring in New York City, one of the largest cities in the United States, killing thousands and injuring many more, the United States was under an awakening of an unfortunate and obvious need for increased security in various aspects, specifically the industry of transit.
four airlines and carried out suicide attacks against the United States buildings. 2,996 people were killed and more than 6,000 other were injured. 9/11 was the biggest influence on the United States. The attacks on 9/11 toward the buildings, there has been changes in airports and the immigration system. There has been domestic spying on the citizens of United States, people were changing their trust in the government, and the ongoing wars.
Today is September 11th, 2014. The thirteenth anniversary for one of the most horrific events that have ever happened in United States history. An event that took thousands of lives, and affected the entire United States in some kind of way. Thirteen years ago, not only the United States changed, but the World changed. The global repercussions of 9/11 are still being felt today. The attacks of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. can be described as horrific, shocking, confusing and depressing. Tens of thousands of people witnessed it in person, and millions witnessed it through TV, read it in their newspapers, all who were seeking the reasoning behind this. So what happened? At 8:52 AM, a plane that
George W. Bush, was born July 6, 1946 is an American Politician and businessman who served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009, and the 46th governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. Bush led the United States response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and initiated the Iraq War.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed into the the Twin Towers killing, thousands of people. Each year people reflect back on that day and constantly worry about another attack; people are always intrigued by the stories and documentaries that people hear about on T.V. Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone(dictionary.com). All people can do is to trust in the government to make good decisions to make the U.S safe and secure. The 9/11 attack changed people forever, people lost family members and jobs. “If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate(heavy.com).” 9/11 had a major impact on U.S. society because it engaged the U.S. society
September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
