Impacts of Biotechnology to the Human Race
In the world today, the biotechnological innovations specifically in human cloning have consistently raised many concerns and I believe it has the greatest potential impact on the human race People have held debates on the impacts of cloning with different political, social, environmental and economic perspectives. Cloning involves application of genetic engineering, where exact genetic duplicates are produced from a cell or a living organism (Banerjee, 2005). According to scientists, cloning has the potential ability to shape the human life and eliminating common diseases that affect the human race. Additionally, biotechnology enables the increase in food production, as well as, food quality …show more content…

After production of the first cloned sheep in 1997, religious leaders raised concerns in debates to confirm whether cloning is morally and ethically acceptable to the human race (Stanley, 2000).
Those scientists who exercise genetic engineering in modifying crop species claim that, biotechnology has a positive impact to the human beings, through increasing food production and quality. On the other hand, critics of biotechnology have identified the potential impacts of biotechnology on the environment. According to Fukuyama (2013), some of the impacts include production of potentially harmful products, exploitation of animals and plants that lead to disruption of the biodiversity. In human cloning, scientists fail to respect life of human beings, thus destroying the human natural characteristic of reproducing.
The biotech companies use expensive equipments in research and development of plants and animal species. Biotechnology has contributed to shortages even in the society, where large amounts of money are used in training students to practice genetic engineering in improving the welfare of the society (Banerjee, 2005). Most people today argue that, human cloning is not necessary as it consumes more money as to the normal human reproduction.
In conclusion, human cloning and biotechnology have not satisfied many groups such as societies, governments and the environmentalists. Biotechnology and human cloning have various potential
